NCPreps.com/HS Media Basketball Polls 1-22

Cherokee has blasted your #9 team twice now and has only 3 losses, the same as the team they blasted. Get out to the games and watch some of them before making a ranking that doesn't make sense. WS-P and LCS plays a really tough non conference schedule that warrants some type of respect. I can't speak for anyone , but if most of the teams played their non conference schedule they would be looking at double figure losses right now. Strength of schedule should count for something.

Although I agree Cherokee should obviously be above Hayesville, It's not a ranking, it's a poll voted on by people across the state, so the harsh words for one person I don't think are warranted. Polls have always been skewed by reputation and past success, as well as by local biases of the people who vote. It is what it is, and why they are fun to talk about but should be taken with a grain of salt.

Unreal post! the top 3 boys teams in 1A are charters built on recruited players/transfers and 2 of the teams you mentioned are in the top 3. I should be upset: my Lady Bears are defending champs and are #2 and the team ahead of them they rolled in title game...O well!! It’s a poll..relax

I was just getting ready to post something about that. The two losses MA has is against a very good team. With the way they are performing along with defending state champs I'm not sure how they are not the 1. Even on max preps I think the last I seen they were 3 (?). It's fun to look at this years playoffs will be fun. I love this time of year seeing the projections and the teams in their conference fighting for a playoff spot.

On the 1A girl's side, Mt Airy - Murphy will probably decide things once again. Pamlico being ranked #1 over Mt Airy is laughable imo, the Mt Airy girls are the queens of 1A until proven otherwise.

The Murphy girls should be a clear #2 given what they returned and how close they played the defending 1A champs last season. The Murphy girl's only loss is to a team that would be anyone in 1A (same as Mt Airy's two losses to West Forsyth).

Murphy, EW, Mitchell & MA girls in the West but there could be an outsider; boys LC, WSPA & then it’s a coin flip; but there are a few good boys teams...almost that time!

Why the above person singled out me is totally confusing? There are 9 to 11 voters state-wide week (equally between East and West).

I have voted Lincoln Charter #1 each week. I can’t force others to vote like I do. Each week I put in a lot of hours getting the info on teams to do this.

Are you going to get a ring by finishing #1 in this poll? No, but it is something to give the general public to look at.

How many people in the West know about Research Triangle? By them being listed in this poll people can say hey they may be pretty good in hoops. We may need to watch out for them.

It’s easy to sit behind a keyboard and criticize someone for doing positive things for our state’s athletes.

As for Cherokee, they played Hayesville after the poll was released on Monday. The Braves will move up and Hayesville will fall.

Let’s just enjoy this high school hoops season!

Have not seen them DK but Research Triangle Park, searching their maxpreps, they have faced 1 school with a winning record, that school was 293 in state rankings. They have faced 6 or 7 teams above 500 in maxpreps rankings. Wow! Good luck to them but......

Hopefully reidsville can get some recognition in your poll, currently ranked #13 in maxpreps state 2A rankings prior to a perfect 4-0 week in a solid midstate 2A conference

I don't know what to think about RTP. On the one hand, they are undefeated and have a very good player in Zaire Stukes. On the other hand, their schedule hasn't exactly been Murderer's Row thus far. Although....they do own a win over New Garden. New Garden's a pretty decent team led by two guys that will probably end up playing D-1 ball.

I probably would not favor them over any of the teams listed in honorable mention. However, the only teams I've seen out of that bunch is South Stokes and Mount Airy. Who knows how they would do? It's all about match ups a lot of the time.

One thing RTP does have going for them is they're in the East. I think the East will be considerably weaker than the West.
