Napert out at Smoky Mountain

Not being rude but who in their right mind would be interested in being a coach at SMHS? That program is the laughing stock of the mountains by almost all standards. I've heard there's issue with the powers that be over in Jackson Co. and them not being able to keep their nose out of the football program. Seems like that's been an issue in Jackson Co. for some time now. IMO it doesn't matter who get's the job, SMHS will still be SMHS and be awful at football. Heck, their good at backetball and baseball though bahahaha!
I remember when football used to be important in Jackson county and I remember when franklin used to be the laughing stock, I remember when smoky rarely lost to franklin..now the battle of cowee mt has become known as the blowout of cowee mt and smoky mt has become known as joky mt...the difference in the two programs is night and day...football is king in macon county..fhs has the best staff in the state with several of them being from sylva..they ran one of them outta town and wow what a mistake because that man can flat coach..the smoky job would rank in the bottom 10 worst jobs in wnc this years senior class at smoky dominated youth football and went undefeated in middle school and never had a winning varsity record..on the other hand franklins senior class went winless as 8th graders in middle school but won 43 games 5 playoffs games and 3 conf championships,,,so smoky will keep winning cracker bowls and fhs will keep winning cof championships
The culture over there changed back in the 80's when the McConnell's staged a coup and ran Babe Howell off. HS football in Sylva has never been the same. Taking an existing school and changing their name, colors, and mascot overnight did nothing to build up the school.

If that is the case..........Ask yourself, "did he have any success down east?" Different name, same results?
If you are talking about Chris Brookshire, that would not be the most qualified hire. He is an A plus person, but a C minus coach. Or is it another Brookshire?
I agree with the statement made above, but it might be the best that applied! I remember his head coaching days to well!
I've been blessed to coach with Chris Brookshire and you guys are right. He definitely is an A plus man. However I feel you are wrong about his coaching abilities. Coach Brookshire is a fantastic football coach. In my opinion he is A plus in that category also. His record while at Erwin in my opinion is not an indication of his coaching abilities. Those Erwin teams he had were no where close in talent like what they have had recently. When he went to Virginia he went to a school who hadn't won a game in a couple years. He has been an assistant coach at Western Carolina for the past 3 seasons and I feel like he will do a fantastic job. The Erwin job was also his first head coaching job. I have no doubts he will be very successful with the Smokey program. He will be popular with the kids because he is a great leader with a wonderful attitude, very detailed, and has the work ethic to be very successful. He is a people person also. He has gotten along with everyone I've ever seen him interact with and I've known him going on 8 years now. Chris Brookshire is a home run hire if you ask me. Go Stangs!!
Congratulations to Coach Brookshire and good luck. He is a Tuscola alumni and was an asst on the 2009 team. Hope he goes 10-1 next year 
Highly unlikely. He will get the kids out of the hallways and onto the field but seriously doubt the Stangs will contend for anything conf. wise.
