My realignment proposal

The drive time distance between polk and both community school of davidson and pine lake is right at 2 hours. That would be rough on the other sports especially ones with jv games that play before varsity.
 
I think these games would probably draw a really good gate .
Northwest 1A Conference as it once was minus N. & S Stokes WSP & Bishop
  1. Alleghany
  2. East Surry
  3. East Wilkes
  4. Elkin
  5. Mount Airy
  6. Starmount
Mount Airy's Non-Conference I would like to see.
  1. North Surry - 2A
  2. Thomasville -2A
  3. West Stokes -2A
  4. Surry Central -2A or Wilkes Central
  5. Walkertown -Will move up to 2A

Why not N. & S. Stokes?

Atkins moving up, why wouldn't they be in same conference as Walkertown?
 
N. & S. Stokes , Atkins ,Bishop,Walkertown & WSP in another conference with teams from that area that are 1A & or 2A
 
Those Stokes county teams always has played in the conference, why wouldn't they again. Especially NS?

Do you think NCHSAA cares about your gates?
 
Plus, the state has expressed their desire to eliminate split conferences when at all possible.
 
I have seen a proposal that looks more like mine so we will just have to wait and see I guess.
The schools need good gates not like Atkins and others that bring. 50 to 100 people that includes band and their family

Then simmons 10 & 11 want work as well as mine.1A 11 is 5 1A 5 2A
1A 10 gets the 1A schools from 11

That would put N Stokes in a 1A/2A that would most likely include Carver, West, Stokes, and N Davidson. I assure you that ain't gonna happen. They have aready said they would not play West again in football. I see the NW playing out more like Simmon's proposal. I guess we will wait and see.
 
6 out of the 7 opponents Mitchell would have in conference number 11 would be over an hour and a half drive and it wouldn't be but about 20 minutes better for Avery. Mitchell and Avery are just on such an island as 1a teams being about 1 and half or 2 hours from the northwest 1a teams, 2 to 3 hours from the smoky mountain 1a teams, and a little over an hour from the 1a teams like Thomas Jefferson, Cherryville, and Bessemer City.

You answered my question before I asked about drive times. It's one thing to make that drive on a Friday, but most schools have some sport traveling every day of the week.


Please post what would be a good group of schools for Mitchell and Avery.
 
Really the way it is currently set up now in the Western Highlands 1a/2a Conference is the only way that people will not have a cow around here. The core group of the WHC Avery, Mitchell, Mountain Heritage, Madison, and Owen have played together continuously for around 30 years, with teams like Hendersonville, Polk, Pisgah, Brevard, West Henderson, and East Henderson making up the other 2 or 3 teams to go with these 5 over the years. If Mitchell and Avery had to join an all 1a conference I guess the closest drive time wise would be those southwest foothills teams like Thomas Jefferson, Cherryville, and Bessemer City, but man that would just seem like an awful fit geographically and rivalry wise, just wouldn't be mountain football.

Lol, sorry man I got caught up in the 2a #10. Looking at East Montgomery moving to 2a at the realignment. Too much traveling with that proposal. But yeah your #10 looks better .

No way East Wilkes and Alleghany get taken away from Elkin and Starmount. Mitchell and Avery stay were they are in a split. Split conferences will be impossible to get rid off with 1A schools like Mitchell and Avery being isolated. As well as South Caldwell and McDowell being the only 4A schools in the mountain area.
 
Conference 12 would be a miserable conference for Polk with all those charter schools. Polk would never make any money off the visiting teams and the away games would have no atmosphere.
 
I'm pretty sure most people in this area would like to see the NW1A how it was back in the early to mid 2000s. I doubt it will happen though.
 
Because Walkertown and Atkins are moving up, the only way MA and ES are getting away from McGuinness and WSP would be without N. Stokes and S. Stokes because someone has to form a conference with McGuinness and WSP. They are not going to put 2 1A schools in with a bunch of 2A schools except where there are no other 1A schools around like in the mountains. Even if N. Stokes and S. Stokes got put with MCGuinn and WSP, that still only leaves 4 1A schools. I suppose they could do a split with the Forsyth and Stokes 1A's and 2A's but still no way N. Stokes and S. Stokes get away from Forsyth. And the NCHSAA showed they don't care about gates that much.
 
IMO: the State will protect Prep and Bishop...look for those schools along with North/South Stokes, East Surry and MA to form a new conference...it sucks but that's the way it is.....
 
I googled NCHSAA realignment and the committee people for realignment are listed and one is from Forsyth County. Not sure if that means much but...
 
I think the split conference should be the conference with the prep/private schools.

Atkins

Forgot Atkins. Take Forbush out and add them. Bush could stay for a 9 team conference. Its also a possibility imo that Prep, Bishop, South Stokes, maybe North could end up with North Rowan and South Davidson.

State is not going put the silver spoons in with the 2a schools.
 
They are not going to put any 1A schools into a 2A conference when there are only 2 of them except where no other option like in the mountains, not even rusty spoons. Again, they might do a split, but if they do it will contain S. Stokes and N. Stokes as well.

Drive time for this group stays about the same as this year,none closer or farther away than the 1A schools in the 1A - 2A split conference

This group is all a closer drive than the NW1A with N.Stokes
being maybe 40 min. and all the rest 20 to 30 min. or less.

the split with the WS/Stokes schools may happen, but I doubt it seriously....not going to let those 1A 's take beatings from Carver and Walkertown yearly in football...

I tell you this....most parents and kids from Bishop McGuinness and other schools like WS Preps ......Charlotte Catholics (I bet you think that school is silver spoon school) Charlotte Catholics will make mincemeat of out Robbinsville football team quite easy. I am not talking about the size of the school. I am talking about the discipline and LUNCH PAIL attitude they bring to the football field. Bishop McGuinness has not have a great football team in long time and probably will have middle of the pack team for a while. I know some parents that send their kids to Bishop are hard working people that earn hard working money. They are not rich and some of them have two jobs in order to send their kids to a better school. If you have same opportunity to send your kids to better school, you would do it in a HEARTBEAT.

Don't judge people from other schools unless you are in their shoes!
