Murphy @ Heritage

Murphy is beat up in the trenches, 'Dogs lost two starting lineman this week, including their big 6'4 290 lb tackle early in the Robbinsville game. When #71 went down there's no question that it had a major impact on Murphy's D tonight and given what Heritage likes to do offensively it will probably have an even bigger impact next week. All that may come across as an excuse to some but the reality is this injury is a potentially huge factor in how this football game plays out.

Having said all that, even with #71 on the field I believe Heritage would probably be a two touchdown favorite next Friday night. Murphy is a young team and I'd say a year away from being in the same echelon as where Heritage appears to be at this season.

Murphy has a fast offense and very smart thinking QB from what I’ve seen..but it also seemed that the teams they mostly beatup on reg season had a lot of missed tackles and were misguided in their assignments ..not taking anything away from Murphy they have the talent.
Next games ahead they will see the defensive lines player blowoff the line much quicker before they even get their back fields motor started to an open field to be able to run, same goes for their receivers having somuch time to get open allowing for high scoring finishes…Murphy knows they have been there before..good luck at MH suppose to be snowing or 17* stinger weather!

So they run up field ?

I haven't seen Murphy but no matter who when you're playing Mtn Heritage you have to win at the line scrimmage and stop the run especially the qb.
MH doesn't have the biggest for sure but the best blocking line I've seen this year and if they can do what they do best they're good at limiting how many chances the other team gets the ball by eating up the clock.

Actually east Wilkes had the ball longer then heritage .

I didn't know that, but what I mean that's Joey's type offense ball control and eat the clock. But sometimes like against EW they get some big runs and score faster.
Ether way you have to stop the run the QB has 559 yards passing but 1445 yards rushing.

Fear not, Mtn Heritage. Murphy has no chance. Don’t even waste your time prepping for the Dogs. Just go ahead and start prepping for Mt Airy or Corvian.

All joking aside, it should be a good, physical game. Hope Murphy can play well enough to have a chance to pull it out in the 4th qtr.

I respect the heck out of Murphy but that's apples and oranges that team should not have been favored lol
Wasn’t that when the show ‘cheers’ was still on the tube!..lol should be warmer on field than being in the stands next week..GL to both teams!

….Just wanted to know how this came to fruition?
Independent schools …it’s like a draft choice ? ,I don’t know if a student has to be within the circle of 25 miles for a given time to be eligible to play a given year?…love that there’s freedom of choice to attend public or independent ,private..if that’s allowed or be accepted to attend one but ,are not private schools in a category of playoffs themselves?
Just a curious concern of who how this was decided to incorporate both ‘types’ of schools to play all together, why not include private with all ?

2021. Pretty sure Cheers went off the tube long before that lol
We lost to Mitchell 33-0 that year not dowing that team as Mitchell was really good but they played as well as they could have against Murphy.

Actually, I totally agree with this statement after seeing both teams play.

Best case scenario heritage wins by two or three scores
With no #71 clogging the middle on D or opening holes on O I could see this one getting out of hand with a tough road game environment as a backdrop.

If Murphy keeps this game competitive it will mean #5 really showed out. #5 will have to match or exceed last week's performance for Murphy to stay within striking distance tomorrow night.

Hopefully someone steps up and plays well
I hope so as well. I don't mean to come across as pessimistic, I just try to be realistic about the situation at hand. The problem for Murphy is they have zero real size on either line without #71. The sophomore #72 Owens who is a big kid too and was #71's backup could've stepped in and did a serviceable job, but the young man got a season ending injury himself mid season. So unfortunately it leaves Murphy with no real legitimate options with size upfront.

On a positive note Murphy should have a little more size next season with #71 and #72 returning and one or two of the JV kids integrating into the varsity squad, i.e. the freshman Burrell.

So that leaves Murphy now with no size from anyone that is actually capable of contributing.
Without 71 I'd say Murphy is still as big or bigger than Heritage but size ain't everything

You're right size isn't everything but functional size (i.e. size that can actually play) definitely makes a difference especially against a between the tackles power run game like Heritage.

EW line looked bigger than MH heck Mitchell's did. The wkyk announcers said last week that pretty much every team they've played has had a bigger line. But MH line are well couched and have good blocking technique. One year Mitchell had a huge line boys 6'3"+except one who was 5'10", guess who was the best blocker and defensive lineman?

Yes, losing 71 has me concerned but can Heritage stop Murphy’s offense

With #71 and #78 out Murphy is down their starting right tackle and center but it didn't seem to slow down #5 too much in the second half last Friday night, so we'll see.

I think #71 is definitely a bigger loss on defense, he frees things up for #84 and #76 on the d-line.

With MH's power run game, we should a lot of 5 man fronts. Coaches have had a week to prep, might see a different defensive scheme.
