Here we go folks... let's leave the Albemarle crowd to their own thread. I'm sure this one will have some legs in the coming weeks. Appears that the announcement could come early next week. Fans from the east side will finally have something to look forward to in the fall besides a 3rd or 4th place finish in a football conference!!

Where would this school be located? What would happen to the facilities at West Montgomery?

If You was to get into a Conference with Winston-Salem Teams and Teams around Greensboro, You gonna wish for 4th or 5th place. Lots of respect to Montgomery Teams but You will probably get spanked before You spank

School would be adjacent to Montgomery Community College. The school will offer Early College and the students who are enrolled can exit high school with a 2 year Associate's Degree. That puts them as a Jr. at a four year institution. The classification would be 2AA. There are plenty of 2A/AA level schools in the area that West Montgomery would be paired with and with the right coach West will be ok. You know Shelby owns 2AA so there's that. You play the teams you have to play and that's that. Albemarle benefited greatly from Gaster and the open enrollment during their run to the championships. I know there were several kids that crossed the river when West was way down and Albemarle was taking home State titles. Bulldogs Follower you need to worry about the mess in your own backyard and not what's happening in Montgomery County. As far as the facilities go, I'm sure they will be utilized for offseason workouts, practices etc..... East has never spent any real money on theirs because the fan base never really has gave a crap. The merger, like it or not, is happening and the Warrior faithful will lead the way in making it work. The booster's club will be led by the best group of volunteers in the state. The 10-15 players West will benefit from the Eagles will complement an already strong program. Many on the East side have said they'll send their kids to Pinecrest etc...... Oh well....... just like the sorry decision the All Star coach from East made on quitting after the 12 year olds qualified for state and had to forfeit, it's what that side of the river is known for. In a perfect world they'd split the money and keep the schools separate. That's not going to happen. New school will open in 2019 I believe.

Shelby has been 2a the past several years, not 2aa and probably be 2a this year as well...Monroe has been 2aa....I thought consolidation would have happened in Davidson co by now....3 school systems Lexington city/Thomasville city and county schools

BD, I'm a big Fan of what You have been able to do in Montgomery County. I admit that I'm jealous of Your School Board.

Merger is unlikely to happen in Davidson County in our lifetimes, unless mandated by the state. Google the Davidson Vision school merger study done a few years ago. Interesting read. School merger would cost the systems $16 million, mostly in federal funding. Since Davidson is the lowest locally funded county in North Carolina already, that funding gap couldn't be overcome.

I think Monroe will be in small 3A in the new realignment. WM has had some great battles with them in the recent past. I think Crest is 3AA, so that would be a good one not to worry about. :)

With the direction the NCHSAA is heading with the Charter Schools it will be interesting to see what happens in 1A. 2A/AA will be the best scenario for legit schools to win due to the number of rural schools that actually benefit from a limited talent pool, coaching and developmental programs in the youth leagues and middle school. 1A will fall by the wayside like basketball and baseball. I 100% support the consolidation and I am sure that with the proper leadership it will benefit not only the students but the community as well. Not much has been said about the bypass that is being built but that will play hell on the people who would consider moving to Montgomery County. The single high school could realistically be classified as 2A by the end of the first four years as 2AA. The athletes and families that have contributed to both West and east will largely remain the same. Add in a few transients every two-three years and athletically it will be a very formidable opponent. Life goes on and changes happen. North Carolina is the second fastest growing state in the country. No longer do the traditional rivalries matter outside of the same zip code. Getting the kids educated and providing them with opportunities outside of what is currently available should be every parent, teacher and coach's goal. I believe we as a county have the leadership in place to put that goal in the achievable category. Good luck to everyone this fall.

Agree with a lot of what you said in both post BD. Although you may want to back up on the allstar situation. Having had a son that was on that team, I don't think your remarks are justified. Yes the coach did quit but, there was way more to it than what you may of heard. Your insight into the consolidation was too good to taint your post with a misinformed comment on how we are "over here"

Got a team??? For that matter do you have any one that really cares??? Had eligibility requirements been as regulated and monitored as it is today y'all wouldn't have 5. May not any. And not a damn soul thinks otherwise. Keep your pie hole shut and enjoy what will surely be the last we hear of the "glory" days of Albemarle. Back to being a non factor in sports like they were for 50+ years.

Thank you.

As far as the All Star game, the bottom line is the coach quit and the contingent from East decided to quit with him. That denied the remaining players the chance to play at the State Tournament. A coach has to be thick skinned and not let his feelings get in the way of the responsibility of the players he is in charge of. If you are a parent that supported the walking away from the tournament then I feel sorry for your kid and for you. As a former athlete you don't have to agree with the coaching decisions but you never, never ever quit. This isn't the first time this has happened from the East side in the All Stars. It has happened numerous times due to parents not liking the coach, position assignments, etc..... it is something I hope won't carry over to the central high school. If so, those kids should be sent to O'Neal or Pinecrest where the whiny spoiled brats go.

Keep my "Pie Hole" shut, HA! It's a new day in America....certainly not 50 years ago..

Yes we have a team....did you see our schedule, has been the toughest in the conference the past 4 years, no one would disagree with that. And I wasn't born 50 years ago, so all I know is Albemarle beating the breaks off of everybody, especially WM. If your going to make a post about WM and EM merging, then let that be it...I will troll to my hearts desire. WM probably has a better chance at winning states in a higher category than being in little ranky dank 1A, ask Monroe...

"West Montgomery", "Monroe", "North Rowan",etc all felt the dog bite..

ahhhhh....glory days....glory days....... troll away.... West will continue to succeed on and OFF the playing field. Enjoy this football season and what y'all have coming. And, by the way, try installing more security in the school. I hear it's gonna be a tough year.

The consolidation of East Montgomery and West Montgomery should produce some solid, if not spectacular, small 3A football teams. I like Coach Eddins and would believe that he would be the most logical choice to be the head football coach should Coach Eddins still reside in Montgomery County at that time.

As far as the actual merger goes, I think it would help East Montgomery more than it would help West Montgomery.

Thank you.

Actually my kid was 1 of the 2 that didn't pull out from the east side. Can't say I disagree with the fact the coach should of finished it up. I will say this, when parents can't keep their mouths shut drama ensues. And there was a whole lot of drama coming from the west side parents. I definitely didn't agree with the drama but I would never let my kids quit something they start. anyway enough baseball, football is just around the corner.

I hope these parents workout their differences soon. These kids could/would be the first freshman and sophomore class at the new school.

I don't think the kids from either side will come together until the old mindset of thinking is gone. Too many parents involved who only see West and east. I am one. I believe for the first few years there will be a lot of Charter School attendees from parents who can afford transportation and the consolidated high school will become a low performing, high minority magnet. And this is after hearing from several in the community. Regardless of what the politicians say, and I am for the school, the community is 80% or higher against the single high school. It was said 30 years ago. That river may as well be a wall.

BD doesn't the two high schools offer early college now? Just wondering between the two schools what's the number of students taking advantage of thus opportunity to justify a one high school,
