Last night Millbrook played a great game and they are well coached and played with great discipline. After the game an angry Millbrook parent sucker punched the Millbrook HC. After the punch the players and some parents got into an ugly brawl. At least 40 cops came to break it up.

It was a very emotional game and I know it was a letdown as Millbrook was still alive until under a min left in the game.
HS coaches put up with a lot and most do a tremendous job. No coach deserves this. Last night we saw the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Nothing more frustrating than parents that think they know more than the coaches. Hope the coach is ok.

I've seen the potential for this to happen several times. It's just nuts how parents just get nuts especially in the playoffs.

@nepsy7 will remember it better but think it was at Mallard Creek when they lost to Vance when the Kelly kid was QB and it gotta nuts as the coaches were leaving the field post game. Will never understand adults being that caught up in a HS football game.

A mother told the coach that they would have won if her son played. The coach gave a very good response and said if is playing the players he feels gives them the best chance to win. The husband pulls the lady back then punches him in face. I hope he was arrested.
Parents expect their kids to make good decisions and to deal with adversity. Well we have to do the same.

Put his ass under the jail.

This happens too often. IIRC this almost happened at a Rolesville game a couple of years ago but it was the coaches' wives and family.

Recently, I was at an out of state game and NO ONE was allowed on the field before during and after the game. Its at that point. Though most parents are good people, they don't (and shouldn't have to police their own) there is too much precedent that as a whole, they cannot be trusted. Parents need to be put in check.

Going on the field to greet your child/family or friend is such a great experience. The raw emotions of the game are still fresh. It is a shame that this has to be restricted because parents cannot control their emotions and actions.

I never understood wanting to go on the field/court as a parent. Its ok for a kid to go through failure and a parent not be there immediately to support them. People that care about them are there, they're completely safe - let them learn to deal with things on their own, and the parent can see them in roughly 20 minutes (or an hour~ if its away).

As a coach the last person I want to deal with is a parent post game. There are so many things that need to be done or supervised and coaches are dealing with post game reflection themself. A coach should never feel unsafe while doing coaching duties and parents on the field/court post game are the most common reason why.

Not to defend the parent at all because they were completely wrong. But the football post game has become a spectacle in itself. How many times this weekend did we see teams fighting post game with this flag planting stuff? Or coaches fighting? Fans fighting? So this parent attacking a coach is not some isolated event. Football is very emotional especially post season as many are playing their last games and many see football as their ticket to a better life. NO other sport even comes close to the emotional impact football has on players, coaches, fans, and parents. So we have to better prepare for this stuff emotionally.

-To me this is on the school officials. You were fully aware you were playing an playoff game on the road and could possibly lose. You send an officer or security to the coaching staff and officials prior to the final play to ensure both staffs and officials leave the field safely. Also set the expectations with parents/players that we don't want to lose but if we do lose with grace and humility. Attacking a coach is unacceptable and the person should be arrested. Parents have to understand that coaches hurt too very badly after these loses. They are people too, but they cant just punch every kid, asst coach or player that made a mistake or made them mad. So parents must understand that too.

-The parents trying to protect their player and build them up did more harm in attacking a coach than they can even imagine. Now your child is identified as a problem child with problem parents. This will stick with them. NO coach wants them on their team. Give me the supportive quiet parent every day. Everyone use a 24 hour cool down period after games. No communication with parents and no communication with coaches until 24 hours after the game. This helps put things in perspective. Parents never communicate with a coach after an emotional game or loss. NEVER.

I would say to protect the coaches and have it so coaches are able to institute the 24 hour rule, NCHSAA needs to do a better job. Like other states do, cut off all access to the field.

It simply shouldn't have to be this way but it is. Both the home and away schools need to be better prepared. I have seen parents menace and threaten coaches from the stands and follow the team to their buses and rides. I have seen parents refusing to take direction from schools until police came. They need to be prosecuted.

Every coach and AD nowdays explains in the parent meeting the 24 hour rule. This kid probably a senior and this parent felt the need to make a bad decision. Parents should be real, it is no coach that going to have your son on the sidelines, if he gives me the best chance to win! And every kid on the team knows who should be on the field at any time.

Saying "I have a 24 hour rule" means nothing when the parent is standing there yelling at the coach. It falls on admin - the principal - to do it. If they aren't willing to bar spectators, deny access to graduation, or trespass people then it means nothing. If there isn't backing from those above you then any rule or policy a coach makes is worthless.

There is so much to unpack morally, socially and generationally not sure where to begin with this incident. However one of the more frustrating things about this event is that if the HC had fought back and kicked the parents A$& like it needed to be done....he would have been on the news, suspended and fired. While the instigator will probably get a slap on their wrist and go on with their life.

I always thought it would be poetic justice if coaches followed some of their hecklers around at their jobs to critique and bark at them.

We are allowed to go on the field after the game and talk to our kid. Our coach and AD make it clear not to approach a coach after the game to talk about playing time, a call etc... I enjoy getting to see my kid after a game but if folks can't act like they have any sense it ruins it for everyone.
