Surprised this has not been posted earlier. Harvey Brooks, a single-wing guru who coached for 39 seasons in various parts of NC, passed away earlier this week.

Brooks was the last football coach at Norwood High School (1960 and 1961 seasons) and the first one at South Stanly High (1962 through 1966 seasons) after the consolidation of Norwood and Aquadale high schools. He really honed the interest in football in the South Stanly area, which still remains today.

After leaving Stanly County, he coached in Warren County for a few years, and then became a fixture at Princeton High School. He never got a state championship, but his teams played for one at least four times.

He is held in great regard by those who played for him, and touched the lives of many young men.
