Lincolnton - Shelby Updates

Good game guys. Shelby is the better team, as I expected. We had chances to keep it real close and maybe even win it, but we needed to play a perfect game and we didn't. Didn't care for the play calling on third and fourth down, down by 9 with about 7 or 8 minutes left and in the redzone, but there's a reason I'm not coaching, I guess. The fumble to start the second half really hurt too. Our defense really struggled in the first half but made great adjustments at halftime and played well in the second half. Just couldn't put enough points on the board. Congrats to Shelby and good luck next week going for the 3-peat. I feel sure you'll bring it home. Congrats to the Wolves on a great season. Keep working hard and come back stronger. And a big congrats to #22, Tarus Dameron, on breaking the single season county rushing record. This kid deserves many more offers than he has so far.

The 4th down stops was big! I also think Lincolnton focused on the Lions passing attack so much that the run game hurt us big time, but it is what it is I'm not a "If Fan" the better team won tonight! Now go bring another Title back to the westside! I know nothing about the East teams, but you guy Got This!

Good game Lincolnton. Congrats on a fine season. Y'all were tough, with BIG time talent.
For the Lions, happy with a win, but we'll have to play better next week. No clue how much penalty yardage we had, but it was a bunch. Offense played good, though. defense had it's hands full with Dameron, but held up pretty good. Special teams? EWwww.

#22 was good, but he wasn't the best rb tonight, BROOKS only a sophomore 276 yards tonight!!
Wolves played tough. 22 I said was going to be a handful. But how about DaDa Brooks 276 yards rushing.
Can someone explain the logic in playing jv guys on your main kick off team??? We have all our best tacklers off the kick off team and it has been a disaster. I get trying to get kids in but this is getting ridiculous. Penalties tonight were horrible and most were legit which makes it worse.
Congrat. Lions on big win. Great effort by coaches, team, Brooks, and offensive line. Truck played well when Lee got hurt then Truck got hurt and Lee had to come back and play on a bad foot. Some big stops for the defense. Much respect for Lincolnton's tradition, team, and fans. They have some great athletes and Dameron runs as hard as any back I've seen.
Big kick by Tripplett and the 4 down stand were huge in the outcome. OLINE WAS STELLAR!
When we got the ball on opening kickoff I saw the lincolnton defense and wasn't expecting what I saw ! Smallest lincolnton defense I've personally seen... That's not a knock at all because they were very quick 9 and 82 were very good on defense .... ... Very talented team ... Always a treat watching these two teams hook up... Two great fan bases !! Our 9 page thread was a lot of fun ...

Congratulations to the Golden Lions. The best team won. A big thumbs up to the quarterbacks, especially 13, a little guy with a lot of heart. Shelby beat us with the run as well as the pass.All the best to you guys as you go for the three-peat, against Kinston.

Lincolnton did you get to come? I looked across the way and thought I spotted the coveralls with maybe a yellow undershirt? I'm not as young as I used to be so can't see as well... I paced a bit for both of us tonight ... Know your proud of those wolves and they were an extremely tough ball club ...

Here's what I expect:
- Both teams bring their A-game - For the most part...
- Lincolnton runs at least 2 trick plays (one works, one doesn't) - I counted 3 trick plays, one they got an 8-yard pass, one they lost 5 yards, one they lost 8 yards
- At least one big special teams play by Shelby (could be a return or a blocked kick) - One blocked PAT, but Lincolnton had two long KO returns
- Dameron gets his 100+ yards and impresses everybody in the stands - Over 200 yards and impressed everyone
- Lee throws at least 2 TD passes - Only threw 1 TD pass, but Sims also threw one as he played all but one series of the 1st half in place of injured Lee
- Game decided in 4th Quarter - Yes
- Great sportsmanship by both teams and coaching staffs - Yes, for the most part
Not surprised at all by Shelbys talent...loaded. Was surprised by our offense, as it was more running than usual, but We had a shot to win this thing, so I am certain the coaches game planned appropriately. And more Dameron is not a bad thing! We could not stop Da Da, and that was that. Wished we had punched in that TD late, but you stopped 22 twice, so my hat is off. I heard a lot of carping about those two plays...the pitch and the polecat, but the fact is, that you stopped our guy on two plays that I didn't think you could...
Your concession stand baffles me, tho! One window open, there folks inside...the line took about 30 minutes. That's cool, unless you wanna actually make money!

I guess if you go by yardage alone, you're right. I don't wanna take anything away from Brooks, but with us dropping 7-8 into coverage every play, he could have walked for 200 yards. Dameron had to fight for every yard he gained and he played a heck of a game. I think Shelby has one of their best offenses ever, but I don't think their D is as good as a lot of other Shelby ones I've seen. Not taking anything away from Shelby's team or players and I don't mean any disrespect. Just giving my assessment of this year's Shelby team. Obviously, you're one of the best 2A and beyond teams in the state and I think you guys will roll next Saturday. Good luck.
And a big thank you to our players and coaches. This was far from our most talented team, but you all achieved a lot this year and made us very proud. Maximum effort is all we ask and I think you guys gave it your all.
We didn't play y'all like we should of, just because of mp beating us deep 2 times last week, we only had 8 in the box, I don't think it's a team in NC who Have face the rbs that we have this year and I will say out of all of them #22 was the best I have saw all year!
Thanks for that, 002. Wish he had been featured for 4 years, here. He set our county record for a season, during that first long run... I hope more colleges give him a look based on what he did vs. a great team. He is big and strong, but sneaky fast, too. I don't remember anybody catching him from behind this year...

A couple of things. Shelby only has maybe two or three seniors on defense. Secondly our D cord was not there due to sickness. I will admit our D is not what it has been but with our O it can afford to give up some. Lastly if Lee is healthy we score 50.
You say that like you still have something to prove. Which is silly. What does it matter if you scored 37 or 50? 37 was plenty. If Lee was healthy you probably throw twice as much, then you have close to 400 passing and only 100 or so rushing. What's the difference? He could have sat back there on a stool and still threw those quick passes and handed it to Brooks.
If 22 breaks that tackle..6
If 19 intercepts that slant, he goes to the house...6 (you couldn't see how close that was from your side)
If 11 throws that ball 1 yard longer...6
If we miss all those points after, we win by 2...

Great game...22 is a stud. Amazing he can get going as fast as he can at his size....looks like a Tolbert but runs like a Sproles. Your oline did a great job blocking Hollifield. Talked to him after the game and he said the tackle kept getting to him. That is impressive. As mentioned above, only 2 seniors on that defense...a DB and a DT (I believe). That defense will be amazing the next two years with lots of athletes coming back on offense as well. Gonna be fun for a while.
Our game plan has moved more to a running attack as of late. I guess you play what the defense gives you and with the injuries you have. Watch Lee's video from Lincolnton game. The 28 second mark features a decleater by Borders and at 38 second mark you will see why Lee was taken out of the game by a cheap shot on his ankle.
