I was told that Queen City, Union County, Matthews, and another team being sponsored out of the Union County area will be moving to area 3 in 2025. Only was told seniors. Unsure about juniors.

Yes that's probably going to happen. The trips that Union and Queen City have to make to Asheville is very far. I think Area IV may be adding some teams in the Wilkes County area.

Well there is only one team in Wilkes county and it has been hit or miss as to fielding a team over the last 20 years.

Adding teams? In the age of travel ball is this really gonna happen? Is the quality of player gonna be there or is it gonna be the rejects.

Are people realizing travel ball is a money racket and coming back to legion ball? I hope so 🤞

I don’t think they are adding teams, I believe this is just rearranging the divisions.

There is talk about Wilkes County getting a team.

Man I hope so, but I doubt it. It's a different kind of kid these days. Legion ball was my favorite baseball, and I played college for 4 years. We played 40 games a summer against the best competition. A baseball game almost every night was amazing. I didn't go on summer vacations because of it, but didn't mind. Kids nowadays don't want to play that much. They want their summer vacations and to be lazy all summer. It's too much for them. Very sad. Travel ball lets them do nothing all week, cram 4-5 games in on the weekend, and that's it.

I played 45 games during the summer of 1980. What a great time to be a kid that loved playing ball. I heard my Coach Buck Hardee say one of the questions he got from college recruiters was, Does the kid love baseball? I am not sure how you call tell by weekend tournaments and showcases.

As BleedBurnsBlue stated, American Legion baseball can take your whole summer. Playing 40 games a summer in 95 degree heat with few fans in the stands on the early regular season games will tell you quickly if a kid loves the game.

Yes the time commitment is not what kids nowadays want

I heard that Area III could have 18 teams this season. That's a lot more than they had last year. I know Queen City, Union County, and Mathews are coming over from Area IV but does anyone know who the other additional teams might be. Looks like Area IV will have only 10 teams this year (if Wilkes County has a team), only 9 if they don't.

I know for a fact only Union County, Matthews, Queen City, and a new team out of Union County/Porter Ridge area will be going to area 3. I can only confirm that Shelby, Gastonia, Gaston, Asheville, Rutherfordton, Cherryville and Caldwell County are a lock. Who knows about Burke and Hickory. I would assume 7-9 at least.

Area III my assumptions:

Southern
Queen City
Union County
Matthews
Union County 2
Concord
Kannapolis

Northern
Rowan
High Point
Davidson
Randolph
Liberty
Mocksville Davie

That northern division will be really tough. I would imagine playoffs will have to start earlier and you will take at least the top 3 from each league.
