Huss is really down this season. Started the season 0-5. against pretty good competition in Hickory Ridge, Kings Mtn, South Point, Cramer and Forestview. Got smoked in each game and recently have reports of bad behavior and discipline issues with the players.
With all those blowout losses the first 5 games, what happened last night might have caused the Huskies to actually implode. They Lost to North Gaston 20-19. North Gaston, the perennial bottom feeder in the Big South.
Now the Huskies have to tuck their tails between their legs and whimper to the Ranch on the campus of Crest High. The look Chargers flying high with good wins over South Point and Forestview.
I expect the Chargers to open up the stables and release Mari Adams and Javarious Green to run wild.
If you arrive late to the game and the home stands are crowded you can mosey over to the visitors side for spacious seating choices as the Huss folks do not travel well.
See you Friday.

Attitudes have been removed for the most part. They seemed to have shot themselves in the foot Friday night more then anything. They had close to 200 yards on the ground but penalties and some negative plays made hard to get anymore. Just looking for them to stay competitive and keep fighting no delusions here.

Glad to hear the bad attitudes have been removed. Huss has always given Crest a tough game over the years. Hope to see a clean game this Friday.

Huss plays lots of freshman and sophomores so they'll have their hands all kinds of full in this one. Give them a couple years and they'll be fine, but until then they're gonna take a few on the chin.

They really aren't playing up. Their numbers are down and I believe it has to do with covid and upperclassmen holding out bc McCoy left. According to the adm's that were used, South point had right at 1000 kids SC had 1038 and huss had 1046 give or take a few. So the state moved sp up and moved huss down and the reasoning was because huss had more kids on free and reduced lunch. That's why they won their appeal

It’s truly unfortunate what has happened with the Huss program after McKoy left. There is a lot of finger pointing by some people at players but Huss administration and current coaching staff definitely should take their share of the blame. Personally I give them the the buck of it. This staff inherited plenty of talent in their program. You have a new principal, a new head coach (NG alum) with no head coaching experience who has no connections to the Huss community and a whole new assistant coaching staff with limited varsity football coaching experience. Middle school coaches. I haven’t heard one Huss alum applaud this hire. Not one. It was a disaster waiting to happen from the jump. Why didn’t the current Huss coach get the NG when he applied? He was already on staff there when it opened up and Justin is an alum also of NG but he came from out of state and got the job with no head coaching experience. Thompson then applies and get the Huss job after being denied the NG job. Something stinks there. This is exactly why Gaston County is stinking up the place in high school sports. A lot of back room deals appear to be going on in Gaston County high school sports. Here’s another question. Why was Huss forced to play SP with many of their varsity players out due to Covid but the SP/Ashbrook game was moved to Monday for the same reason? It’s not what you know it’s who you know in Gaston County high school sports. Unfortunately a school like Huss does not have the political capital to push back.

Okay. You on here blaming the kids for Huss’s embarrassing season is truly ignorant. The way Huss has handled their football program is truly ignorant. I am hoping that you are not one of those middle school coaches Thompson brought in lol.

He wasn't on staff at noga he applied at ashbrook he and 2 other coaches were actually on ashbrooks staff before he got the huss job. Not sure if he applied it noga to be honest. When mccoy left a lot of players left too before he was hired. And any Huss alumni that's been around the program applauds what hes had to deal with and do and is doing. But find some teachers and ask them how they like the hire. That's what I did, they'll tell all you need to know. From what my nephew tells me the older kids didn't like the structure on the field he's installed that's why the ones left in the school aren't playing or were let go from the team. Some of the bad attitudes seemed to have been some of the talent.

You are correct, he was on Trashbrook’s staff at the time he applied. As a new inexperienced head coach you can create problems when replacing a winning coach with big time ties to the West Gastonia community. He should have retained a couple of key coaches from the previous staff to smooth things over with players and others. It was a winning staff. From what I’ve been told, more than a few of them wanted to stay at Huss. Keeping some of those coaches would have alleviated some problems Huss new staff ran in to. All schools have problems especially your Title I schools.
Gaston County really looks at transfers in/out of Huss so I do not buy a lot of players leaving. I know families who had Gaston County visit them multiple times during McKoy’s time based off of unfounded claims from other teams. Winning 2 games in Spring and starting out 0-6 WILL create problems within the team when the kids are used to winning. That’s a fact anywhere. Honestly Highland Tech is the only Gaston County team that I believe Huss can outright beat right now on the field which is sad. BC and Cherryville both would beat Huss right now. Crest will score as many as it likes this week. Gaston County High Schools are turning away great opportunities to bring in good coaches from outside the county when these jobs come open. The Huss opening generated a lot of coaching interest because of the athletes that Huss produce.

Well from what I know he kept quite a few coaches and they ended up leaving for whatever reason. And seeing I know of at least 2 kids that left to play at bc and 1 to play at km and 2 that left for clover, and those were key contributors. Stack that with the 2 kids that left for college early and thats a depleted talent pool. Then you add in virtual learning last year they say huss had at least 10 kids in that, that were in rotations with mccoy. I know they had some that were in virtual that were ineligible when they came back this summer. He'll the tate kid at Shelby on jv was supposed to be at huss till covid. Gaston County can look all they want if it is a legit transfer they can't do anything about it, and I never said when the kids left the left on a illegal transfer. From my understanding he grew up at that time on the line of huss noga and ashbrook. He spent most of his coaching career at this level in Gaston County at noga then ashbrook under Mike Briggs. Along with being on 2 college staffs one being the staff that took Lenoir Rhyne to the national championship. And honestly right now you might be right as to Highland Tech bc and Cherryville. But they have a very talented underclass group add in the southwest and York Chester kids coming in and they will be a hand full in a few years. Unless you promote from within like sp did with hodge you are always going to have these issues the first few years.

I am aware of a couple of these moves of players. The only ones that were athletic related that I know of are the moves to Clover because NC wasn’t sure if they were going to have a season last year. KM lost a big time player to Gaffney for the same reason. One of the moves to BC was investigated by GC like someone would move to BC for sports reasons smh. Huss was still pretty stacked after those moves with returning talent. Huss benefitted from the Southwest Middle School talent pipeline and still has alot of that talent on its roster.
Malik Corey was the Huss player that scared opposing defensive coaches the most and I watched him only touch the ball 5-9 times a game and he should have touched it 15-20 times.
I’ve always supported Huss but there is something broken here and in Gaston County high school sports in general. I would definitely give these coaches the benefit of the doubt if they were coming into a program that had to be rebuilt but this wasn’t the case. He took over a 9-3 team that had a ton of returning talent and mishandled the transition. We can agree to disagree but I definitely believe that this coaching staff and Huss school administration has to take the bulk of the blame for this mess. Everything else is just excuses.

So who are the top teams in 3A? I know KM and Crest but who are the favorites to win it? Seems like a lot of the usual suspects went to 4a or 2a.

I agree with you .....I never liked burns going 2 A ....now we see where it got us.
Crest only about 150 students from 2a ball and people don’t think it can happen. I think it’s very possible with Early College, Pinnacle and TJ as options for kids. KM is growing and everyone wants to move to Fallston and buy 20 acres. Shelby keeps zoning out to keep enough so they aren’t 1A . Boiling Springs is becoming a retirement community all the people that move there 10 years ago kids have graduated so 2a here my 🐎🐎 come😂😂😂

Is Crest defense missing some kids or is Huss offense better than I was led to believe?

Smash is he getting any looks from colleges? Kid can flat out run the ball.

Shows how crazy recruiting is. He's showing up on the radar so late the offers are slow coming in. Lets see...I'm a college with a chance to get a RB that runs like he's mad at the grass...is an all-state point guard...and sports a better than 4.0 GPA in class. I know Wake got a good look at him last week. Gotta believe the offers start rolling in soon.
