Mideastern 3A/4A standings after the first round of conference play. Listed beside the record is the strength of schedule.

Ashley 13-1 6-1 11.7
Laney 8-4 6-1 9.3
New Hanover 8-4 4-3 11.6
Topsail 9-5 4-3 11.2
N Brunswick 6-7 3-4 9.6
Hoggard 5-9 2-5 11.3
S Brunswick 4-9 2-5 12.7
W Brunswick 4-9 1-6 9.9

Ashley has been winning all their games until last night but IMO hasn’t played up to their potential yet.

Laney may be the team that wins this conference. They have 2 very nice pitchers and are starting to play well after a slow start.

New Hanover has the pitching and plays solid defense. If they hit they are tough.

Topsail is not playing to my expectations but they are traditionally a tough team and I expect them to finish strong.

Hoggard seems to be down this year after losing a ton of seniors from last year.

Aside from Ashley and Laney, the conference is beating up on itself.

When does anyone start doing bracket predictions? I'd like to see some 1A love haha.

I'd like to know how Polk Co would be seeded. They are the only 1A team in their split conference. Any ideas?

Since they are the only one in that division that is 1A, and based on their current record/standing, they would be seeded via RPI after all conference champs are seeded.

EDIT: Adding that fact that all automatic qualifiers will be "in" and then the rest of the field is selected based on RPI. So if they are not high enough in RPI they may not even get in the playoffs.

EDIT 2: Brackets probably won't be predicted until halfway or more through conference games. With baseball being an every night sport, meaning more than likely someone is playing every night, you could see RPI moving constantly, causing brackets to change on an daily if not hourly basis until end of season.

Appreciate the information. Just to make sure I understand, is Polk Co not able to be seeded as a 1 since they are the only team? Meaning they can only fall into wild card range?

No, they would not, as they are the only 1A team from that conference. From NCHSAA "The highest finishing team from a given classification in a split conference will automatically qualify, regardless of overall conference finish (minimum of 2 schools per classification) "

I believe that was added a few years ago as teams were getting upset (at least in football) that some schools would be seeded as a #1 with a 2-8 record because they would be the only team in their conference that was in their respective division.

Gotcha. Thank you.

As of right now, this is what I see. The first 10 are the current conference leaders and Polk is currently at 17. I didn't have time to see if any of the teams would be affected by the leapfrog rule, but that only applies to getting into the playoffs, not seeding. Also, that normally is only an issue towards the last couple spots of the bracket.

Other games East Rowan 4 Central Cabarrus 0. East Rowan goes 15-3 on the season.
North Stanly 12 South Stanly 3. North Stanly is 15-0 on the season in 2A. North Stanly appears to be a good quality team to be watching. A fun game to watch would be to see Burns n North Stanly in a matchup. Can anyone tell me more about this team.
