Looking at some of the 2A West heavy weight teams at this point I thought I would put their average of offense of scoring and defense of giving of points so far for the season.
i know and understand each team has strength and weakness of schedule. So here are some top teams I listed on the 2A west side.

Salsibury is 8-0 and averaging 57 points a game and giving up 3 points a game.

Shelby is 7-1 averaging 47 points a game an giving up average of 14 points a game.

Reidsville is 7-0 and averaging 43 points a game an giving an average of 9 points a game.

Maiden is 8-0 and averaging 43 points a game and giving up an average of 7 points a game.

I didn’t round up but you see the picture. I’m really looking forward to the playoffs. Will be fun to see these good teams make a run in the playoffs. Anyone with thoughts, opinions or add another team in that can make that run. I just only added few of the West side.

East Surry Qb has D1 talent. Great Pocket presence and arm strength. He has a line that protects him well. Strength of schedule will hurt them. They have no threats as far as opponents this year in that conference. Missing the Mt.Airy game due to Covid Issues..may hurt them. I don't see them with comparable athletes as Reidsville, Salisbury, Shelby, or any of the teams mentioned above.

Losing gosnell hurts. I’ll say no one has mentioned east surry all year
I’m sure they would much rather fly under the radar and play the us against the world role. ES is a solid football team, excellent QB that throws his WRs open better than any QB I have seen this year. They are solid upfront and play well as a unit, have more athleticism than you think they do. They are missing their home run guys from the last couple of years and the big TE, but still a very good football team. Can they compete with Shelby, Reidsville, and Salisbury, I don’t think they are in that category of team, but they aren’t far behind and should make some noise in the playoffs.

Gosnell for Hendo is as under the radar of a stud as i have seen. Has every bit of what it takes to play D1 football! I think he is a sleeper QB like McCall at CCU that played for Porter Ridge and will get picked up by a program like CCU and may be just like Grayson....who will likely be a 3rd or 4th round pick very soon! He might go higher if he preforms like he did against BYU last year in that upset victory!! Gosnell is that same type QB and is game smart with from what I hear...a good head on his shoulders and brings a Tebow like winning attitude and leadership to the table! Hendo goes deep if not all the way with any luck and no serious injuries! Good luck Bearcats!!!

Reidsville has never won a unified championship, all their championship have been won since the split and and before the east/west started playing each other, they haven’t played the best in 2A but now they have to,and it will not be a cakewalk now, they have benefited the most from the split out of all teams in NC

There is no such thing as a "unified" championship. Its just something Reidsville haters invented.

Reidsville won numerous NCHSAA Championships before the split divisions and the East West divisions.

This Rams team is young and is not as strong as the past five years but will compete. Better get them this year or they will be hard to beat going forward.

Thats the exact same thing we said in 18 too

Some of you Ram posters aren’t fooling anyone, just preparing an excuse, if you were to lose in the post season. Can’t go from bragging about beating a “good 4A team” to being humble in a 2A forum. You for one, you’re always confident in this season’s squad.

I do like this team. Especially we should be getting some guys back. I think we are behind Salsibury and Shelby. If the rams get beat, you beat a good rams squad. Now the future is bright though, but I'm focused on this team. This team is behind the other few rams teams, due to probably youth and mental errors. But that 2nd half vs Page was a thing of beauty, the rams can compete vs anyone if they play like that.

And going into the season, Tamir johnson would likely have been the best player on this rams team returning and hasn't played yet. That's an ace in the hole, imo.

Seems i remember another team preparing excuses last year, something about running a 3-4 defense instead of a 4-4 or some BS like that for them not winning. As of lately the same team seems to be preparing another excuse except it's the OC this year. Maybe I'm just imagining things though.

Yes, you’re imagining things. No one has complained about the OC. Why would we? He’s been the OC throughout that run of state titles. It’s just the usual complaints just like most fan bases. You guys whipped a team recently in North Forsyth/Walkertown and some of you complained as if you’d lost, poor tackling and what not. It’s just the level of expectations you have for your squad.

You’d mentioned in another conversation you and I had that including Reidsville, there were 4 legit teams in the West, in your opinion. You and I both know that included Shelby, and the feeling is mutual in regards to your Rams.

Did I miss something...I thought Gosnell (the older brother) was playing for UNC.........
The older gosnell is at UNC, the younger gosnell was the big te/de that was at ES last year, I believe he went back to Carrol county VA hs this year which is where they are from. He had committed to Ohio State I believe but have heard that isn't the case now but not sure. The current QB for ES is Jefferson Boaz younger brother. Jefferson is at UNC as well. Apparently the hendo QB is a gosnell also.

The major difference in this edition of the Reidsville Rams is the offensive line is not as strong and there is no defensive stopper on the defensive line like K. Rankin was the past two seasons. The skill players are just as good, maybe better because of the speed of Flippin and Peoples. Soph QB Al Lee is just getting better and better.

Don't look for Tamir Johnson and Paul Widerman to contribute before the playoffs at the earliest.

That goes for A lot of teams. But Reidsville has had teams that could have won both. Remember in 2002 when they beat Cummings in the conference and both went on the win 2A and 2AA state Titles. The Reidsville Team that wons states this last spring would have won it in 2AA ALSO

Same could be said for Hendersonville. 1 loss to Daniel SC. Pretty much blew everyone else out. Proved last spring in playoffs they can play with the big boys when they beat Shelby in second round.
Hibriten said that too, but look who is there year after year. Hendersonville better get ready. Shelby is on the way.

No such thing as a unified state title unless 4-A champ plays 3-A, 3AA, 2A , 1AAAAA ... whatever.
You can only beat the teams that the governing organization puts you in a bracket with.

As for other sports, like golf, tennis, track and wrestling, there should be only one individual champ while the team titles should be kept separate based on enrollment. That's my opinion and I'm sticking with it.
