Heavy weights of the 2A West

Hibriten said that too, but look who is there year after year. Hendersonville better get ready. Shelby is on the way.

Hendersonville probably isn't worried with Shelby at the moment. Thst game is at least a month away. Both teams have to finish the reg season strong and then see where things fall.

Looking at some of the 2A West heavy weight teams at this point I thought I would put their average of offense of scoring and defense of giving of points so far for the season.
i know and understand each team has strength and weakness of schedule. So here are some top teams I listed on the 2A west side.

Salsibury is 8-0 and averaging 57 points a game and giving up 3 points a game.

Shelby is 7-1 averaging 47 points a game an giving up average of 14 points a game.

Reidsville is 7-0 and averaging 43 points a game an giving an average of 9 points a game.

Maiden is 8-0 and averaging 43 points a game and giving up an average of 7 points a game.

I didn’t round up but you see the picture. I’m really looking forward to the playoffs. Will be fun to see these good teams make a run in the playoffs. Anyone with thoughts, opinions or add another team in that can make that run. I just only added few of the West side.
I think that about covers it

No such thing as a unified state title unless 4-A champ plays 3-A, 3AA, 2A , 1AAAAA ... whatever.
You can only beat the teams that the governing organization puts you in a bracket with.

As for other sports, like golf, tennis, track and wrestling, there should be only one individual champ while the team titles should be kept separate based on enrollment. That's my opinion and I'm sticking with it.
Hickory High did it in b ball. :) 😀

I know they are sort of forgotten about being a mountain team like most teams up this way are. I understand that being the case as a lot of teams that are hyped west of Marion have had big let downs in the playoffs but beating this Hendersonville team will be a tough task for any team this year. I know they had the loss to Daniel S.C but that was a well oiled machine that won a state championship in S.C last year. I agree with the teams stated in the original post but I think Hendersonville has to be considered, they have also had several games canceled I believe which has kept them under the radar. But they will be a tough out for anyone and especially tough if your team has to travel up the mountain to beat them.

I couldn’t agree more!😉

Raleigh High won the first three NCHSAA open football championships, including a 117-0 classic over Asheville in 1914. Last consolidated football champ in N.C. was Willmington New Hanover in 1928.
Reidsville won the first of its 22 state titles two years later with a 20-7 win over Apex. That was Class B. Charlotte won Class A that year.

Living rent free...I love it!

Tville is correct, Reidsville has never won a unified title within a classification. Their titles have always come with the existence of split classifications or a rival association of which they did not have to play....aka the WNCHSAA. Once the WNCHSAA merged with the NCHSAA, Reidsville went on a 30 year drought from even sniffing a championship game (1970-2001). Not until split classifications did they make it back to a championship game.

Could this be the year they get their first?

2002 was pretty clear

More like 100 steps behind them.

More like 100 steps behind them.
I saw them up close in person on Tuesday night, and I can honestly say I was more impressed after. I knew going in their offense was impressive, but I walked away think their defense was much better than I believed they were. Controlled the line of scrimmage and rushed the passer well. Only thing I was is the secondary, which was pretty good, was not as athletic as I thought they would be, and they were stubborn not to adjust coverage to our 1 obvious threat

Justafan56 was at that Raleigh vs. Asheville game.

I'm just glad we are back to one champion.....it should have never gone to multiple Champs. Did the coaches vote on one champ or did the association change it ?

But almost lost to RS
Something tells me you weren't at the game. They got up 2 or 3 scores and let their foot off the gas in that game. RS is not a bad team. Just very undisciplined. Great athletes though. I certainly hope that's not the barometer you used to judge this team though haha.

I still like Reidsville to win the West. They have talent even though they are young. Flippin will be tough to defend. Has blazing speed. Lee at QB has a big time arm. He's only going to get better.

Maybe Otis, just maybe on Reidsville winning the West primarily because this Rams edition does not have a stud on either the defensive line or at linebacker that the past five teams have had.

On the positive side, teams will be shocked at the speed of the Reidsville WRs and the play of SO QB Lee. He is just getting better and better each game. And Reidsville coaches know what they are doing and can make in game adjustments that can win games.

The Rams will have trouble with teams like Chase or Hendersonville that have power running games

Going to be a great playoffs year!!

I think watlington is better than any mlb that we had last season.

Dax and Jack love VT , the school, the area and atmosphere. Dax says he's not concerned with coaching switch...
So maybe kid just loved those things.

Dax wouldn't be on my team or around my campus, that kid is a toxic fire.......

Guess that's your opinion, smart player and kid, works harder then anyone I've ever seen . Honorable mention in Acc on defense.
