Grimsley vs Charlotte Catholic 11/29

CCHS by 10.
OK. I am a Catholic partisan but I want some of what you're smoking. Definitely some strong stuff. A lot of things will have to go right for Catholic and wrong for Grimsley but I have seen some crazy stuff over the years. Grimsley, Hough and Weddington are head and shoulders above the rest of the state in 4A but if they bring their B game, they could very easily go home to turn in their equipment until the next season. The one certainty is that the Cougars will show up.

You guys probably need to score 35+ to win, Grimsley has an incredible offense led by the number 1 junior QB in the country and a stud rb who feasts when teams try to stop the passing game. Grimsley’s defense can be had though and if you have long drives that end in points then it will be a good ballgame. It’s a tall task to force the whirlies to punt

Catholic will have to take the air out of the game with long methodical drives that limit Grimsley's possessions. Will need a couple of turnovers too. This alone can drive a high octane offense crazy and cause them to press. Catholic played a Havelock team loaded with D1 prospects a few years ago that averaged 60 points a game. They had a big goose egg on the scoreboard at half and it psychologically messed with their heads. They had never been in a close dog fight the entire season and couldn't cope. Catholic will need to keep it close and either be ahead or in striking range in the 4th quarter. They have the style of play that can keep them in the game. The question is do they have enough horses. Grimsley has plenty.

Weddington ?????? Grimsley will be a tough one, but to put Weddington on the same level as Grimsley & Hough this year is really reaching. I just don’t see it. Butler is definitely best 4-7 team in the State, they gave Weddington lot’s of trouble. Weddington is EF without the QB. That bracket they’re in, is to die for. I’m pulling for CC

You could’ve just said they were on the same level as EF. It can go both ways because you can easily say EF is Weddington without the defense. I still would pick Weddington to beat EF if they played. I believe as long as they don’t have a melt down they usually have that Hough is the clear favorite in the west. Grimsley is also vunerable and I don’t think they have enough this year. I would put Weddington on the same level as Grimsley. Both teams are well coached, very good but also not the same teams from a year ago regardless of the overall records.

I think this will turn into a ball control game. Cold, windy and wet are all distinct possibilities for Friday (7 pm start btw). Just think Grimsley’s offense is more efficient and CC’s are a bit too run dependent. Super 3rd round matchup, though and definitely a four quarter game.

If Catholic can sustain long drives and capitalize on any defensive lapses, they could certainly put themselves in a position to win. Remember last year’s playoff game when a team managed to exploit Grimsley’s secondary with quick, short passes and consistent runs? It’s a strategy that could pay off if executed properly.

I guess the question is, can Catholic's defense step up? And if they can, will their own offense be able to keep pace?

I like Grimsley by 3 TDs
If they played 10 times, that might be the average. Catholic's style, approach and discipline are a pain in the ass for any team to prepare for. If they have enough horses to execute their game plan, they could frustrate Grimsley and make the one game they play very interesting. Grimsley definitely has the horses.

Grimsley had a strong run last season, but with the changes in their roster and key players, it seems they might not have the same edge. Weddington and Grimsley both have well-coached teams, but it's true that neither is quite as dominant as they were in previous years.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Porter Ridge go up there and knock them off or at least scare the heck out of them a few years ago? I bring that up because PR was a triple option team - a scheme that’s difficult to prepare for and levels the playing field - athletically. Not that CC is an option team, but run a scheme that’s somewhat negates an athletic disadvantage. I’m just sayin’, hardly a forgone conclusion in this one.

Grimsley is better this year imo. QB is better they have a better defense as well. Bryce Davis missed the playoffs last year, monster 4star DE. What makes you say they aren’t as dominant? The only game that was a 30+ point blowout was the game against the best team in the east Rolesville, they won by 15. Problem is Hough is better as well

They certainly have struggled against the triple option the past 4 years. Beat Catholic cause they outscored them, lost a major upset to Porter Ridge and lost to New Bern in the State Championship game

28-7 Grimsley at the Half. Catholic converted 2 4th downs on the opening possession of game and took 9 mins off the clock. Grimsley 28 unanswered after that. 4 possessions 4 touchdowns
