Butler vs Charlotte Catholic 10/18

Really wish we could see this butler team healthy but it doesn’t seem like we will get that chance. The JV 3rd string QB just doesn’t have what it takes right now and is limiting the offense. Got you thinking, they also need a QB next season.

Any chance Catholic is the the same conference next season? Really hope Catholic can stay with butler and Indy, it’s been fun to watch.
We saw them healthy the first 3-4 weeks of the season. Lawrence was out against Richmond. They were what their record said they were. The offensive scheme didn’t match their personnel in my opinion. Defensively their front seven isn’t as talented as they were the last five years and they weren’t buttoned up. They were extremely undisciplined especially with the personnel foul penalties that really hurt them against Irmo and Weddington.

Butler could have been a dangerous team if they were healthy and the top teams overlooked them. I don’t get 2023 Indy vibes where they were underseeded but made a run.

Can’t argue that. I just thought since the staff came in super late, basically june, it was going to be rough at first with that schedule. Wanted to see how Ferebee and his staff progressed the team gradually but I feel they never got that full opportunity. Still, the front 7 is weak like you said. The front 4 should have been real dominant this season with many seniors but they didn’t show up like I thought. I also think they are playing some kids out of position. #4 should play corner, not safety. #32 should’ve never played corner. #20 should’ve played over #42 this season in my opinion. I will always end the statement saying I am only a “fan” though, not a coach 🤷🏾‍♂️

I'm not a coach either, but it’s tough to build that chemistry and understanding within such a short time frame. I also share your concerns about the front 7; with so many experienced seniors, I believe people expected a lot more dominance upfront. It’s frustrating to see that potential go untapped.

You make a solid point about player positioning too. Sometimes it feels like players are being asked to fit into roles that don’t maximize their strengths. For instance, moving #4 to corner could potentially shore up that position significantly, given his athleticism and skill set. Similarly, #32’s struggles at corner seem to highlight a mismatch in expectations versus performance.

With #20 potentially being a stronger fit than #42, it raises the question of whether the coaching staff is prioritizing experience over potential. It’s always a tricky balance, but it seems like some of these decisions could be reevaluated to better support the team’s overall effectiveness.

With that being said, what do you think would be the best approach moving forward?

Butter has never not been good. 🤷🏾‍♂️
Continuity in coaching matters. Butler had the tradition of hiring from within. Shuford to Newsome to Hales then fill in the gaps with good assistants.

Butler had some lean years in regard to talent but looked much better than this group who has some really good talent especially on offense.

Knowing coaches on the previous staff, based on their opinion, Butler was a contender for the Ship this year.
