First draft of realignment

We used to have one championship event for wrestling and track with no classifications. If you won a wrestling weight class or a track event, then you were the state champion and any school who got the most points at that event won the state championship. The NCHSAA went away from that to give more kids and schools the opportunity to compete and that's all we'd be doing by subdividing in all sports. There's no good reason not to as more communities would have the chance to brag about their kids winning a state championship in whatever sport.
Until everyone has a trophy and there is nothing to brag about

When was that?
When I graduated high school (almost 40 years ago) there was only one state champion in wrestling per weight class. I know that because my younger brother wrestled and a kid from our school won the championship. He asked me to drive him down there to watch (it was somewhere in Greensboro).
The NCHSAA track record book is online somewhere and it shows when the last year they had a consolidated track championship. I think it was about the same time frame, but I don't really remember.

While I agree that everyone should not get a trophy and that that type culture is cancerous, going from 4 state champions out of 440+ schools to 8 state champions isn't a bad thing or a "everyone gets a trophy" thing.

Both can be true at the same time.

4 classifications was fine if you split playoffs into small and big. it makes conferences easier to group but allows larger and smaller schools to be separated as they need to be. 8 was a large jump but it is better than the 4
We had that not too long ago with the A/AA playoffs. Everybody hated it. It was still 8 state champions. B

It’s looking like we are going to have to keep on putting up with each other!! I’m glad. I like playing you guys.

We've been evenly matched the last 2 seasons. Instant classic games that we were VERY lucky to win. Neither team was better than the other.

Tarboro football fans should be happy. They will still dominate the conference, but hopefully get better games to watch.
Oh yeah! From a football perspective, that conference is all we could ask for. Every other sport in Tarboro is an afterthought to football anyway. It will be nice to see more competitive conference games, more visiting fans in the stands. The regular season hasn’t had the juice we want in about 10 years. Bring it on!
