Midway @ Spring Creek - Midway wins. This doesn’t do anything to help them prepare for conference but they finish the non-conference at a shocking 5-0. Midway 77 Spring Creek 6

East Duplin @ Hertford County - looks like this could be a good football game. Just by looking at who HC has played and the travel ED has to deal with I’ll say East Duplin finishes the non-conference at a even 3-3. Hertford County 33 East Duplin 18

Goldsboro vs. Beddingfield - Goldsboro has had a tough few weeks but I think they close out the non-conference with a hard earned W to enter conference play at 3-3. Goldsboro 24 Beddingfield 20

GAME OF THE WEEK (2 games)

Wouldn’t be fair to Clinton because they have a big game as well

Clinton @ Central Cabarrus - a long trip for the Dark Horses but I like their chances in this one. Clinton remains undefeated 4-0 and Kaba has a GAME. Clinton 34 Central Cabaruss 12

WRH @ Wake Forest - this game has been hyped for months not much to say other than WRH has the potential to pull a upset if WF overlooks them. Final score will be a surprise. Wallace takes their second L of the season and finishes non-conference at 4-2. Wake Forest 34 WRH 28

I like your picks except for one. I think the Hertford Co - East Duplin game will be closer. I don’t think HC is any better than the Jacksonville team we faced earlier in the season. 24-21 ED

Wiz...I know WRH will go up there and try to win but with at least 3 starters (last I heard) out, we will be very fortunate to stay within 3 tds. WF has almost 4 times the students to chose from than WRH has. There is a very slight possibility that we can keep it somewhat close in the first half but the second half it’s probably gonna get ugly, even if we had those starters. I just hope we can come out of his game with no more added injuries going forward into conference play.

HC-think this will be a good game HC seems to have a pretty balanced offensive attack could be the difference depending on how East defends
Wilson Beddingfield-Really depends on which Goldsboro team shows up wouldnt surprise me if they pulled it off but i think the Bruins win a close one
Clinton-Not really concerned about the 2A vs 3A depth discussion onky concerned about potential slow start after riding on a activity bus for 3 hours i think well be able to run the ball effectively behind that big offensive line and Kaba,Cruise,Westerbeek,Wilson,Smith led defense makes stops when needed and gives us some short fields to work with.
Wake Forest- But wouldnt mind seeing the Dogs go up there and pull off the upset...too often our part of the state gets disrespected because of our style of play so it would be nice to see WRH go up there and shut up some critics

I just wish conference play could start so Midway and JK could play someone with a pulse instead of a bunch of tomato cans. Clinton ups the ante a little this week with their game and Goldsboro is who we (at least I) thought they were. Wallace and ED both have big challenges.

WF 41 WRH 20.....numbers game here in the second half
HC 34 ED 24...….ED struggles with offenses that spread it out. Saw them play Jville and SW and they are limited athletically and size wise. Based on HC results, they can score on anyone
Clinton 20 CC 14......Defense is too tough. Not sure how good CC is. As long as practices have been closed to the public the Ponies will probably prevail.

Midway 55 SC 6......If I were Midway, I wouldn't have agreed to this game. SC didn't want to be in conference due to not being able to compete yet they still will play Midway? Id be pissed they even asked to still play. Makes no sense.
Beddingfield 22 Gboro 13......Goldsboro not very good and Bfield has played some quality opponents.

Looking forward to conference play. Seems to me some teams are padding their non conference schedules hoping to help their MaxPreps ratings....Midway, JK.....

The issue you have is I don't heap unwarranted praise on Clinton even though I picked you guys to win this week.

Considering how tough the conference is that we play in it is very safe to say JK will have its fair share of tough opponents before the end of the season, we are in a conference where two teams have a very good chance of making it to the state championship, I don’t know of many other conferences in the state that can say that. JK is not on the level of Clinton and WRH and right now we can’t schedule like them. It would make zero sense to schedule games against teams that will likely make it to the 3rd 4th round this season. What benefit does JK receive from playing those games? I’ll answer that ... none. We lose the game and by the time conference starts we would have lost half of our starters all for what? To be able to say we are 1-4? The boys learn nothing from that. Neither school gains anything from that. Has JK played a schedule that prepares them for conference. I’ll go ahead and say yes. It’s much better for the team going into conference play close to full health having played against decent competition and learning how to win a few games versus going out and getting the life beat out of us for 5 weeks. Obviously we know the games are about to get tougher but at least this extremely young group has had a chance to get their feet wet instead of getting demolished 100-0 by WRH again to start season. JK is in a complete rebuild and I am glad we are scheduling the way we are.

About like I expected. Check my predictions and the actual scores. Pretty close.

I thought the Dogs really played well but as I mentioned, its a numbers game. Combined that with WF not seeing a wing-t offense very often and I thought it might be tight for three quarters.

Talked to someone close to the ED program today. Said that they were up 21-13 midway through the 3rd and then the wheels came off. Hertford hurt them in the second half moreso running than throwing. He was really impressed with Hertford in second half and thought they were actually better than Jacksonville.

Midway is undefeated but haven't played anyone with a pulse yet.

JK did what they had to do as they try and build a program (and help MaxPreps rating) in defeating Lakewood. Will be interesting to see how they progress this year.

I sure missed on Clinton. Dang, I thought Boogie, Kaba and the rest of the band would handle CC. Based on other posts from the die hards it seems it was the same Achilles heel, penalties and turnovers and we all know some teams have a very small margin for error in those areas. Havent heard if the security at practice was breeched but stay tuned.

Maybe Gboro and Beddingfield got their game in tonight so I can get a better feel on my picks next week. Heck, I might even go to Jville and see Northside and Clinton.
