Both QB’s for the JV teams are really good. The future looks really good next few years for both teams. Great running QB’s
I hope we are heading towards an early 2000s era of football when teams like Elkin, East Surry, Mount Airy, Starmount, and Surry Central could beat each other any given night. Maybe the Rams, Cardinals, and Bears are about to give us this. Hopefully they stay together in a conference.
It's almost like those Mt. Arrogant folks keep discussion going on 1A boards....
I didn't see the game, so I don't have much to say about it. Score is about what you might expect if you do the ole this team beat that team by this much and that one beat the other by this much. First half looked to be a good match up and wearing down and mistakes started showing up in the 2nd. Seems to happen more in 1A without the depth. I don't expect there will be many good or close games for Mount Airy, Starmount, or East Wilkes for the rest of the year barring injuries, so that's probably the conference 1,2,3 with playoffs set. Seeding should be interesting. That second round matchup that will face Starmount and East Wilkes due to seeding rules have a handful coming their way. It wouldn't be a surprise to see all three in the 3rd round.

I thought it was a great game and what the Rams needed. East reminds me of what I see when I watch SMC teams, they don't do much on offense but what they do they do well. It seemed to me that either Starmount wasn't taking them seriously the first half or took some time to get used to that offense East ran. The defense had a very noticeable difference in the second half, much more aggressive and physical. On one play in the first half it looked like the Rams had a player surrounded and stopped only for him to somehow run free. Everybody just kind of froze and watched. All in all it was a great game by both teams and look forward to seeing them both succeed in the playoffs.
Great game , one mistake by the qb decided the game. Outside of that this was an evenly matched game. Flag the refs picked up in the 4th didn’t follow the play close enough to have an opinion. Was watching the play develop down field. But I will say that if you throw it , you seen it and in that situation that was the straw that broke the cardinals back. Took a lot of gumption to pick that flag up. Impressed with both teams , very even matchup. First time seeing either of these teams this year. Glad we chose this game over Walkertown and Reidsville. Both qbs are legit. Collin’s kid is Starmount, hope he stays upright for a playoff run. Backs for East run it HARD. Still trying to find the ball on that first East score. Qb hid it well. Good luck to both the rest of the way. Great to see three teams from the Nw1a with 3 teams that can not only play with, but beat any team in the west.
Heck of a ball game. The fumble costed us the game as turnovers most of the time do in close ball games. I was afraid of us not being able to defend the pass or generate any kind of pass rush. Hats off to Starmount for a great game and good luck the rest of the year.
Glad to see 3 teams in this conference all within striking distance of each other, the playoffs could be fun for the NW1A.

Three of us Mt Airy Fans were at the game. Sat on the 45 yard line. The fumble was very important in deciding the game but not the only thing. In my opinion Starmount has a little more talent and depth. Not much but enough on the line to let their QB do his thing.
But the officials decided this game, in my opinion. Not by the calls they made, BUT by the calls they did not make. I bet their were 10 or more hits or shoves in the back by Starmount that were clear and obvious but not called. Two different flags picked up when their were 2 or more flags laying on the field and the White Hat over ruled. One was an illegal Lineman down field by a good 10 yards. Flags picked up and no call.
On one kickoff, one of the Starmount players was 1 1/2 yards past the line when the ball was kicked. No call. Just another example.
This was a game of inches and the officials made it a game of yards to the benefit of Starmount.

That was happening back in the 1990s when I was on the sideline taking pictures, the Refs were just as bad to call a one-sided game every time I was at Starmount and I saw the down markers moved in their favor also. I told one of the coaches and he talked to a Ref that caught them and had a few words with them. Not blaming the team just the Refs that mostly covered the Starmount games.
There has been several posts on here about the game but I was not there to see what they said was happening but I know what I saw several times in the 90s and some as close as 5 yards from me. I don't see why the ones who posted what they saw Friday night would be lying. I think I read 3 or 4 posts saying the white hat and bad calls. Hearing this brought back memories of my being on the sideline in the 90s. Refs are human and can make bad calls and some may call something that could go either way and some may call nothing. Also if a Ref gets overruled and the flag is called off, who was at fault ! Other than the South Stokes game Mount Airy has had their share of flags for 3 or 4 games before South Stokes. So there you go DeacsnRams. I do not care if you believe what I say because I was there in the 90s, were you !
Personally I got caught up in the play down field so I didn't pay any attention. I still think Starmount defense showed up 2nd half and shut us down. The fumble didn't help matters. The offense could have performed better 2nd half.
The play that was picked up sure looked like the lineman were way down the field. Should of come back, but it could be said that he was behind the line. Starmount and East are physical and capable of playing with MA on a bad night for the bears. But not really on a bears squad that is firing. 1 is the rams you are it and he plays noticeably diff when not playing against 22 and 21. Hope they can keep him healthy. Although jv kid is a bad dude but more of the same it appears. Although ma has some work to do there too. Tough to play in granite ville. Eastern Randolph Murphy and Heritage still above the rest of the NW from what I have seen.
I know them personally, they told me in the locker room before they came out that they were going to cheat for Starmount. 😀🫢😂
So that makes you one of them and there was only one making most of the bad calls.
I'm not sure what Starmount is doing with the kicking game. On kickoffs they usually use a different kid than the place kicker.
On punting they don't let Collins really punt the ball. It was like that in the Mt Airy game too which I understand that they're trying to keep it away from #4. Those booming punts are what many of us love to see. Pregame is about the only time we get to see it. I've seen him consistently punt it 65 yards in the air 4.5-5 second hangtime. He worked out with former North Surry and current LA Rams punter Ethan Evans over the summer.
