CVAC 2025

For clarity, I'll take your reply one paragraph at a time, starting here: You created your own disagreement. Originally, you had tenderly asked, "Is there an eastern foothills?" My answer was etymologically and geographically (I use these two terms as qualifiers), yes... I would cite the definition of the word Piedmont. Either dictionary should bear me out on this.
This is the excerpt from my answer "To answer your question, though, I say yes, there is geographically and etymologically speaking an eastern foothills, namely those Piedmont counties just west of the Fall Line/ NC Costal Plain. Granted, it's flatter than what we think of foothills as being but generally some rise in elevation if someone is going from counties east of the fall line to. counties west of it... You suggested that I said it was the same thing. That was not said...You headed up the first paragraph by citing the difference between squares and rectangles and how one couldn't be the other but as you know, even a rectangle has four sides.

In your second paragraph, you made reference to The Sandhills and Tidewater areas. I suppose this was mentioned to point out that specific areas have certain labels, but I'd have to refer back to your original question, "Is there an eastern foothills", and again I would argue that based on the meaning of the word Piedmont, and a gradual but slight, and sometimes intermittent rise in elevation, yes, it could be argued that there is an eastern foothills based on this.

On your last paragraph, yes, I think that's fair, the line you laid out, but since you mentioned geology, let me point out something else that could go to my argument of an eastern foothills. The NC Fall Line which ends the piedmont and begins the coastal plain, is not simply an imaginary line, but a drop-off, in which the land begins its descent towards the coast. There is a difference in elevation, granted that it could be slight in some places, but generally, there is a decline in elevation. This rise is generally west but it can be northward, too, considering your rectangle which is a similar shape of the NC Piedmont.

Early on in my answer to your question "Is there an eastern foothills?" it was mentioned that I had never heard of it, but for the sake of technicality, yes, I do believe an argument could be made for it considering what two qualifiers I used.
I yield!

Lay off the Wolves, there, Lone Ranger. You're leading with your chin, again. We're not the ones being scrutinized. Ask your Catawba County neighbors.
All quiet on the Western front 🤣. Not really hearing much wind talking 🤣. And for your winded opinions above, can't u be like current judges and make a ruling opinion based off Hamilton the musical 🤣🤣

Yeah, I heard about that. You mentioned Hamilton, didn't know you like the theater...Always wondered how two men could stand ten yards apart, then fire at each other. Glad I didn't live back then, course, I wouldn't have had anything to worry about since dueling was for men of wealth and high social standing. I would have been considered a plebian. That's a euphemism for low-life, so dueling would have been ruled out for me.
You know, if were miracled back to 1800, and if someone challenged me to a duel, then said, "What is your choice of weapons," think I would have asked, "If would throwing pies be a little out of line."

Agree, fairly vociferously.

Thank you, my friend and neighbor...Got to tell you, though, after making this argument I got a warning that if I ever made another post like it on this site I would be banned for life, and that at least two posters had to seek medical attention for what was diagnosed as chronic boredom...On the up side I was contact by a fellow poster who thanked me and said that for almost a month he had suffered from insomnia so badly that he didn't even respond to strong drugs, but after reading my justification for an eastern foothills he slept for a solid 48 hours and that was without even getting up to p!$$... Sometimes, I think us Lincolnton guys are just misunderstood.

Oh come on. You're too loved...no one would gripe about anything to/about you save AMD out of brotherly ribbing love.

I wanted to keep our back and forth going...but yielded...you see, on these daggum contraptions we use, you cannot, in anyway, unless you are extremely familiar with someone, assume someone's tone.

You can read it, read it again in a different tone, read it again meshing the two tones, then rack your brain on which one they used, then reply as best you can.

...if I had rebuttaled, my tone would have gone off the rails, I'm too competitive...and you my friend, are wise beyond my years and someone I would take pride in a competitive mental back and forth with.

I cannot in good conscience risk a perception of myself being cross with you. Wouldn't sit right. You deserve more, and if I can't mold my thoughts into the right tone, then I shall yield.

GDevil, you, to me are a dear friend and I couldn’t imagine what it would take to make me have a falling out with you.
Thank you for the kind comments, you make an old man feel special, but I know if it came to a real match of cerebral fencing that you would leave me in the dust…Don’t worry about the tone, I spent the last half century getting used to that…Like you, I’m a little ambitious when it comes to shaping a point of view. Thanks again.

I'm getting to soft in my years I had a funny GIF to post for this little love fest 😂 but I deleted it 🤦🏼‍♂️

Scratch that...HSOT is reporting that because there was already a Western Foothills conference that our conference would be selecting a new name.

Seems there were numerous "Mid-State" conferences and some will have to change.

Hoping we reclaim the CVAC name.
Yes, GrizzlyDevil, a good solid name for a conference is important. As far back as I recall the conferences we were in mostly (maybe not all) had some geographical name like Western Piedmont, or Southwestern conference. Sure, these are ok, but I like the attractive names such as Catawba Valley or more recently The Swine Valley, down east.

It occurred to me if you want to make some headway with those down at the athletic association you have to speak up. How else could a conference be named swine valley without causing an uproar.

Recently, I sat down and penned a letter to them asking for a new conference name in 2029, knowing that our new conference name is etched in stone, until then, and too, I decided to go a step farther by suggesting a new and exciting re-alignment for games during the 2029 season.

Look, we around here don't have to travel very far to play our competition, unlike some of the teams down east who have to travel many miles, many times during the season. Now, don't misunderstand me, I like playing nearby teams because of the rivalry it makes for, but I believe it would be nice if we created a conference that would permit playing some teams that are at a reasonable distance.

I went on to suggest that a conference be created, next time, that would say, spread out maybe east and west of here, like maybe three or four counties away, making us the center (Just for example). Those counties I suggested could comprise this proposed conference could be:

-Stanly
-Cleveland
-Union
-McDowell
-Lincoln
-Iredell

This would allow for the nearby rivalries and then let teams play someone that's a ways off. Yes, Stanly County might be pushing it a little but it's only 75-80 miles and shouldn't pose a problem. Something else, out of these counties are a number of schools including charter schools, so conference games could be matched up according to enrollment. For larger/smaller teams, divisions could be created within these conferences.

Finally, we could give this conference a name that would really stand out. Frankly, I've always thought Chase had a good idea when they created the name of their schools by taking letters from each of the communities that the the school would draw from. All would be needed is someone good at scrabble who could come up with a name from the letters of these counties, so why not do it for a conference ? I know they could come up with something better than Swine Valley, GMADB here.
Yeah, Yeah Yeah the NCHSAA likes geographical names D-U-L-L, but if they insist, I suggested Southwest Carolina Athletic Group. Sounds official, I'd think.

Being pretty old, if I can stay out of Hollybrook (It's a Lincolnton thing) until 2029, at some point between now and then, my next suggestion will be the possibility of conference commissioners who can promote their conferences and sell commercials and such, since NIL has been permitted, along with allowing conferences to expand, you know, like the ACC, Big 10 and SEC. Wouldn't hurt to try.

Postscript: In case you're wondering, I have heard back from those who make these decisions and it wasn't encouraging. Have to say, based on the language they used, sounds like they're taking the narrow view about this thing.

We don't know yet how they'll separate East/West or how they'll seed schools. The cleanest way is to take the top 48 schools according to RPI finish. Then separate them based off longitude like they use to, then seed the top 24 East/West.

I did that with the new 4A class and this is what that playoff field would look like using this year's RPI.
