Y’all see a football schedule….while I’m looking at a list of eating joints.

Let’s see….where am I’m eating at in Asheville next year. 😂

There’s “Smokey and the Pig”, “ The Local Joint”, “Juicy Lucy Bar and Grill”….and there’s breweries too!

Sheeiitt!….is too soon?😂

That first game against Lincolnton….have mercy….I’m telling you…..Lincolnton has some great restaurants.

Can’t wait!

Loving this schedule. Grizz

Boom Devils! Baby!

Mi Casa! It’s pretty good….I've tried it once.

However….I’m loyal to the sombrero wearing Colonel Sanders at Tres Hermano’s….coldest Dos Equis in town.

I like all the restaurants in Maiden…I’m sure you have been to all of them as well…sooo….you wouldn’t be disappointed at any of them.

You can’t go wrong in Hickory….they have it all and most places are very good.

Can’t wait to see those Rockets!😉

I'm curious who will be their A/B gap running back now
No idea. Now that it’s track season I hadn’t seen any speedsters on NL team result sheet wise that’s made some marks and don’t know who they had on JVs last year carrying the rock. Wingate is already running for Maiden and looks to be as fast as last year. I couldn’t expect less than conf champs and 3 rounds out of Maiden with him behind the line ready to run through the trenches with all the rest that’s coming back I’m sure.

And pretty much last years JV team of North has to face him this fall. Emotional game coming but I’m sure they’ll all hug and talk with Wingate before and after the game.

With us Wingate will get to the outside and get used in screen pass game. I feel like he will be lethal in the screen pass

Western Foothills 4A/5A is new conference name per news article.
Flyrod, the name Catawba Valley was special, or at least I thought so, and it was a moniker most teams, there, would have preferred to keep; but it makes me wonder if something didn’t happen that resulted in a name change to a dull, tired handle like Western Foothills.

You know, thinking on it, and if I were asked to guess, I’d say that AMD might have sent the powers that be a series of really negative emails, insinuating pedigrees rather than family trees. LOL, that’ll do it every time. Way to go AMD.
Course, it could have been worse, the Lincoln County team wanted to name it the Catamaran conference.

Dull indeed...Western? Is there an Eastern Foothills in NC? We are neither northern or Southern...Mid-Foothills?

There is also a Western Foothills 3A/4A...even more bland to all the senses.

Now here's a name! Swine Valley 2A/3A out east. Creek's mouth won't stop watering over that.

What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet! Shakespeare had it right! With five teams from the old Western Foothill 3A the majority will rule. You are in a bigger conference now! It means a thing's essence remains the same regardless of the name.

Ohhhh yeah...majority rule....when 3 Wolves and 2 sheep vote for what should be for dinner. I vote we take the electoral college approach...at least we'll be fairly represented!

I guess it depends on which majority stands together...the other majority would be the Catawba County teams calling it the CVAC...Hickory was apart of the 2A/3A CVAC my senior year.

Now GrizzlyDevil, You asked "Is there an eastern foothills?" Pretty sure the word Piedmont is from a French word or term that means foothills or the foot of the mountains or something similar. I've always heard that the Piedmont ends at the fall line where the coastal plain begins. On a map it looks like The NC Piedmont covers a broad expanse, roughly from Hickory, east to Raleigh, and from Virginia to South Carolina between these two points, but running from northeast to southwest within NC. Got a feeling you've heard/seen this many times, but for a reason I wanted to mention it.

Here, most of us think of the foothills as the counties not far to the east of the mountains, and that's correct. I've heard the term western foothills used, but never eastern foothills, which might be because of our proximity to the mountains...To answer your question, though, I say yes, there is geographically and etymologically speaking an eastern foothills, namely those Piedmont counties just west of the Fall Line/ NC Costal Plain. Granted, it's flatter than what we think of foothills as being but generally some rise in elevation if someone is going from counties east of the fall line to counties west of it.

Kidd has told us for years that there is an Eastern Foothills….the Uwharrie Mountains.

Legend has it that the Uwharries once stood at 20,000 feet high, near the coast, 500 million years ago.

Who knew?

I’m good with…”Western Foothills” conference…sounds kinda like “Pasture Ball”…if you ask me.😜

Boom! Devils baby

Can’t wait for week 1! 😉

Love the new conference EB is in. should be a lot of wins maybe compared to the old conference!! They added Foard and West Iredell to the non-conference also even better chance for more wins!!
Foard actually has some talent coming through as long as Lincolnton doesn't poach it 🤣🤣

I agree that the Piedmont is as you stated, though Oxford pulls from the Italian: Piemonte. However, I disagree that the Foothills are the same thing. Though the Piedmont may stretch from the base of the mountains to the fall line/coastal plains, The Foothills is a specific area: a distinct lower part of a mountain(s) - singular; a hill that leads up to a mountain. I will concede that the Foothills are a part of the Piedmont region, but would argue that it is the western most part of the Piedmont. (Squares can be rectangles, but rectangles can't be squares.)

A very similar argument could be made out east for the Sandhills in the Coastal Plains. There would also be some people out there that would argue that there is a Tidewater Region that should be separated from the "Inner" Coastal Plains. But yes, there are 3 main geographical areas, historically.

Geologically speaking, I would say the line for the foothills falls between the established western line that goes through the western half of Polk, Rutherford, Burke, Caldwell, Wilkes, and Surry counties and my perceived eastern line going through half of Cleveland, Western most part of Lincoln, half of Catawba, northwestern most part of Iredell, most of northern Forsyth and most of west and north Rockingham.

For clarity, I'll take your reply one paragraph at a time, starting here: You created your own disagreement. Originally, you had tenderly asked, "Is there an eastern foothills?" My answer was etymologically and geographically (I use these two terms as qualifiers), yes... I would cite the definition of the word Piedmont. Either dictionary should bear me out on this.
This is the excerpt from my answer "To answer your question, though, I say yes, there is geographically and etymologically speaking an eastern foothills, namely those Piedmont counties just west of the Fall Line/ NC Costal Plain. Granted, it's flatter than what we think of foothills as being but generally some rise in elevation if someone is going from counties east of the fall line to. counties west of it... You suggested that I said it was the same thing. That was not said...You headed up the first paragraph by citing the difference between squares and rectangles and how one couldn't be the other but as you know, even a rectangle has four sides.

In your second paragraph, you made reference to The Sandhills and Tidewater areas. I suppose this was mentioned to point out that specific areas have certain labels, but I'd have to refer back to your original question, "Is there an eastern foothills", and again I would argue that based on the meaning of the word Piedmont, and a gradual but slight, and sometimes intermittent rise in elevation, yes, it could be argued that there is an eastern foothills based on this.

On your last paragraph, yes, I think that's fair, the line you laid out, but since you mentioned geology, let me point out something else that could go to my argument of an eastern foothills. The NC Fall Line which ends the piedmont and begins the coastal plain, is not simply an imaginary line, but a drop-off, in which the land begins its descent towards the coast. There is a difference in elevation, granted that it could be slight in some places, but generally, there is a decline in elevation. This rise is generally west but it can be northward, too, considering your rectangle which is a similar shape of the NC Piedmont.

Early on in my answer to your question "Is there an eastern foothills?" it was mentioned that I had never heard of it, but for the sake of technicality, yes, I do believe an argument could be made for it considering what two qualifiers I used.
