I’ve heard that Maiden boys and girls basketball teams are playing tonight at East Burke. Yep!…Thursday night.

Response #1= maiden rule, what we call it. Anytime a new kid shows up in a school at Catawba county, first thing u get an affidavit to sign saying the enrollment isn't sport related. I had to sign one for my niece who moved in with us for maiden middle school. Next if that student is an athlete there is a home inspection done to make sure that student is living in said address. That's the maiden rule
Response #2 Lincoln county allows a student one free transfer as long as transportation is provided. Which I'm fighting for in Catawba county with new school board people I know.
Response #3 I actually like hinson hope he does well. He knew the student was moving before hand. So no sour grapes with him I suppose. I do believe he's got a rebuild coming not sure if more players leave if anymore I don't see it being more than 2-3

From what I am reading on here it almost seems like AMD and Maiden in general are really good at politicking or just politics in general. Not a shot at Maiden or anybody on here, but this is crazy all over 1 kids choice to transfer to another school. I maybe in the majority and maybe I'm not, but never liked a kid leaving his or her school to go elsewhere but that's the kids choice as well as the families to do what's best for themselves and the child.
Why make families fudge the truth on an affidavit, when its (almost) always "sports related", lol. Maybe I'm agreeing with one of AMD's points, I'm not sure🤷🏻.

@AlwaysAWolf I'm tagging you because I can't reply to both at one time lol. Unfortunately it was a bad choice of words for the X post. Kids watch these college players and professional players now and pick up bad habits. College football has normalized the word transfer portal in these kids learn that. He did not transfer he moved residences to Maiden. And then hickory daily record or as I call it Winston-Salem daily record picked up on that word transfer and went with it in the article. But the kid and family actually has moved into Maiden
Wingate Sr is a Maiden guy and played here for Tom. From what I understand this move has been their plan for a few years now, and the family was wanting to do it much sooner. They just had a difficult time finding housing for the family until recently. Having enough rooms at the right price.
Wingate SR. Was a year behind me in high school ultimately this is more of an issue of lack of housing in the maiden area where people who want to live in this area who grew up in this area can't find adequate housing to stay in the area.
I accept that, lol. But I wont stretch my brain to believe it wasnt football related. I know the affidavit says so, but Im saying that rule just makes people 'stretch the truth'. I'm assuming it makes admin feel good, but the kids know better, and enter a pact to deny the truth. That headline and quote looks bad for Rule #1. (Which Im not saying was broken)
I think the letter was followed, and the spirit not. And I think Catawba County should just stop pretending. A few years ago, my neighbor came up there mad, signed an affidavit, played and graduated and never left the shadow of our school.
Schools are playing by a rule that makes them feel better. If residence doesn't matter, maybe we dont make the kids part of an elaborate scheme.
🧩S move every year for a variety of reasons. Some are looking for a roof over their head. Some are looking for exposure, revenge, or a ring. We've benefitted from both, as has most of the teams on here.

I can definitely attest to the years of looking for the right place. And this is just my opinion nobody tied into the organization opinion. But the whole Maiden rule and bull shit that goes along with it can be attributed to Bunker Hill and let's say alumni that's positioned in county office. That's why I'm pushing for open school choice that kids attend the school at better fits their needs including education. And let's make these other schools start holding themselves accountable to be better
I don't know the kid or the family I cannot make any preconceived notions my brother knows the kid and the family and likes the father from what I was told by him. I agree here with AlwaysAWolf it's definitely about athletics and I disagree here it is a young man who transfered! If he was at another school and left that school to go elsewhere then he transfered, at the end of the day it's his and families choice but it still is a transfer!!
Buncombe County is trying to go that route, and may have I don't know I don't venture that way much but there was talk in doing it there and I have no issues with School Choice but if it's more to Maiden about winning around Catawba County and there conference in Football or basketball or in any other sports than who is benefitting academically??
Then you haven't seen the academics of some of these schools around here. Second there's a kid but will not mention his name attending a city school who at this point is on the verge of harassment from staff and students who cannot leave and go anywhere else because of district lines. And lastly a transfer is a kid who leaves to go to another school while maintaining his residence prior to that. A family that moves to a totally different residence in a different County is not a transfer. That's called a life situation for a family moves to improve their life outcome. I will readily agree that any kid who gets permission to attend the school while living in another area is a transfer I just deny the definition of calling this a transfer

ITS A TRANSFER!!!! I did say that’s the kids choice and his families obviously but let me you ask this??? Did he go to another school before going to your school? If he did not than it's not obviously!! But, if he left and key word is left that school and is attending another school you cannot deny the definition of TRANSFER because that's what it is I don't understand why it is being defined as that because it is Definition of Transfer according to Google

I am not by any means attacking anyone or Maiden by any means congratulations to the kid and the school wish them nothing but the best I guess Boom Devils too whatever that means!!
