The Wolves are so young! If I had to pick one true upset in the west...it would be Lincolnton over Monroe
I wouldn't be upset. If the Wolves coulda, woulda taken 2 or 3 of those close games from their county rivals they wouldn't be in the situation playing the big dogs and a more evenly matchup for round one.If I had to pick one true upset in the west...it would be Lincolnton over Monroe
With 2 more wins, Lincolnton would probably be playing a home game this fridayI wouldn't be upset. If the Wolves coulda, woulda taken 2 or 3 of those close games from their county rivals they wouldn't be in the situation playing the big dogs and a more evenly matchup for round one.
I remember one LHS kicker who was pretty accurate at kicking it to anyone he wanted to and high forcing a short return. Another LHS kicker whose leg was so power that he would mess with the opponents before games sending ball after ball into their area of the field during warms up. The best might have been a punter named Charles Briggs. He might punt it or he might just run for a first down no matter the given distance. They didn't punt much. Finally, the Lincolnton return walls were a devestating thing of beauty.Looking back at each county rival game played by LHS. The Wolves had a punt blocked in each one that resulted in touchdowns. If the Wolves played better special teams, they would have possibly finished with 3 more wins. The old LHS teams from the deep playoff runs were elite in special teams. Monroe will probably block one . Heck Bunker was up by a TD, the Wolves lost all momentum after the Bears #2 ran back the kickoff for a TD. Hoping the Wolves improve in that area of the game.
Thank you, my friend, for saying something about Red.Lincolnton's cousin was a Shrine Bowl tackle that played at Hickory High and led the 1966 team to an undefeated WNCHSAS Championship. His punts were rare as the team was very dominant, but his pregame warmups were awesome. He punted the ball so high it went above the lights at the old College Field at Lenoir Rhyne. He went on to play at N.C. State. Special teams play is very critical for success at the high school level.
