Shocked Clinton lost this game. Sounds like the officials played a role in the outcome which is never good. Football can be a bitter game sometimes. Beat Andrews on a missed XP and a week later lose on a missed XP. It's the small things this late in the year. Helluva season Clinton, we were pulling for you. Nothing to hang your heads about, tremendous season.

Hate it for Clinton but you guys do realize that the term "home cooking" implies the refs were from Bunn or close by...correct me if I'm wrong but I think in A REGIONAL final the refs would be from somewhere not close to either school....Know how it feels to lose one like this...we lost in a regional final in 2011 to Kinston on a last play hail mary from 45 yds out...................good luck to the Dark Horses in the future...still looking for another match-up between Reidsville and Clinton....it's been 17 years..................

There was no home cooking. Ball was spiked and referee was blowing whistle and waving his arms with 1 second left on the clock. It was hard to hear but you could see it clearly. Awesome game.

Whatever yall say congrats to Bunn again shame it had to end like that but I saw 0:00 with my eye glasses on soooo I know what I saw but hey it is what it is

What a great game! That's how they should all be at this time of the year! If there wasn't a second on the clock when spiked then everyone in my area must have had the same mirage because we all yelled there was a second left at the same time. But the refs missed Bunn calling a timeout and let several seconds tick off shortly before and that hurt too. It's just picking it all apart. I just know I enjoyed a great game tonight. Love football!

New rule inside a minute refs should not be able to make any calls beside blow the whistle to end plays hate when refs determine who wins and loses that game was OVER 23-20 Clinton wait the NCHSAA will review find that the officials were wrong but then outcome won't change great way to take away a win from Clinton never been so upset as a fan smh congrats once again to Bunn call it complaining call it whiinning but Clinton won that game

I was on Bunn side and right tightend for Bunn constantly lined up offsides but side judge never threw a flag. As far as the one second, there should have been a flag at very least because Bunn never got lined up correctly. They only had five guys on line of scrimmage. Great game

Clinton was offside (encroachment) on at least one kickoff, that wasn't called, if you want to pick the game apart. But honestly, it was a great overall game from heart of the players, to the coaches, to the refs (not many penalties called at all)....
It's ok to feel that Clinton won, East Duplin feels they won their game, too... it's probably the way Bunn would have felt if they lost because at the end it was a tight game and they lead in 3 quarters of both games. It's perspective...

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PERSPECTIVE. THE GAME WAS OVER!!!! 23-20 CLINTON!! Nothing else needs to be said! A kick off...now that' picking a game apart. That had nothing to do with that final second NOTHING!! Those refs will get their dew...like the Duke-Miami game officials. LOL

Mark my words in a few days/week something will come out about the NCHSAA reviewing this and those officials will be reprimanded but it won't change the outcome and that sucks for these kids but oh well....if it would of been the other way round Bunn faithful would of felt the same way so call it whinning but go back and look at my 2,000 post and see he many times I complained bout a ref costing us a game....this is the first I never seen again like that it was ridiculous

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!! I'm still seeing those final 5 seconds in my mind. What about those players? How they must feel. Jonathan was already jumping up and down and the ball had not been snapped yet at :01. Then it went to 0:00!!!!

Biggest loser was the kids especially the seniors....yes players were celebrating the game was over

Coach Lewis said in the paper he has never been so bitter about a loss....the other team was not set but the ref claims he didn't see it he had his back to it......I call BS!!!!! Really hope Monroe just walks all over Bunn cause honestly they should not be there that's all I have left to say

You can see for yourself if you download the Periscope app. Search FranklinCoNews. The 2nd & 3rd videos in their feed shows the plays in question. At the end the 3rd video (around 25 minute mark), the announcer very clearly states that there was :13 left when they called the timeout. The next play is the run play that you can see in the 2nd video. There was :07 on the clock when the back is tackled. This run didn't result in a first down, so the clock should have continued to run. Count the time it took them to "line up", then snap the ball for the spike. I counted 10-11 seconds. If that isn't good enough, take a look at the lineman running toward the line as the ball is being snapped for the spike. This footage was recorded from the Bunn sideline and you can even hear someone say, "That's game".

A. The clock stopped on :01 for about 3 seconds, then went to :00. I hope the Bunn fans are buying the clock operator a nice steak dinner somewhere tonight.

B. There VERY clearly should have been a penalty for illegal procedure. Had this been called, there would've been no way to get a snap off immediately upon the ref's starting the clock...even with the phantom :01.

It's pretty hard to believe a team can run the ball for a small gain, get everyone lined up properly, and spike the ball in :13 of game time. NFL and College players can't even accomplish that. It just isn't possible and it was complete BS. I hate it for the team, the coaches, and the fans. Disgusting ending to an otherwise great game.

I KNOW that there was a second left... don't care what ANYONE says, but Bunn may not have been in formation at the line... I DON'T know that... too worried about time to pay strict attention to that and if so, refs should have caught that and threw flag, but there was a second left.... Just SO glad Clinton didn't win by the 5 TDs predicted. And yes, 22 & 23 were really good for Clinton, had that correct.... also, Clinton's band members were awesome to support Bunns band and do meet and greet at halftime... that was great sportsmanship!!

Not possible to call an outside run, get tackled, have the ball spotted, get lined up, and spike the ball in :13.

Was the clock being held or paused? Are there ramifications if the nchsaa finds that it was deliberate? Clip on youtube.

I'm not sure of the ramifications for it, but the clocked stopped two different times from the time that he went down until they spiked it. A lot of the Bunn offensive players had hands on their heads thinking it was over right before the center snapped the ball. As you can hear the guy in the video on youtube say "that's game". Not sure how you have 7 officials on the field and miss the clock and the fact that the offense wasn't set, but like I said in an earlier post, it was complete chaos. Tough way to end one for the Horses after you've already had the the feel of victory only to have it taken back. Quiet reminiscent of the 2003 Miami/Ohio State National Championship game ending.
Count the seconds. They had 6 seconds, I count 11-12 seconds. Game should be over then and there. That's all folkshttps://www.periscope.tv/w/aTMdVjFQWEVkd3d5TnZqZXZ8MWRqR1hib2dCTFZ4Wl-6nQonZUBD16ltWT6lVyeYJ7q-7TyXUUQcg9kX2Q8H

What are some of you coming up with. One poster said that the clock stopped 2 or 3 times.. really. I was there, clock never stopped. Second, Wiz stated they had a total of 17 to 18 seconds.. what?

Get a stopwatch and play the video. When the ball is snapped, start your stop watch. You will hear two whistles, the first is to indicate that the play is over, the second was the official in the end zone trying to stop the clock. When you hear the second whistle, stop your stop watch. I did this five times. I hid the stop watch so I did not look at the time so I was not influenced by that. Every time I stopped the stopwatch, it was around 13 seconds (that is with human error). Now, keep in mind that the clock does not count down in tenths of seconds but rather full seconds and it not only is very possible, but highly likely that when the official was blowing the whistle trying to stop the clock it still showed 1 second remaining. Which is why they put a second back on the clock. But it most certainly did not take 17 to 18 seconds and the clock never stopped two to three times during the last play.. that is just bull.

If you look on youtube, search Bunn Clinton Final minutes, you'll see it.... so glad it's there.... No funny business there... Spiked, questioned time, refs say one second left.... can't answer the formation question, but refs were right there.... Hard for anyone to lose a good, heartfilled game...
Time to move on and pull for them 'Heels tonight!!

Watched the video. The real issue is that Bunn wasn't set on the final play in which they spiked the ball. Argue all you want about the time, I see both sides to that argument and will assume the officials were sincerely trying to do the right thing as they saw it but you can't spike the ball without your team set. penalty should have been called to end the game. I can see why Clinton coach lost his sh*t. Can't blame him one bit.

Generally speaking, unless it's a huge run off of time like 3-5 seconds, I don't think you can start to expect or even allow high school officials to get in the business of tracking/manipulating the official time. It's a slippery slope and we all can likely agree that had this been at the end of the first half, they would have said time had expired and sent teams to the locker room for the half. To differ from that at the end of the game is tough.

Agree with you on the line not being set (refs missed it, not our fault). In high school, is there a time run off if there is an offensive penalty within the last minute or so of the game?

No -- no run off in high school.

speaking of home cooking for Bunn. this has nothing to do with the refs. when we (East Duplin) played Bunn, on our last drive we had no timeouts. there were several, and i mean several times on that drive when the clock should have been stopped for a first down or going out of bounds or whatever. almost every single time an extra 1and most of the time 2 seconds would run off the clock AFTER the clock should clearly have been stopped. me and some of my fellow Panther fans saw it very clearly and were absolutely dumbfounded that our coaching staff either didnt notice it, or said something and nothing was done about it. in our eyes this seemed to be intentional on the part of whoever controlled the clock. it was way beyond the delay you would expect between the clock needing to be stopped and the clock operator actually stopping it. needless to say we were furious on the sidelines because we only had less than a min left in regulation and zero timeouts. and of course every second counts in that situation. it was very obvious to us this was happening and i still dont know how it was allowed. one things for sure, Bunn would have never had that advantage had we played at East Duplin.

I'm not saying it was home cooking, I'm saying that the officials were incompetent in enforcing the rules. There wasn't anything discretionary or vague about the time on the field, they just ignored time had actually expired.
I heard a rumor mind you that this crew was assigned to a championship game next weekend. That would be a serious mistake by whoever books these assignments.
96panther, I agree ED and Clinton should dominate the east next year

wildcat1294 if you can point out where I said 17-18 seconds I'd like to see it . I said 11-12 seconds. You are correct it took 13 seconds but the problem is Bunn had only 6 seconds left on the clock when the ball was snapped. Time expired. You're right the first whistle blew at 5 seconds when's the player went down, that doesn't stop the clock . The clock expired before everyone even got up much less attempting to line up. It was a serious timing error

Bunn had 13 seconds on the clock before the snap not 6. Get the facts right. That means everything I put in the post would make sense. Where in the world did you get that there was only 6 seconds on the clock? Unbelievable. You are on here arguing a call and whinging and you do not even have the facts right. This is hilarious. 6 seconds .. to funny

by the way Bunn fans, im not using the mismanagement of the clock as an excuse for us losing the game. although it certainly didnt help. that earlier post is actually the very first time i mentioned it on these boards. i know no one has accused me of making excuses but i just wanted to throw that out there just in case they did.
