SL sandbagging yet againThe problem with Crest is they will be able to score a bunch on most if not all teams (Makes me sick to type this) Weapons everywhere, four very capable very fast receivers, can run the ball with up to 3 backs and Huskey at QB keeping plays alive with his legs will make it difficult to slow down much less stop.... Will take a perfect game to hang with them friday night, but I do think as long as we dont implode like last week, we can put some points on the board... They are that good this season .. We are still learning to get out of our own way.. We cant turn it over 3+ tmes again or were gonna get throat punched right out of our own stadium... Speed everywhere at the ranch

I am ready for crisp fall air. That is when it really feels like football season. As a Burns fan, the heat is rough when depth is an issue.

Man, take a weekend off of here and it takes a while to catch back up. This will be a scattered post because I think I'll touch on several things that were mentioned the last several pages.
First congrats to Crest's dominant win Friday. You made an inexperienced defense pay the ultimate price. I hope that is a lesson for us and we learn from it. We will not see an offense that explosive the rest of the year. Overall, I thought offensively we were very good, but we did make a couple critical mistakes. I don't think Crest is even close to where they need to be defensively to win a state championship. When you get to teams like South Point who can make a drive last for 6 minutes, then your offense scores in 45 seconds, your defense will be exhausted. Just something to keep an eye on.
It doesn't get easier with Kings Mountain this week. I am excited to see what they have this year and make some comparisons to Crest. That could be an epic battle the last week of the season.
I'm not a big fan of the away team running rampant around the stadium taking pictures. I think the home team has more leeway with that. The bomb dropping never bothered me as the home team. I can't speak for any of the coaches actions as I was obviously not involved. But both sides more than likely need to show more class than that. It is a rivalry, and tempers flare at times, but the adults have to show constraint. Otherwise, what are you teaching the kids.
Burns will be fine, even if we lose this week to Kings Mountain. What 2A team is playing the #1 and #2 3A teams in the state back to back weeks? Probably never happened before. This will only make us better. We will have numerous weeks in a row to touch up things before playing Shelby at the end. And we'll be ready for another deep run.
I don't think Burns will fall off as much as people think after this year. We're probably not looking at another deep playoff run. But I think 2 rounds sounds right. We are way too early in this year to talk about next year though.

Just wanna point out that Ben Mauney passed 6,000 career passing yards last week against Crest. Only the 7th QB to ever do that in Cleveland County. Probably has a shot at 8,000 yards before the year is over, which would break the county record (7881 yards, Isaiah Bess, Shelby)

One of the best out there for only 4 episodes. Every high school player in the nation needs to watch it twice. Those mat drills and late night workouts were wild! That’s why they were great.

Of course, Shelby takes transfers, but that is different than the alleged recruiting that Crest has done. Yeah, you have gotten legit transfers, but some of your additions were “dirty pool” being played.

You’re right! I should have been more direct, rather than sugar coating. Crest has blatantly recruited and you all know it. The county knows who’s the Don behind it. You all may not recruit as much as you did during the Kirby era, but Crest definitely has recruited. The 3 other county schools definitely held their asses tight during the off seasons, especially during Kirby’s era.
Yeah, we all remember that Gaffney kid, a DE, that was rush ordered before Shelby game in ‘21, also.

But, you can't. We held Burns to 13 midway through the 3rd quarter. Plus Porter is coming back in October, and we expect two more hurt players back this week and we'll move AJ Davis UP from JV all 240 pounds of him sooner or later.

Currently, your D is trash. Crest took away Burn’s screen passes, and shallow crosses rendering Mauney ineffective in the passing game. Norris had a big game running the ball. Burns got behind, and they had to go away from him. Look for Bridges to burn Crest over the top as least twice. Look for Tate to have a solid game running the ball. Crest will win, but the game will be closer than expected, in my opinion.
