Yes, my entire career has been in North Carolina. By the time those rules were passed, I was already past that point in my career. If more money is an issue for young teachers they can drive a bus (1 hour per day is about $400 more per month), move to a district that pays a higher supplement, coach, tutor, or get their National Board Certification. I've done most all of those at some point when I needed a little extra.
Coaching in all districts don’t even come close would be a better statement. Even in single systems that pay 12 month supplements and higher salaries doesn’t cover all the time that they perform.I appreciate your service to the state for so many years and while it's easy to say do those extra things, people shouldn't have to do so many extra things to survive. Driving a bus carries much liability and responsibility and there are many health issues that can prevent you from driving a bus.
