Chambers

Coaches leave, principals leave, teachers leave, math students leave, band students leave, science Olympiad students leave. Band students transfer all the time. When Mr. Jones left Harding students left and the band fell off. When Dr. Gray left WC students left. WM band director is leaving and some of those students are going to WC. Hopewell gets a bunch of band transfers. Northwest school of Arts gets dance, band, and oratory transfers also.

3 of the largest HS in NC are Myers Park, Ardrey Kell, and SM. All over 3k. They are locked for transfers, but get residency/home school moves yearly. They just happen to be 3 of the best academic schools in the state. So parents are moving to them for academics but no one cares. They only fuss when its football and basketball players moving. If moves are made legally and are legit have no issue. If its falsified or games played they should be punished.
I used to argue this exact same point for years but think we have reached a tipping point. Are there legit reasons to transfer? Sure....but we have moved way past that now. Parents are now moving kids not because of opportunity but as away to handle grievances and in many cases because of their own egos. Lots of unintended consequences filter through and I continue to see it grow now in the workplace.

On a personal note I have found it to make HS sports far less enjoyable. No doubt I have become the old guy " get off my lawn" dude.

Nothing can be done now as it is just evolution but it just sort of sad.

The root of the issue is our love for football, a more selfish society, and how football was marketed in its onset. Football was marketed as a team game. Hard nosed, no Is, and you play through pain, and just do what the coach says. The powers that be profited off of this mantra to the detriment to the player. Just look at the NFL and how they hid concussions, CTE and had non guaranteed contracts. If a player got out of line they could be immediately cut. Players played through pain routinely. Some of the 60s through early 90s football even at the HS level would be outlawed now. It took over 100 years of college football for players to be legally compensated. Football was basically legalized slavery if we are honest.

-Now that society has changed to an I society at the same time players/ parents get more freedom and coaches are adjusting it has created this selfish space where folks only care about themselves and who gets offers. They will leave a program in minute to try and find a better situation. Instead of the new coach saying stay over there they welcome the problem parent. Combine this with the health aspect of the game and we may not have football as we know it in 30 years.

Grew up on the Southside of Chicago not far from where the Butkus family lived. Alot of those early 70s Bear players tended bar or worked other gigs during the summer. Unreal to think of now.

It's the evolution of the culture. Not just sports. I'm not surprised at the trickle down affect. But your right...I was a huge HS sports fan for 30 + years. Still have an interest but not nearly at the same level.

A friend (former ACC hoopster) grew up in Baltimore. His father played in the NBA in the 1950-60's and had an insurance business. Practiced early morning or late evening at an armory. They lived in a regular neighborhood of medium priced houses. Neighbor was Alan Ameche, Heisman and long time NFLer. When he and his beauty queen wife moved in my friend told me several of the Colts helped them with the appliances. He and his father walked over to help and Johnny Unitas was wearing shorts and a plain white tshirt with hard soled black dress shoes while putting tile down in the bathroom. At the time Unitas was the top QB in the NFL. Unreal.

Haven’t heard much on Chambers and we usually do. How are they looking for next season? Any key additions or subtractions?
Has the competitive landscape shifted such that another program close by now has the top players, or will Chambers continue to have the upper hand in terms of the caliber of transfer athletes joining the program next season?

There are rumors of a couple of other guys going places, namely on the offensive side of the ball.

I think some of their young talent will have a chance to play earlier, which isn't always a bad thing.

I just read from multiple sources that James Pierce, Jr. is projected to be a first team All-American this season, if things go well for him. Has Chambers ever produced a first team All-American? Has CMS ever produced a first team All-American? I should know, but my memory is shot.

I don't know if a defensive player has ever been selected first in the NFL draft, but this guy may have a chance. He's building quite a reputation. He may actually be what Clowney was supposed to be.

Mallard Creek's Jordan Davis was a first team AA at Georgia and a first round pick by the Eagles. Outland and Bednarik Award winner. Hope Pierce can do the same.

I still can’t get over athletes leaving Chambers for what most people would see as lesser programs. What’s going on there? A few years ago it seemed to be the place.

Despite the recent recruiting investigation, the big problem still persists. It's time to address this issue head on and demand fairness in the game we all love. Due to unforeseen circumstances, there will be a team that will have to forfeit their well-deserved victory. Let this be a lesson to all, the true champion is the one who plays fair and follows the rules.

Recruiting is definitely happening, but why the uproar all of a sudden now? This stuff has been happening. Back on another message board that’s not around any more, a staff member at a school called out Brand and Vance for directly reaching out to their players. They went downtown with it and nothing was being done about it. Old news now but goes to show you many do it. 2024 coaches are openly talking to kids on other rosters it feels like, you right about that.

Not sure I understand.

Good luck with that

It's real simple. When your team does it we just say" kids should have choices". When your team loses kids it's " we need this to STOP!! where is the investigation "
Recruiting for me, investigation for thee!!

Not sure a Chambers/Vance fan should be talking about recruiting and transfers in. Then demand fairness? Vance/Chambers won 2 ships and lost one and forfeited a season with alot of transfers in and some very questionable eligibility issues. They were the main target of the CMS investigation. Alot of this player movement stems directly from the Chambers staff leaving..... and the success not being as good now. Not other coaches or programs recruiting. Chambers has lost a great group of energetic great coaches they know football scene.

Let’s get his name right James Pearce Jr. He has been projected as the number 1 pick in the draft next year by some media outlets.

Yes, you read that correctly. I'm going with the grain, not against it. I'm going with what's right, not illegal. The West was placed on the map because of this stupidity. Specifically Charlotte. High school coaches are typically prohibited from directly recruiting athletes. The state has strict rules in place when it comes to direct recruiting athletes. This means that any contact, communication, or offers made is considered a violation. So why are you confused? Let's play by the rules and create a fair and ethical playing field for all athletes. The highlight of your message states "Not other coaches or programs recruiting". That is until they get caught.

You tried to word it as if no other coach here in Charlotte has committed this act. Coaches have the mindset, freedom, advantage and flexibility to demonstrate innocence as long as their hidden agendas have not been discovered.

There is no greater satisfaction than achieving your goals through hard work, dedication, and integrity. So once again, I'm not sure why you're confused.

Maybe I missed this in your response but bigdadd made a good point, Chambers was one of the schools benefiting from transfers now that the tide has turned, you’re advocating for doing what is right. Did you feel this way four years ago when Chambers was on top?

I agree with you in principle, but were you saying this when Vance was the beneficiaries of this tactic? I stated last night that Vance was called out by Rocky river staff on Carolina varsity for reaching out to their players. This individual was with Fowler at East meck and migrated with him to Rocky river, so somewhat trustworthy and “in the know”. Also I myself and many others back then saw another Vance staff member commented under a DBs social media picture and tried to convince him to transfer to Vance. That DB was at Indy at the time under coach Evans. That DB went on to play at Georgia state for 4 years if I remember correctly. Brand and his staff recruiting was one of the worst kept secrets in Charlotte, even with programs going downtown to complain.

Were you just as upset back then? Did you go to message boards to complain about Vance and Brand loading up their rosters every year with kids from all over Charlotte? Damn near every QB Brand had was a transfer at Vance. I also personally know another family that transferred their sons from Indy to Vance under Brand, while STILL living in mint hill. That son went on to play D1 after playing at Vance under Brand.

A vance/chambers supporter whining about recruiting and transfers..we’ve seen it all now😂

Apparently you did not take the time to read the tagged message.

I could be a little trash talker, but it is really embarrassing to put a fantastic Chambers on the map through unethical means.

No offense but not sure you are serious or see the irony of a Chambers fan talking about recruiting. SMH. I've seen everything now. A bank robber telling folks to lock your doors and be careful. SMH
If you're not sure, then you have lost all trust and confidence within yourself. Time to start a trust fund.
