Central Carolina 2A Non-Conference

In a perfect scenario

3a

Oak Grove
Ledford
North Davidson
Southwest Guilford
Parkland
Mt. Tabor
Western Guilford

Can you imagine the atmosphere of SWG, Parkland, or Mt. Tabor vs Ledford or Oak Grove or ND. Those gates would be HUGE

2a
Thomasville
East Davidson
Central Davidson
Lexington
Trinity
Randleman
HP Andrews
Wheatmore

I think this conference would be a great local conference. All teams within 45 min drive. Should have great gates as well. I know the Wheatmore-Thomasville basketball would be an instant rivalry. Central vs. Trinity would be interesting

South Rowan should have never been in the conference to begin with... Amazing to me that they wanted SR in here but not Tville. Thank goodness everyone went to bat for them, even if it created too large of a conference.

Tville going 1A would not be good financially but they would probably be a powerhouse again with the current coach at the helm.

Mt Tabor would probably dominate that conference, in all likelihood most years. And yes, I can imagine the gates since we used to play them in the 4A CPC, those games were HUGE. Southwest Guilford I don't know, because I've never seen them play. Parkland... Maybe they've got better with attendance? They used to bring like 20 people to a game, granted that was when they were REALLY down...

Parkland isn’t going to bring 100 people to a football game in Davidson County. Good or bad. They don’t travel.

I could live with the conference though. It’s not like West Davidson, Central, Lex, T’ville.... they aren’t bringing large amounts of people to games I’ve been to either.

But... I can’t tell you how many away North Davidson games that I’ve been to in which North outdrew the home team. Even several years ago when North went to Asheville to play T.C. Roberson. Outdrew the home side! Not the last trip up there, the one before.

If they go back to a 25% each scenario... Mt. Tabor, SWG and Parkland might very well go back to 4A.

East, West, Central, Thomasville, Lexington, HP Andrews in one conference if they all remain 2A. LHS, OG, ND with other 3A schools. Maybe N Forsyth, SW Randolph and others.

It won’t be N. Forsyth, they just dropped to 2A starting this season. And I don’t see their enrollment going up in near future.

What is their ADM? The 2018-19 has them as having 1014 students.

I remember seeing somewhere that they had lost numbers since then, and that has to be true or the NCHSAA would have never allowed them to drop.

When are they going to make the decision whether to look at 1A-5A or stick with 4? Are they going to put off realignment for a year?

I’d be fine with not going to N. Forsyth. Traveling Hwy 52 Northbound after school is a real pain in the butt, as we all learned back when West Stokes was in the CCC.

NCDPI board of directors is involved and has tasked the NCHSAA with finding a better solution than 25’s or 20/30/30/20. They want conferences based on schools that are similar in size. There was a law suit from a mountain school that got stuck in a league with much bigger schools last realignment and it has struggled in all sports. Thomasville is in a similar situation at basically 650 playing CCC schools with 800-1100 kids. NCDPI says fix it or they will. They are completely against schools in leagues with this kind of difference in ADM.

It works for the mountain school... Who probably did get robbed.

But it doesn’t work for Thomasville, who knew quite well what size the schools were in the conference that they asked to be in.

I’m not sure which is the greater villain to deal with here... DPI or NCHSAA. I kind of don’t want either making decisions for athletics.

I agree that Thomasville knew what they were asking, and no sour grapes there. But they also knew it was the better of the options. Especially financially. There were other reasons, as well, that they didn’t want to be in the conference originally proposed. I suspect they also knew that moving would sever some ties with long history and they might never be reconnected.

Well, I for one am pleased with their presence in the CCC. I know it is a struggle in a lot of sports, but its good to have a familiar face as opposed to the South Iredell, West Iredell, West Stokes, Providence Grove... and many of the other outliers that get placed in the conference from time to time.

North/Ledford will be losing more students this year and OG's will grow. And Central's numbers should be close to these schools.

I could see all 4 (Central, Ledford, ND,and OG) in a 3 conference. Question would be where?
