CCC week 10

Just went on the Davidson County Schools website and had a look at the Day 10 ADMs.

Oak Grove 983
North 963
Central 905
Ledford 905
East 844
West 740
South 371
Yadkin Valley 205
I’m kind of surprised by South’s numbers. That’s more than I thought they had.

South has been losing students in small increments each year over the last decade. They used to have 500 or so.

You’ve got to watch those folks down there... many of them like the “red headed step child” role. They are losing kids for sure... both to the fact no one wants to live there and the charter schools on either side of them (Gray Stone and Uwharrrie).

Something has to be done to make sure kids want to go to school there. Unique programs, more solid CTE programs, perhaps even making it a school of choice, (although few would currently would choose at attend there at this moment). But hearing people say that their football sucks because you only have 371 kids there.. well, that doesn’t float.

I know the system had Phil Rapp working for a year on ways to draw more kids to South. But not sure what they actually did to accomplish that. Rumor was that they would initiate an advanced manufacturing academy there, but it really doesn’t look like the county is doing much of anything in any of their schools for that paradigm shift. Very disappointing because much of Davidson County’s economic future relies on having a workforce that can fill the jobs that can be attracted.

Thomasville is getting a new advanced manufacturing facility in the near future and I hope it attracts students to the school as it will be an awesome program and facility. Also getting a new multipurpose gym for wrestling, PE and other sports that need indoor access due to bad weather in the fall and spring.

Are both of those going to be on the high school's campus?
