Salisbury- Salisbury wins a good ball game.
PG- PG is moving forward and ED backwards.
CD- Bashes Lexington with that double wing.
NR- Owns this series so I will go with them.
SD- I am rooting or the SD Wildcats to get a W. Whoever wins may get the only W for the season.
THS- Red Dogs beat the Blue Dogs at Cushwa Stadium.
Wheatmore- Wheatmore did a decent job against HP Central in a scrimmage so I will go with them.

North Rowan game not being played. Covid (contact tracing) issues within the East Rowan program.

We went to the East Davidson/PG game last night and that was a huge disappointment. I really feel bad for the players at East. The play calling was awful. Someone explain this to me. How is that you practice 40-50 plays during the week and you only run 5 on Friday night. East Davidson football was heading in the right direction when we had David Hines there. Still can't figure out how and why that you would let a coach go when he guides you to a 6-5 record in one season.

6-5 is an accomplishment on Lake Road. I’m sorry that the program is headed down a bad path. I’m always rooting for East. I heard that they have no JV this year. There is a disconnect somewhere. There are kids in that community that can play football. There are athletes walking those halls. Probably not the kind that can win conference championships year in and year out…. But they are there. The entire athletic program at EDHS is in shambles. I can point fingers, but it won’t do much good. Comfort + Complacency = Current Conundrum

Allen Brown and his son Vince sat right in front of us last night and Allen left after the first quarter. Vince looked at me and stated I think he has seen enough. I told him about the coach that went 6-5 and was let go after one season. He stated that there are times when teams just don't want to get better. I have to say that I agree with that statement. Like I stated earlier, I feel bad for the players over there. During the one year that David Hines was there it was the first time in history I believe that East had a QB that passed for over 1,000 yards and a RB run for over 1,000 yards in the same season. He opened up the offense and made it fun to watch. On top of that, the play calling is terrible.

I don’t know what the coaching situation is over there anymore (As far as assistants go)…. Is it possible that they just don’t have a staff that is committed to doing the things it takes to win? I know quite a few coaching staffs that sent their players home last night and went RIGHT into the video room to start breaking down film. So many committed coaching staffs in this state. Their work shows on Friday with hard-nosed play, disciplined play, and good solid play calling. 3 draw plays and a punt for 90% of a game isn’t entertaining. It doesn’t draw the crowd that you need in order to fund your athletic program. It is a damn good thing that EDHS has a band that people want to show up to see. Half the crowd is there to see the halftime show.

I don't know what the deal is to tell you the truth. It just doesn't make any sense that when these kids are playing county ball/they are winning county championships year in/year out. I truly believe that there is a huge disconnect where the coaching is concerned. That is just my opinion though. You mentioned 3 draw plays and a punt for 90% of a game isn't entertaining. Try having the ball on 4th down/Denton to go for a first down on your own 10 yard line and calling a fake punt. I just shook my head in disbelief.

Winning at the peewee or little league level with bigger than average kids and a funky offense does not translate to winning at the middle or high school level. East has been down in about all the sports lately. The year they had with Hines (correct me if I am wrong) was during a time when the Eagles were very competive in all male sports because they had a group of strong and pretty athletic kids that came and went. Didn't Hanner have a winning season back 3-4 seasons ago and got an upset win over Thomasville and made the playoffs? Something is missing and it could be a long season for the Eagles.

I believe that the beginning of East’s dive began when Hanner left for West Montgomery, which lasted a month or so. I’m not an insider, so I don’t know the details. I’m speculating. He left pretty abruptly to take a job that looked great on paper. Big changes were coming to the Montgomery County football landscape, whether he knew that or not? I can’t say. After his super brief stint at WMHS, he landed at Ledford as an assistant.…. East’s arch-enemy. Then an EDHS coach who had success (by East’s standards) gets gone after a winning season…. East is in the midst of a huge, school-wide cloud of doubt. East can’t field JV teams in sports that they used to be really good at. There is an school-based administration carousel. I don’t think anyone can put a finger on exactly what will turn this around, but you can bet your butt that it won’t happen quickly.

Hanner spent 4 days at West Montgomery.
