Final: Catholic 27 Rose 20.
Wow, what a game!! Started off a little rough with Powell getting the opening KO when he wasn't supposed to and taking it to the house. However, Catholic responded with a trick play TD pass which went from Walton to Anderson to Newman back to Walton who ran it in for the score.
After that Catholic responded again with a Jaret Anderson 33yrd run to make it 13-7 Cougars after a missed PAT.
Rose would answer with a Powell TD pass on 4th and goal which made it 14-13 Rose at the half.
Catholic started the 2nd half with a 5 1/2 min drive which ended with a Jaret Anderson 1yrd run to give Catholic the lead at 20-14.
Rose once again answered again with I think a 25yrdish TD run, however a missed XP kept the score tied at 20.
Catholic then won the game I believe. A goal line stand with Rose inside the 4 yard line, and inside the 1 for two plays really I think turned the game to Catholic.
After that Catholic turned the ball over on downs at the Rose 22, only to get it right back at the Rose 31 late in the 4th.
From there Anderson punched it in again from 16yrds out with :50 seconds left to give the Cougars the lead.
Two sacks one by Reid Brandt, and Connor Miller ended it for Rose. What a feeling!
Amazing game by both teams and my hat is off to Rose they played a helluva game and should hold their head high!
What a sweet victory!! Enjoying this one!
Go Cougars!
Oh hey....CAN YOU STOP THAT RED MACHINE?!?!

Great game by both teams.Of the few I was able to see, this one felt like a championship game and would have been worth the money. Great effort by Rose and Congrats to a well deserved win by Catholic!

I agree, it was a fantastic game! What a way to win a title after being 8pts away from winning one a season ago.

Congrats cc14, I like your support and enthusiasm toward your team. You are a true fan.

I posted on another site the same, but the front O and D line will get some much deserved credit. I still like the receivers and their ability to make the catch. They dive when needed, watch the ball into their hands, and simply make the grab. The QB throws with anough zip to ensure only his target can get it.

I know they live off the run, but their passing game has to be respected. #2 is one hard runner.

Best coached and fundamental team I saw overall. MC in the same category as they were very prepared, but they have all the horses. Caholic does an outstanding job with with what they have.

I know you guys are private and can get players from all over, but I am curious to how many are from the CC area?

Most live within a pretty close radius to CC. Used to be a contingent from Huntersville, but there is a Catholic school up there now so very few come from Huntersville.
Also we are not private, we are parochial there is a difference.

Isn't a parochial just a private school run by a religious body?

You guys are a very well coached and disciplined team. Your front 7 swarms to the ball the times I have seen you play.

Not necessarily. There are differences that I've looked into that separate the two. I was on the field with a mountain guy who had accused CC of recruiting. He took one look at us and said "I take back anything I ever said about recruiting...these guys are the size of a 2A team(physical size wise).
Catholic prides itself on coaching and that's what's carried them for over 40 years now. Execution and discipline seem to be overlooked in today's game, but it is so important to winning games when you don't have athletes like your opponent does.

This is the best front 7 I have seen at CC. They held Rose to 44 rushing yards in that game. Outside of a couple unreal catches by Powell who is a stud they really didn't do too much. Also holding a team avg 53 PPG to 14 offensive points, that alone is extremely impressive.

#12 is a heck of a LB
That he is. He has very long arms and huge hands. He can cover too, has several picks. #54 I thought had a fantastic last two games. Greyson Krone is his name. Defensive MVP.
He was everywhere in the Dudley and Rose games, he stepped up when Catholic needed him too. Was very impressed with his play too.

Based on my limited knowledge of them and knowing people in the Catholic community it appears about every player on the team either came up through the local Catholic school elementary system or moved from out of state for family work related reasons where they attended a fellow Parochial school.

Catholic is not a team loaded up with elite athletes that will play D1 college football. Far from it.

The CC defense did what I expected them to do. I posted before the game that Powell was a special player but the the rest of the skilled players were not anything more than CC had not seen and slowed down this year. Holding Rose to 14 offensive points is very impressive. I was surprise CC kicked to Powell. I give Rose defense credit, they looked much improved against NH and they continued that play against a very good CC team.

The kick wasn't supposed to happen. He was supposed to kick it very high to #7, but the rest of the game special teams wise Catholic played lights out in terms of covering kicks.
The Rose defense brought it, they were for real. They did have some trouble on CC's counter play which burned them several times during the game.
My favorite play was 4th and 2 for Catholic when Anderson ran what looked like 34 or 36 lead. Got the first down, that was Catholic football right there!

Couldn't make the 3+ hour drive from Greenville to see the game but I did see it online. Congrats to Charlotte Catholic. I see why they are undefeated. Smothering defense.. very impressive. Good job to Rose for representing the East.
