Burns @ Monroe

For Burns and CC football let’s hope Burns can go shock the world and pull the upset, causing another flop.
I see some saying Burns can do it and others thinking the other way.
I know I would have a spy on that QB to the point if he goes to get water he has someone on him for a refill. They have a ton of int’s on defense so it’s obvious people have tried to throw on them quite a bit. They will not have that issue Friday but if we can gain a few yards at a time I would throw one over the top here and there to keep them honest.

I'm telling yall, I think this could be a blowout but that doesn't make them favorites. Burns is down this year.
Anybody that knows me knows I'm one of the biggest Burns fans there is. But I'm with you, I feel like this game could get ugly fast. I really hope I'm wrong.

You're right we are down, but dang most everybody would take 8-3 in a down year.

Qb now wasn’t the starter at the beginning of the season?
A true qb would help Burns tremendously but the play calling doesn’t help.
They have players to go win this game
No. Our QB was our best LB the last 2 years. He's committed to Western Carolina for baseball. He definitely wasn't the "planned" QB at the start of the year.

To have your best defender not playing defense, they did a good job filling his spot. I haven’t seen but two games but I think their defense is pretty good. They have speed and cover the run well. The linebackers do a great job filling his spot.

North Stanly is definitely and improved program from what they were many years ago. FH once beat them 91-6. FH led 27-0 at the half against North Stanly this year but they came out ready to play in the second half and we squeaked by 30-21. They definitely don't give up.
91-6? What in the world? I have never seen such numbers on a scoreboard LOL. Is the Oxendine kid for FH going to be ok for next season?

Back in the 90s. It was 70-0 at the half. Third and fourth quarters were shortened to 5 minutes to end the game quick. Still holds the state record for most extra points in a game by Jay Sutton (13) former Appalachian State kicker.
I guess Oxendine will be back next year. He suffered a Lizfranc Injury of the foot. Honestly I prefer our current JV QB Noah Furr. He led the FH JV to the Rocky River Conference Championship this year knocking off Monroe in the process and going undefeated in the conference.

Wow that was a Big Deal Game. I have never seen JV QB Noah Furr, but I have seen and have enjoyed Oxendine. He has been to mane camps throughout the country to include the Dallas Cowboys stadium. Great kid with skills. I also know your HC. I wish you guys nothing but best wishes in this next round.

Burns with the upset....
Monroe havent played any smash mouth fb teams yet...Burns D must step it up
Burns has only lost to teams in Cleveland County and those teams are still playing. Those teams will also be playing next week I think. Monroe didn't play West Charlotte and that to me would have been a bigger measuring stick. Forest Hills was going through some position changes and trying to figure things out but outside of that I am not sure Monroe has played anyone to the strength of Crest, KM and Shelby. I do think Burns has been battle tested more but we have to play better than we did last week. Penalties and Special teams are extremely important this week and both have hurt us in the past. I would love to see the offense throw some short routes to get the RB's out in space. We did that a little Friday. If Monroe stacks the box we have to be prepared to adjust. There is not one coach that does not want to keep playing so I know they will prepare. This could be a big upset and I am all for it. Let me also add that even though I was a little frustrated Friday about us making a few mistakes and letting that game get close, North Stanly does not quit. They are actually much better on defense than I thought. Both teams were laying the wood.
Strength of schedule in non conference could play a big role.
Don't have a solid take/guess for this game. But give me Burns. Monroe shouldn't be here in 2A and I've been a fan of Burns since I saw them play Salisbury at home in Covid playoffs vs Honeycutt.

Burns by 7
The good news for burbs is they have seen, Shelby, crest and kings mountain
True, but none of those teams had the superior athlete at quarterback that Monroe has. I looked that kid up. He’s an absolute burner, runs the 100 and 200 in track, and he has solid D1 football offers.

When Reidsville blew out Shelby last year alot of you were confidently saying Shelby was going to come in and play very physical game and move on to the title, because Reidsville hadn'at had a physical game or tough game ALL season.

Now you all are assuming that because Burns has played alot of tough local teams that Monroe has not been battle tested and will be exposed by Burns.

ok

WE SHALL SEEEEEEEEEEE

You have my quote attached but I never said any of that.

I just simply don't like Monroe. They should have never been in 2A. They do have athletic teams and deep rosters but they disappoint every year in the playoffs despite being heavy favorites online and on paper.

Monroe has the ability to spread the ball around to a lot of different guys. They are not very complicated at all on offense, but what they do they do pretty well and 90% of the time they are gonna have more true athletes on the field than most teams they play. Monroe loses when people who don't know them that much can run with them and are physical with them. They are used to winning big and when they get in a tight game they tend to make mistakes.

Their QB does not read the field great but is serviceable in the passing game. The problem with defending him is resources; if you drop 7-8 and only rush 4 there is a decent chance you flood his passing lanes and make him pull the ball down and run. Therein lies the problem, if you make him a runner that is his strong suit. He is fast, very fast. I believe he is part of a 4 x 100 state qualifying relay team there. Yes I am well aware that "track" speed and "football" speed can be different because of the angles and such, but this kid can out run a lot of peoples angles. Your best option is to try and make him step up in the pocket and put people around him and get him on the ground. If you got a LB that could possibly play a spy technique that could also work. But you HAVE to account for his ability to run. Blitzing him especially if you can disguise it and still get in his face can force a bad throw. If you tip your blitzes there is a great chance he dumps the ball to an equally fast RB or slot waiting around in the flats for it, or he will get deep roll out and keep running.

I cannot speak for anyone else but you knew what my point was. Playing all 3 CC teams will test you and most years 2-3 are in the later rounds in other classifications. Reidsville was a force last year and most were not surprised by them winning it all. That is why I kept referring to Monroe playing the entire WC game. That game alone could very well have shown much more about Monroe from a fan perspective. On film, they look fast but they always are. We are the underdog and should be but until the clock shows 0:00 I am not counting anything out. Look at JH Rose last week.

Tough thread. No Monroe fans makes for a pretty boring thread. I am torn between we have played tough teams and battle tested to needing a balanced attack to keep up in case. If we can run the ball well we can win but if they shut us down on the ground we may be in trouble. I have never picked against my Dogs so I am saying Burns by 6.

Monroe does have one thing. Someone for them likes to post fake scores on MaxPreps for both their JV and Varsity team's games. I've seen numerous times this year when someone will claim they're leading 50-0 over some team in the 1st or second quarter when they're not and MaxPreps has to get a correction later that night. I guess they think that's funny. I know MaxPreps has had a problem with people doing this with other teams. I'm pulling for Burns tonight. Go Bulldogs!!!

No way Monroe is the favorite.
“Yes way”, in my opinion. Why not? Reidsville’s run defense is suspect. They better shore that up quickly, unless they just plan on out scoring everyone, which is possible for them. They also lost their stud RB

Monroe has shown no weaknesses, unless you’re going to use their schedule against them, and you being a Cleveland County guy, you know Shelby has weaknesses. Burns doesn’t have a true quarterback. You guys were doomed from the start.

I think you need this round and the next round before you go picking favorites other than your personal favorite.
No need to get a little butthurt, because someone mentions a favorite other than Reidsville. Had myself or anyone mentioned Da Ville as the favorite, we wouldn’t have seen this comment from you.

Same Monroe, different year.....they'll disappoint eventually.

Looks like Burns is without McGowan tonight?!?!??

So without our QB 26 is probably being generous.

Playing in such a weak conference pads a record with wins. We are just being brought back to reality tonight. We all knew that this year would not be what we’ve had the past couple of seasons. But hopefully we have some more great talent coming soon. I know the middle school were champs.

Between the young Varsity players, JV and Middle School we have a bright few years coming.
