Over how many years we talking? b/c guaranteeing 3rd round of 1AA playoffs every year is a tall order. As for how they'd do in the SMC, who knows? I'd think they'd go WHC if they went 1A, anyway. And the WHC is a lot tougher top to bottom than the WNCAC.

The only way Brevard gets a good coach is for fans showing up at school board meetings when they discuss hiring a coach,it's how we managed to get Rick Barnes,if the community shows no interest then they will continue hiring hometown boys like Bailey and we saw how that worked out.Another thing, this not going full contact but once a week shows why everybody manhandled Brevard. It might work down state where you can rely on great athletes and lots of speed but not in the mountains.

dgheel57.........very true statement............politics should never be involved!!! I also do not understand the one day a week full pads!!! That philosophy seems to invite kids to be soft and not physical.

It was pitiful watching most of the time. The defense looked like they were playing two hand touch half the time.

John Gagliardi, the winningest college coach of all time (at a small school in the midwest) never went full contact in practice, not even one day a week. The difference is, in college you can recruit kids that already know how to hit.

BlueVols, I am not sure you can put a blanket answer to your question....I am sure that different approaches are used. I have know some to practice in full gear Mon, Tues, and Wednesday with various levels of contact, some go light with helmet and shorts/sweats for a short walk through on Thursdays. I do know with diminishing numbers on the field it can be risky and cost you a player due to an injury on the practice field............I think we must remember a old cliche " You PLAY like a PRACTICE"........If you go hard in practice it will show on the field on Fridays!

Heard or read that Vince Lombardi once asked his team, "Guys raise your hands if you think practice makes you perfectly ready to play the next game?"....Team raised their hands , and answered Yes!...To which Lombardi said, "Well....You guys are wrong because only Perfect Practice makes you perfectly ready to perform"....His examples were what if one of you lineman takes the wrong angle on the block?...Our QB or RB is left out to dry, and likely will get drilled on the play, which could result in and injury or turnover in that situation....He used other examples, but the premise remained....ONLY PERFECT PRACTICE makes you play perfectly on gameday!

Good luck to the Bluedevils with their coaching search!

How big is the weight room? How do they train in the offseason? What are they looking for in a head Coach? WDE!

Weight room isn't massive, as for off season training it depends on the coach....And as stated a west coast style would probably be best for us since we lack speed but have decent size.

Rick, very true. Vince was correct. To answer the question about full gear and practice I will say that I know of teams in HS and college who never dress out in full gear and have won state and national championships. They did drills to compensate for this. These coaches believed in their system and the results proved them right. I have also known coaches who used controlled contact drills two days a week for OL and DL play as well as tackling but the coaches had quick whistles to allow tackling to occur without taking the ball carrier to the ground. You can use controlled contact drills that will prevent injuries. You never allow a back or receiver to get drilled on an active play in an individual drill, group drill or team drill.

Someone mentioned Ollis as a candidate. He did a very good job at Polk, no doubt. But if you look at that situation, Ollis left and Polk is still winning big. However Ollis is not winning in SC. So maybe the Polk kids have a little something to do with how good Polk is and was. Maybe it was more about the players than the coaching?

Coach Ollis' pre-Polk Co. record was 19-25 and his post-Polk Co. record is 1-10 for an overall record of 20-35. I am not trying to insinuate that he is not a good coach, because he apparently is. I am just saying that his success at Polk had a LOT to do with the kids in those blue uniforms.

And how was Polk's record before Ollis arrived?

In 12 years with Ollis at the helm, Polk won 110 games (110-43 for a 72% winning percentage). Ollis had 11 consecutive winning seasons with his only losing season being his 1st after taking over a team that had gone 1-10 the pervious year (he was 2-9 that year). Basically, he averaged 9 wins per year.

In the 12 years PRIOR to Ollis arriving, Polk won 53 games (53-76 for a 41% winning percentage). During those 12 years, they had 3 winning seasons. FYI, that's a little better than 4 wins per year.

Not trying to insinuate that the Polk players aren't really good, just pointing out that weren't that way before Ollis got there and set up a successful program.

6 people interviewed so far but no word on who or which ones are being considered.

It is always about the kids. If you don't believe that ask Coach Barnes about his season at S. Brunswick. He went 0-10 or 1-9 after winning all of those championships at RC. When someone (4A site) made the comment that Coach Knotts would win a state championship at S, Davidson, I laughed.

I've heard that they are opening job back up. One month later still no decision made. Now I see why they've won so many games as of late. Must not be important.

Must not be important.

Or none of the candidates passed muster. Or what was offered was rejected.

What they want and what they get may not match.

sure rosman has beat them twice..we all know that want continue

No clue who you are or who you want to be but what does Rosman have to do with it?
just asking. I wouldn't be bashing another school or comparing records right now, at least till you win a few more than you have lately!!
