Best barbecue in town

Cook’s and BBQ Center, both in Lexington. And, as a Thomasville guy, it pains me to say it.

Mea culpa. Had to edit this. Accidentally said Lexington BBQ instead of BBQ Center. I think Honey Monks is cliquish, over priced and overrated.

Tommy's in Thomasville. Don't know what it is but Davidson County barbecue is just different...Not sure if this is correct, I heard that barbecue fame in the Lexington Thomasville area got its start from a Mr. Stamey who married into the Bridges family in Shelby, then later left that area and migrated northeast along what is now I-85, and settled in Greensboro...Have to say, Bridges in Shelby (both of them) and BBQ King Lincolnton are good, too.

In WNC, I'd say Haywood Smokehouse (Dillsboro), Buxton Hall BBQ (Asheville), 12 Bones (Asheville). Also been to both places mentioned in Shelby, my personal opinion was Alston Bridges BBQ one was freakin' amazin' and some of the best I've ever had. I know I'm in the minority on this, but I thought Red Bridges BBQ was absolutely awful and some of the worst I've ever had.

Side note... When I was a kid (late 90's) I remember going to some kind of big BBQ tournament/Craft festival in Tryon with my parents. Does anybody know if that's still a thing?

Lincolnton, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Tommy’s closed for good. Soon to be a Mexican restaurant. Believe me, I would have named it too.

You may want to try the Lexington BBQ Festival in late October. Between 100,000 and 200,000 visitors annually on one Saturday. Food, crafts and usually some pretty good music.

OC, I think one of the Davidson County posters said something about Tommy's closing. I do hate that.
I wonder just how many times the Thomasville faithful have discussed football over a meal, there, on a chilly fall evening, before heading over to Cushwa for a Bulldogs game.

So, I googled it and I have no earthly idea how I've never heard or been to this before? Only 2 and 1/2 hours from my house. I'll def have to check it out this year though. Thanks!

It was always a tough choice between a chopped special and a Cushwa dog. Of course, you could do both.

Check out their website or Facebook page before you go. Parking is a bear and not cheap. I’d recommend the free shuttle. Even cooler is taking Amtrak directly to it. But that’s not doable for everybody.

It is a good time, multiple stages with all genres of music playing.

OBTW, Barbecue Center is the best. Take 4 people with you and share the banana split.

Ridgewood Bluff City Tn., Highlander, Roan Mountain, Tn. B’s Greenville, NC. Gonna have to disagree with PC07, just not a fan of 12 Bones.
Great thing about bbq, many different styles for everyone. I enjoy most as long as you leave the mustard and white sauces at home, far far away from good pig.

Go Mountaineers

I know there is a church down the rd that serve barbecue twice a year. One in March and the other in October. Next Saturday they will be having it. Using hickory wood and putting it in tinfoil. That barbecue is delicious. Of course this in Rowan Co.

I'm a big fan of JDs Smokehouse in Connelly Springs. Their Jalapeño Cheddar Cheese Grits are out of this world.

Big Daddy K's in Denver has excellent corn muffins and burnt ends.

Boss Hog BBQ in Sherrills Ford is my nostalgia pick. Mama worked there growing up when i was in elementary school and mawmaw drove bus, would drop us off there after school. I got to meet Ricky Steamboat and Rosco P Coltrane while studying my multiplication tables and figuring out how I was going to get my older sister's best friend to kiss me.

Man oh man how did I forget JD’s. You sir are correct on the grits. They are worth the trip alone.

Go Mountaineers.

You find a church that does BBQ right, hit that sucker every year. Sulphur Springs in Shelby has been having there's every Oct for like 45 years. Outstanding Q and they make their own hushpuppies.

I've always had a sentimental spot for East Duplin because of their town's name, Beulaville. That was my Mother's name, course, it was Beulah, not Beulaville. Go Panthers !
I always knew you came from good stock Lincolnton, my mothers name was Beulah also.
As for BBG, had some good all across NC. Cant get good pig here in Missouri, its Beef here. Nothing wrong with good Brisket and burnt ends. Texas makes some of the best. Was in Charleston, SC a couple years ago during a big BBQ cookoff contest. I went around and tasted all the sauces. I picked one from a church group in Charleston, they only make it once a year. Bought 2 gallons of it. I do my own pulled pork here and have my son import me some good ole down east sauce from NC. He lives in Rouge Mont, north of Durham.

Thanks SWO-#1 for letting me know. That truly gives us a bond. I know your Mom is proud of her fine son. Hope all is well in southwest Missouri.

Thanks for the kind words Lincolnton. Doing goood here, hope you and your family are also. Had everything except a Volcano this last 4 months. Trying to get all the equiptment ready for spring. 50-60s for a couple days, then snow, sleet and rain. Sleet this morning. Snow forcasted for Friday again, then back up to 60s. Feb and March are screwey here.

My Wife and I really enjoyed eating at The Haywood Smokehouse. I bought some of their sweet sauce and brought back. We were going to eat somewhere else the next night but my wife want to go back to the Haywood Smokehouse and I agreed with her. Sweet Sugar's in Reidsville is really good too. B's in Greenville NC is always good. Heck I like Parker's BBQ in Greenville. The Skylight Inn that is in Ayden is great too.

close otis....but it's SHORT SUGAR'S (Reidsville)...not Sweet Sugar's...
I'm gonna have to get up that way and meet you for some BBQ one Saturday. Im working on losing a few pounds so I don't eat as much but already I can tell a difference. I got on the scales a few weeks back and was a little over 200 and it just pissed me off. At 5'-8" I should not be near that. I've lost 15 lbs so far. I noticed today taking a shower I looked down and saw something I hadn't seen in a while unless I was in front of a mirror!! 🤣🤣🤣

lol...I weigh 218.....when I graduated high school...I weighed about 155....when I got married in 1976 I weighed about 180....been down hill ever since...but hey I'll be 72 in July so I ain't complaing too much....would like to see you...I'm following West Craven vs. Croatan in baseball on gamechanger right now...WC is up 11-8 going into bottom of 7th....looks like the Cougars are gonna take their first loss after starting season at 3-0........................my grandson is starting CF for Croatan............

If I am just in the mood for Ribs I head over to 13 Bones in Mount Airy! The Memphis Style Dry Rub is my go to! I have had ribs across different places in NC also some in TN and couple other states and while I have had good ones nothing to me gets to 13 Bones. If you like ribs I HIGHLY recommend

I agree 100% on the Red bridges bbq being terrible.... the Flying pig (in front of Shelby airport) is a lot better. I think Red’s has just been around so long that it’s became a staple and easy to pull into.
