1) HP 1999 HP Central...easy pick for me
2) 1994 Lincolnton
3) 1990 Clinton
4) Shelby team that blew out NR and Reidsville in consecutive weeks can't remember the year (2013?)

2014 Shelby
2006 Burlington Cummings
2004 Southwest Onslow

And they werent technically 2A at the time but 2006 Thomasville

2002 & 2003 Cummings I think were the years they blew us out

My team's played 3 2AA state champions since when I started with the program.

My senior year in 2010 we played Salisbury who won the title with Pinyan and Romar Morris. They were okay but nothing that memorable besides their speed. We played them pretty well considering we had just one real athlete at RB who was one of the state's best rushers that year. I remember not much about Salisbury more than the experience of it being my last game as a player. We deserved a better draw; blasted pod system.

In 2013 we had the awful luck of having HP Andrews as our endowment game at Simeon. We were ridiculously banged up and had a bad luck streak; having them on the schedule was no help. I've never seen any film from that game and I don't blame the coaches for destroying it because we were in ridiculously bad shape. They were very classy though; they weren't intending to run the score up like some schools would have. We outplayed them in the 2nd half but they were up by so much it didn't matter. That team is one of the few I've seen mix speed and size. Put them in a more modern offense they coulda had a real powerful offense. Regardless Cartwright was one of the best backs i've ever seen; glad he got some success at A&T. He ran like a horse.

And 2 years ago we went the long haul to Shelby. They were very hospitable and hands down the nicest group of people I've encountered in the playoffs. The trip and everything was oddly very enjoyable and one of my favorite memories. We came with a good plan to open the game and we were a short bit from pulling it off but we made a bad throw and they dropped the gates on us. That team's hands down the best I've seen in person. They would slaughter that Salisbury team and beat HPA by at least 17. Studs everywhere top to bottom on that team. You can take any of their starting 11 and put them on any down squad from North Stokes to Highland Tech to Cape Hattaras and they would be contenders that's how good they were.

I've got some film of the 1996 Hickory team; that's one fantasy matchup I would love to see. 2016 Shelby vs. 1996 Hickory.

I'm fairly new to 2A ball. We've been 3A since 70's and most of my games I watched were all 3A and 4A. Last year I started getting out and watching a few other 2A games and man did I pick some good ones. The WRH- Northeastern game was as good as any high school game I have watched. The first half was really great. Both teams offenses wore the opposing defense down in the 3rd qtr which resulted in a high crazy score by both teams. WRH was tge better team that night and went on to prove it by winning a 4th State title in a row.
The other game that sticks in my mind was Havelock and New Bern just a few years ago when New Bern had Mike Hughes. Did he ever put on a show! That was 3A against 4A though.

Btango you are right on the money with the 1973 Sylvia Webster team. I watched them destroy a very good South Stanly team in a game played at South. Seems like it was something like 48-0 at the half.

It's hard to compare teams today to those of 50 years ago, but... one of the best seasons I ever witnessed was the 1967 Mt Holly HS Hawks. The Hawks gave up 8 points in the regular season, the only other regular season blemish on their record was a 0-0 tie against Charlotte Catholic. The Hawks were 1967 Western NC Champs (back when there were only eastern and western champions) and finished like 12-0-1. Mt Holly was a dominate 2A team throughout the 60's, eventhough they were one of the smaller 2A schools.

No offence but on a dry field 2003 Reidsville is running most of the teams off the field.

Other than Reidsville 2006 Cummings or 2013 Shelby is best 2A team I have seen.

Randleman was the best team that I have ever seen play. Back in the early 80's they had Tony Goss with that huge offensive line. They just ran the ball at will on whoever and whenever. Tony Goss I believe ran for 2,000 yards 3 years in a row and Randleman won 3 consecutive state championships.

Yes sir they were a very good team...

Only lost one game in 81 and one in 82 to the same team...

Went undefeated in 83 when they dropped that high school from schedule. Which team was that again?

Sorry Randolph County humor. Goss was a player and those teams were very good.

OK, I'll take the Wiz place for him on the 1997 Clinton team.

Also, don't remember the exact year but the Cummings team with Maurice Mebane. Help me out here rambbq.

The Mule, that 1997 team was also the 1998 team (Undefeated, 2-time state championships 96 &97) that your Reidsville team upset in the 3rd round of the playoffs.

Look at the team as a whole and how many are playing at the college level and going to play..this team was special! Not taking anything from the 02 or the 03 squad

1. 97 Clinton
2. 04 Southwest Onslow
3. 87 Whiteville (i was a kid but still vaguely remember watching them handle East Duplin at East Duplin in the playoffs)

No doubt they had an excellent run! Games were much closer then due to normally lower scores plus they were a run it ball control team. Had a lot of very tight games including a few to not so good teams.

Goss is one of the best all around players to ever play in NC. He could do it all. I truly believe he could have played all eleven positions on each side of the ball plus return, punt, kick, and hold. Special player, better guy!

I'm not sure that any team in the country could beat the Green Devil's last year. IMO
