I saw a headline in the Lexington Dispatch that Ann Ferguson is leaving Thomasville to coach Ledford men’s basketball.
I don’t subscribe to The Dispatch so I couldn’t read the article.
She’s been pretty successful at Tville.

You may be able to read the same article in the High Point Enterprise. Big loss for the Bulldogs. Several more to come. So far, AD, head football coach and men’s basketball coach. And principal.

Coach Ferguson was just named as the NCHSAA Homer Thompson “Eight Who Make a Difference” award for Region 5.
Thomasville’s loss is Ledford’s gain.

Just learned that Coach Ferguson picked up a transfer from Reidsville that is widely considered to be a DI basketball player, perhaps high DII. In talking to a family friend who is an official that has officiated multiple games of this young man as well as Thomasville, he says that the young man is a "Bigger, faster, stronger, more high flying Mccoy (I cannot remember McCoy's first name)." I've only seen a handful of Tville games where she has coached, and having seen far more Ledford games knowing they've talent that was mismanaged recently...but adding an elite player to such a good coach with a team that has talent? Ledford is going to be an extraordinarily different team this year than last.

I suppose my question would be: how was Tville before Coach Ferguson took over the boys? She seems to be more than just a good person and a good mentor. She seems to be a uniquely gifted coach...or so I hope.

She’s going to have a tough first season, I would think. Ledford struggled last year and graduated their leading scorer.
However, she seems to get the best out of her players. I hope she’s successful and brings some stability to Ledford’s men’s basketball.

How do you imagine they will adjust to her high intensity, fast paced, pressure defense style? They were very slow playing last year.

She will be fine. She is a strong coach and they definitely have some skill! They won't have the ability to play the way her teams at Thomasville did but she carries her reputation for a reason; she's a good one! Hate it for Thomasville.

One of the best to do, she puts her all into coaching.

I’ve only seen a handful of big games they’ve played but you sure seem to be right. Went to page tonight to see them play just out of curiosity. I speculated that page would run them out of the gym with athleticism, but they just didn’t and Ledford ended up winning. It’s absolutely mind bending to see the difference in how Ledford has played in recent memory to this year.

I watched some of the game, as well. They play very hard for Ferguson. I would say they have a chance to win the conference this year (they won it 21-22’) and looking at their schedule, they have a chance to be competitive in all their games.

Unfortunately Thomasville has lost some great coaches the last couple of years. She’s just one of those coaches that you’d run thru a brick wall for. Another coach that comes to mind is David Hayes, but he left to become the head coach at providence grove and he’s now the AD at uwharrie charter.

I agree. Page was quite good. They’re a playoff team I suspect. To go and beat a very athletic 4A team spells a bit of trouble for a far less skilled and athletic conference slate.

Ann is a really good bball coach, but an even better person and that is the key to success. She has high standards and holds her kids accountable. She builds relationships with the kids, parents and community and they will run through a wall for her. Ledford got a good one for sure.

Adding Grier to that mix makes a big difference! They went from not having a primary ball handler to having one in crunch time. He has made a world of difference already.

I agree. They’re not gonna press him and take it from him often. Beyond the fact that he’s a good ball handler, he’s quite tall for a high school point guard which gives him vision I guess. I did not watch Ledford as much last year except for when they came to play North Davidson, but they have another kid. That’s a pretty good ball handler as well. He was there last year though. So it makes me wonder if they’re in aptitude last year, particularly in the face of the press, had less to do a talent and more to do with coaching. I could not speak to that with any authority though.

I will say that I think they’re going to be a lot tougher this year than they were last year. I don’t see a game on their schedule for the foreseeable future that is a certain loss.
