Feel like it's time to start a new thread guys. OK. As we travel to Concord something just came to mind. We started out with Thomasville a 2A school. Now Concord is a 3A or 3AA school. Then West Stanly is a 2A or 2AA school. Then our first home game. East Montgomery who will be a 2A school next year. And Albemarle is a small 1A school. Something to think about!!!!!!!

This will be another tough week. I heard WS looked really good against SS. I'm hoping we can come through this stretch injury free and see what these guys can do with this experience against 1A teams. I'm excited for this group as they move forward. I still think they are going to get somebody they were suppose to lose to. Pending of course we stay injury free.

One thing I can say is I appreciated their hard work. I love some of the young talent we have. Can't wait to see them grow.

Agreed EF. I said at the start of the season we could easily go 0-4 to start the season. Whoever scheduled Concord must have got in my Scotch. lol

LOL I agree. This will be contest between men and boys. 6 years ago this game might have been good, although I think Concord would still have won back then by 10 plus points, but it's not the same today.

Albemarle should have trouble with Concord's size and strength. Concord's OL is much bigger than Albemarle's DL. Concord should run with ease. What I'm more interested in is how Concord's passing game does. Concord's passing game was horrible against A.L. Brown. I doubt if Albemarle gets much of a pass rush on Concord.

If I were Coach Mason I would work on defense especially this week. Friend of mine who was at the Thomasville said we only had 4 or 5 kids who were aggressive on defense. We need 11 who are aggressive...jmo and no I'm not a coach. But sometimes I think I am..lol

It takes no talent to hustle as our friend Coach Gaster would say. I think they tried on Friday but did not have the suitable skills and knowledge to be aggressive. Concord is bigger and more talented than Thomasville so it will not be pretty.

Coach Padgett is a great coach. Might be hard to keep his guys out of the end zone. It was hard for Thomasville.

Concord needs to score. Horrible feeling being shutout.

In reality, which is what I try to go by, we will not beat any team on the schedule except for possibly CC and SD, and those will not be guaranteed wins. We will get beat by 30+ by every team we play until those two teams. I am not sure if Concords JV team wouldn't beat us by 50. This game is going to be a joke and I hate that our kids, coaches, and fans have to go through this mess. The game of football isn't like any other sports in the aspect of physicality and extreme mental disparity. You can say that basketball, soccer, etc., are physical but it doesn't beat you down mentally and physically like getting dominated in the game of football. By the looks of last Friday night, we are going to get beat down for the next 11 weeks. With the situation our county school system is in, you cant bank on two to five years down the line for hopes of improvement. They are going to have to close high schools in the near future. Unfortunately the days of AHS making deep runs are probably over. The kids that have potential will probably jump ship to a better program after taking it on the chin this season. @sway1532, I heard as well that our line on both sides look and play like a JV team. Across the line we don't have a kid over 200 and most are in the 150-170 range. I am not sure our kids are mentally tough enough to withstand the beating, as not many kids are this day and age. I hope I am wrong. I was wrong about the Concord score!

Great post Susan!

@EF. Do you make any of the games? I hope to be at the EM game. If you can would love to meet up with you......

I do make some of the games and I would like that Buddy. I will be in the Bronx watching the Yanks and Orioles play three games this weekend and I will be at my condo at the beach during Labor Day. After that I should be free.

Buddy you are right about whoever scheduled Concord. (I know the current coach has to play what's on the schedule) They did a great disservice to the kids and the school. If it was scheduled for the payout, that was stupid considering the possible results. A small 1A school has no business playing a competitive 3A school. Even if very good, the depth comparison makes things problematic.
I get the argument about playing good teams to set the bar or prepare for the playoffs, but you have to be realistic also. You are playing a team who many of their 3's would start on your team. So yea if the opposing coach is a decent guy and tries to call off the dogs, his "scrubs" are still taking it out on your tired 1's or 2's.
With a very young team now you have to worry about injuries that yes all teams worry about, but is devastating to a small school where you are already starting too many freshmen. Also, you have to worry about ruining a young kids confidence and psych. Going from middle school to varsity is tough that only a few are ready for, to have a large percentage of your team doing it is tough enough without playing a much larger, deeper, athletic and most importantly physical team.

Sounds good EF. How about Sept 9. Our first home game . If this damn cancer lets me I will be there. Always sit in front of the press box. Enjoy your tough life. lol

You have to be a football coach. If not, you are just naturally brilliant.

You have to worry about ruining the psyches and confidence of these kids. Throwing them out to be humiliated by a running clock, being brutalized on the field can do a number on those kids. Albemarle will be in no hope contests for the next three weeks. After that, you have to worry about whether these kids want to continue putting out the maximum efforts. It's hard to pumped up when your body is three different shades of purple.

I'd love it! I'm going to be a grandfather before too long so you can give me pointers on how to spoil the grandchild without breaking the piggy bank. Look forward to it.

Honestly I hate it for the kids. But as far as the fans go I think every single one deserves what has happened to the mighty mighty bulldogs..... When Albemarle was fielding the Stanly County All Star teams with several players from Montgomery County as well winning State Titles and boasting about the "No Class Club" it was one of the most obnoxious and annoying things to have to hear every Saturday. Now, the "woe is me...doom and gloom.... the BOE has it out for us..blah blah blah...". Guess what guys... What goes around comes around. And if all of you Bulldog historians can remember, take away the Gaster years and what was Albemarle football???? Whipping boys for everyone around. Hell, they wouldn't even consider playing West Montgomery until they were forced too and it was because they were in the same conference. I really hate if for the current players but every team will remember the behavior of the Albemarle fans begging for the score to be run up and total embarrassment to their opponents. As far as building character and Albemarle turning it around... Good luck with that. No one is transferring in to that sinking ship and with the rats abandoning ship daily y'all be lucky to finish the season with 20 players. Enjoy karma....no school deserves it more.

From what I know about the football schedule there was very little choice in moving from concord. Due to a rumor going around that we were definitely closing without a doubt. So schools hesitated in scheduling giving us program wide very very tough schedules. I believe next year we will get back to a more fitting schedule for us.

If my memory is correct we originally had a two year deal with Mt. Pleasant, but they dropped us, I am assuming due to our uncertainty at the time.

Thanks bulldognation. I did'ntknow NR was moving into the YVC. I remember many great games with them. Especially 1994. Final game of the season. Both undefeated. We won in overtime at NR. Great, great game.....

Yessir beginning in the 2017 season they move into our conference and I believe we will lose east Mont as well as UA. I will see if I can find the link and post the new conference alignments.

Here is the Thomasville game online. I didn't realize until watching this that Tville lost 21 seniors last year and had a brand new oline. That hurts even worse.

That first scoring drive from Albemarle was a combination of Thomasville's respect for Albemarle's name and a little confusion and adaptation to the wildcat. Needless to say that Tville quickly figured it out! 23 is a heck of a player, however if they keep running him like that, he will end up getting frustrated and hurt. From the looks of Tville on this video, Concord would beat them by 80. I hope we make it out of this week with 11 players.

Susan, there are some T'ville fans who might take offense at your comments about the Red Dogs. But I'm not one of them. At the risk of sounding like I'm piling on, I'm not ready to say that Thomasville is that good. We lost most of our experienced athletes to graduation, including virtually all of our linemen. Fortunately, what we also lost were the players who repeatedly made silly, and often unsportsmanlike, mistakes. In the last two years, Thomasville lost several games due to bonehead mistakes and asinine penalties. Usually out of frustration and primadonna moves.

I thought Thomasville was a decent varsity team Friday night...and Albemarle was a really good JV team. I don't mean that in a disparaging way. The age of your players showed. But so did their potential. But here's the good news. In 2011-2013, Thomasville went 3-15 against what Preps said was the first or second toughest non-conference schedule in the state. But, beginning with conference play, Thomasville was 18-5 through the playoffs in those three years. Three of those losses were in the playoffs. They won the conference twice and gave it away once at Salisbury.

All is not lost. Your young players need encouragement from the community and coaching staff. They need to see every game as another step to their ultimate goal. And to understand that the experience they are gaining now gives them a huge advantage down the road. And, of course, it helps to have a motivator like Allen Brown on the sidelines..

Well said. I personally thought your team this year looked better than last year. Most definitely more disciplined. Good luck to you all the rest of the season.

2 Things stand out to me in the first half.. Albemarle has NO, NO NO kicking game. OK, But we only attempted 1 pass in the first half.......

Not sure if you saw the realignment there bud... West Montgomery is staying 1A. So good luck with Chatham Central and South Davidson. The only chance you will have at a W this year and probably the next 5!

He also said something about Monroe being in that 2A conference. Monroe is moving up to 3A.

So..... As long as the trophies are there and Albemarle is forever embedded as one of the best teams in history in North Carolina according to NCHSAA, I'm "Cool Breeze" over here.

Thanks Susan. What are we doing running the single wing with a small offense line. SMH....Also there has got to be one kid on the team that can punt the ball more then 10 yrds. Hell I'm almost 80 and I can kick it farther than that. The whole game was played inside our 50 yrd line. The score should have been worse.....

Albemarle ran the offense good exactly 1 series. After that I don't know if they had a first down.

The score was 41-6....with 10:56 left in the 3rd quarter. Thomasville scores a TD with 6 seconds left in the half and then scores 2 TD's in the first 64 seconds of the 2nd half.

Thomasville just had their way on the Albemarle's defense. I can't remember Thomasville having to punt all game. I remember that Thomasville had a 4th and long on the first series...and scored a TD. I think that only two times did Thomasville not score: one on a fumble and another on a missed FG.

Albemarle is very, very small, and I didn't think there was a lot of team speed. Seeing that drop in speed reinforces the fact that Albemarle has dropped down the last few years.

Thomasville is a good 2A football team. These are the types of teams that Albemarle would have competed with 5 years ago.
