Albemarle at Bishop (girls)

Should be a good one. Terry Sanford, last years 3A runner ups, best Albemarle by 14 over the weekend.
I’ll take Bishop by 15, as well.
As I mentioned before, keep an eye on Jackson Day.
I still think it’s Cherokee’s year again, as long as they stay healthy.

Albemarle girls had em on the ropes but lost. If they didn't trap so much and just played man to man I think they would have beat them. The helter skelter defense left Bishop open for 3's which is pretty there entire offense.b Bishop isn't as good as last year it's basically stand around and watch the senior shoot Steph curry 3's and other than the senior they are very short. Number 11 dominated the paint for Albemarle and they should have fed the ball to her more in my opinion. The senior missed most of the long 3's in 1st half (losing by 10 at half) and made them in 2nd half. She is the only one I would trap. Rest of Bishop aren't taking anyone off the dribble. At least not on Albemarle. I think Albemarle could beat them in a rematch imo. Good game to start the season. Now got to wait until union academy before Albemarle has another good game.

Albemarle shouldn’t have a problem with Union. Thompson is now at Cannon.
Alb plays N Guilford the end of December and that shouldn’t be too close of a game.

Bishop down by 10 at half won by 9. Jernigan had 29, 19 in second half (6 threes).. Bishop changed their defense in the second half and Albemarle stopped getting the ball down low which is how they built their lead. There’s a reason why Jernigan is the top ranked player in the state, logo range without effort. Threes were open all night, bishop had 13 of them. Jernigan is now 6’0 and is long and lanky with a great handle. She would eat up a trap and would live at the line, she’s much more than a shooter, although still the best I’ve seen in the last 20+years. State is getting a great talent.

Looking forward to watching lady braves and Bishop later this year. Besides Bishop...Albemarle ..and lady braves is there anyone else good at all in 1a girls ball?

Not many !A teams can play with Albemarle. Thank goodness 10 was ok, looked bad when she was carried off the court in third quarter (seen away too many ACL tears in girls over the years). Really a terrific player. Really don’t see much competition for Cherokee, Bishop and Albemarle in the west and definitely not in the east. Cherokee should be clear favorite to repeat.

Just watched the replay and your 10s foot came down on our 10s foot when she launched a half court at the end of the third. Could see the ackward landing and her knee buckling and immediately was concerned about an ACL when her teammate picker her up and carried her off crying. Probably scared her as they all know far too well the problem in woman’s basketball with knee injuries. All of us were thrilled when she came back into the game. She’s a terrific player.. likely to be well over the 2000 point mark by the end of the year, quite an accomplishment.

Looks like Albemarle’s coach was upset regarding that play per his tweet. Looked accidental to me.
Both teams are the top 4 in the west.
As mentioned before, Jackson Day is pretty tough. They’ve played some tough competition. Not at the caliber of these two, but probably a top 5 team in 1A west.

If the coach is tweeting anything like that then he’s an idiot. Three bishop girls went to defend and Jernigan backed off so they wouldn’t call a foul on a half court heave. Tell the moron to watch the replay and then tweet an apology. He may also want to apologize to his players for him getting out coached exponentially in the second half.

First and foremost lol. Secondly it was one girl from 3/4 court and she was under 10 they in fact hit knees. Send me your email and I can send you the clip. The young lady was not being dirty or anything like that she was being aggressive which is not what the tweet was about. It said something needs to be done about kids getting under other players while shooting. That was needless although it was very innocent.

As far as out coached I don’t think that is reality. Remember BM went on a big run which is expected because they are a really good team. We responded with a 7-0 run putting us up 41-35 and then the young lady made a great shot with time running out in the third. That’s when 10 heaved the 3/4 shot and they hit knees. One player was there. Unfortunately that happened glad 10 is ok and it was a great game as expected from two really good teams. Addy is ranked 58 nationally for a reason anybody thinking BM wouldn’t make a run would be crazy. But they didn’t do anything different we missed a few layups and 3’s in the 4th after 10 came back in. But once 10 came back their run stopped.
Hated that happened to 10 like I said it wasn’t intentional but something definitely has to be done whether it’s refs stepping in and/or coaches teaching better or both. But that happens to often and kids get hurt you can close without walking under somebody.

To sum it up both teams delivered on a great basketball game. I thoroughly enjoyed it!!!!! You only get better from games like that

Respectively, I've watched the clip multiple times, in fact it was directly across from where i was sitting. Your player let go of the shot just beyond half court. Jernigan was closest of the 3 bishop girls but not underneath her at all. Watch the players right foot, the opposite side of Jernigan, and see how it slides when she landed, almost "skipped" by itself. It wasn't because of hitting knees. I've seen more than i care to see of ACL injuries with this same action, had nothing to do with the defense just unfortunately how girls are built.

If in fact the coach took to twitter or any other social media about the game at all he is way out of line. He was, in my opinion, very much outcoached in the second half. The big girl was killing us in the first half and Robinson made adjustments to take that away in the second half and your coach didn't respond. On the defensive side he employed some type of zone trapping that literally left 3 point shooters wide open all night, including perhaps the best 3 point shooter in the state (which is why she's going to NC State and was an alternate on the US National team). Bishop made 13 threes, Jernigan was 6 of 14, in fact they only took 13 2 point shots the entire game while taking 33 3 point shots. Albemarle was much quicker and taller than Bishop, to play that defense was suspect at best.

It was a very entertaining game, Albemarle is a fine team and 10 is a joy to watch. Best to you and them and hope we don't have to meet again until the last game of the western regionals.

Bulldog 2014 is their coach.

That zone trapping was what did Albemarle in for sure the four short girls would have never got a shot up otherwise. Albemarle was way more athletic and significantly taller than entire Bishop squad with exception of Jernigan
