So I did a deep dive into the exact changes and try to show some transparency here that the NCHSAA failed to give in a memo for everyone to see, they (the association) instead regurgitated the raw data out and put the "burden of proof" on us to find on our own.

In my opinion, when making any adjustments, full transparency should be mandatory instead of "we made some changes and here is the new outcome". In my line of work, and I would imagine in the lines of work many of you are in, making changes to something important and not explaining why/showing your work as to what changes were made, would be unacceptable and grounds for chastisement at the least, if not more.

The elephant in the room for most posters/readers in this 2A forum is "why was Reidsville moved up?" The simple answer according to the data is this: We went from a breakdown of 32-8A, 58-7A, and 59-6A through 1A to 32-8A, 59-7A through 2A, and 58 1A. Regardless of the ADM changes that were made, the only reason Reidsville moved up is the change in the number of schools in the 7A/1A Classifications. None of the ADM changes caused that shift. The question then becomes: Why that change? On this, the NCHSAA has given no justification or made any comment as to why (Other than, 3A lost Reidsville but it gained Eastern Randolph, one perennial power for another (so everyone should be happy and not question us)). Will they give an actual educated reason? Most likely not and no one will force an answer out. For anyone that does care and would want a change to be made, I would imagine the only recourse of action would be to contact your representative on the realignment committee to petition a change. This also will not happen most likely. Because the NCHSAA has refused to issue out a memo explaining the change, all we'll be able to do is speculate and fuss and point fingers, etc.

Now for the changes according to the data released:

  • Garinger bumped up from 7A to 8A due to ADM going from 1951 to 2348
  • West Charlotte bumped up from 7A to 8A due to ADM going from 2084 to 2332
  • Caused Richmond Senior and Reagan to drop from 8A to 7A

  • Ballantyne Ridge bumped up from 6A to 7A due to ADM going from 1445 to 2133
  • West Meck bumped up from 6A to 7A due to ADM going from 1416 to 1914
  • Because 7A now has 59 schools, only one school drops from 7A to 6A: South View

  • Felton Grove (New school in Wake Co) bumped from 5A to 6A due to ADM going from 1158 to 1400

  • Granville Central is closing as a school, their students will be split into two existing schools in Granville Co
  • South Granville bumped from 4A to 5A due to ADM going from 889 to 1065 (Granville Central split)
  • JF Webb bumped from 4A to 5A due to ADM going from 872 to 999 (Granville Central split)
  • South Granville bump up keeps 5A at 59 Schools
  • JF Webb bump up causes North Lenoir to drop from 5A to 4A

  • Reidsville bumps from 3A to 4A to keep 4A at 59 Schools

  • Eastern Randolph bumps from 2A to 3A to keep 3A at 59 Schools

  • Hayesville bumps from 1A to 2A to keep 2A at 59 Schools
  • Southern Wake Academy drops from 2A to 1A due to ADM going from 527 to 285
  • SWA dropping causes NW Halifax to bump up to 2A from 1A
  • 1A now has 58 schools since 7A has 59 now

Hopefully I explained this in the accurate amount of detail the NCHSAA has refused to do. Do your job or lose your job, simple. If I had a pot of money sitting at the house and could afford to, I would go for their jobs myself.

Thank you for the explanation. The powers to be at the NCHSAA want to maintain all power and refuse to inform members. The main reason is so to keep the GA off their backs. They are afraid of making decisions, because of political pressure.

I believe it is due to not wanting any accountability for their actions.

You know at first impression, ole Grizz comes across like a ditch digger that drinks his lunch and dips his supper.... Then when I asked what he did for a living. all these posts that are far beyond my comprehension made much sense.... Dude is smart, the end....

Kidding about the ditch digger part, more like a logger in the pacific northwest that could rip my arm off and beat me to death with it... LOL

Don't discredit your first impression. I do drink my lunch most days and Grizzly Wintergreen keeps my jawline firm. And I did spend a summer digging ditches (among other such activities) in college.

I guess you could contact your local politicians and ask them to put pressure on the nchsaa to be more transparent and explain their decisions. Because the nchsaa here to death of North Carolina house and Senate at the moment

I find it ironic that, when we want to grouse about the ineptitude and lack of transparency of the NCHSAA, we turn to the one group that dwarfs them in both categories. Lord save us from the North Carolina legislature and their arrogant belief that they are experts on everything under the sun.

It's obvious....Que didn't want Reidsville to have to contend with Shelby anymore. It's pathetic actually. She didn't have to worry most years when the split classifications existed but if Reidsville was grouped with Shelby they wouldn't be able to avoid them.
Dumb as a stump!!!! If Reidsville and Shelby each had five more or five less students you would not have such an Opprtunity to show your ignorance. It is unfortunate that the two mostp

Over 400 schools and over 4,000 varsity teams in NC; I just don't see making the above 18 or so adjustments to create a domino effect that will specifically impact one school's team in one particular sport. Reminds me of a poster from a school not listed above who is convinced that every realignment and playoff criteria for years has been specifcally been put in place to screw his school's football program.

I Agree 👍!!!!! Something tells me that they already know who is going where or how the Conferences will be shaped!! There going to release this info in a few weeks before Christmas take off on break so they don't have hear the complaints about the Conferences and realignment!! I have always felt like the NCHSAA hasn't been transparent in communicating with the members and this whole thing is shrouded in secrecy because they don't know what there doing and there more than likely gonna foul this thing up!!

When that happened a few years ago Tucker and the whole NCHSAA threw there hands up and made claims that the State Legislature was being unkind and unfair to her about how the NCHSAA was being ran!! They(The local politicians that is) only wanted to know where the money from the Endowment was going or where the money was going period.

Take 3 eggs and tell your wife to watch you juggle them while standing on your finest floor. Think that's hard. Take 400 of them and do it while she watches. Think about it. Reidsville don't care where we are classed. 99% of Shelby fans don't either. Both programs can play well, wherever. It has to be split somewhere. How about you and TD and 2nd give us your plan.

I have taken all 444 eggs and juggled them. I did it the most equitable way possible. But I'm just one man and they don't care my opinion. I don't care that the switch was made...I care they didn't give an educated answer as to why it was made and what benefit (or lack thereof) there was in making it.

As of today. I finished making conferences for all 444 schools. Probably won't be near what the NCHSAA presents to the realignment committee...but it's done and it will be sent to the representative in our area for review/consideration. Maybe they'll trash it, maybe they'll compare it to what the NCHSAA gives them. Who knows.

Good Luck, If you get more than a thank you I would be surprised.

That I believe 💯

Of course Que did it to protect Reidsville from Shelby.
She is the one that calls Reidsville “her team”.
We don’t make this stuff up.
The current ranking set up favors Reidsville as they play no one in conference or out. Yet they get the # 1 seed. Just go undefeated against nobodies.
Did you notice in the 2021 Spring Covid playoffs, Reidsville just somehow “drew” the # 1 seed that time as well, even though all conference champs were considered equal.
This crap goes back for years.
The mere creation of subclasses in 2002 allowed Reidsville the opportunity to duck 50% of the rest of 2A. Reidsville had not won a title or even appeared in a title game for 31 consecutive years. Once subclasses began, they began to win. You think that is unrelated?
So let’s go to 8 classes, no different than 4 classes with 2 subclasses in each again, and once again Reidsville ducks 50% of similar size schools.
Oops, we still got Shelby?
Just bump Reidsville up one.
No one will notice.

My question for this is how could

First draft will be given to the realignment coming this week by Friday. They'll review and submit any concerns/ammendment requests back to the athletic association. They will go back and forth until they come to an agreement, which they are planning on being done by years end.

That final draft will be sent to schools in January for review and to give schools a chance to request changes if they are unhappy with what conference they are in. Requests will be reviewed and either approved/denied and final conferences will be released by March 1 (ish).

What we do know is they've attempted to keep split conferences to a minimum (as needed basis). So we can expect longer mandatory travel times in order to keep 1 classification conferences. We also know there will be several split conferences with 3 classes in them. I am assuming that involves McDowell in the west and possibly Rosman; and most likely for coastal schools like First Flight and Carteret and even New Hanover County schools.

We do know that 8A will have a 24 team playoff and 7A through 3A will have 32 team playoff...though they haven't said yet about 1A/2A...I would assume most likely a combined playoff...second option is for 1A to have a mini playoff of 8, 10, or 12 schools (unlikely in my opinion).

Big question remaining, at least for me, is how they plan on doing the East/West split. Either predetermined as a whole...predetermined per classification...or split E/W come playoff seeding.

We should all have an idea in about a month and a half.

More lies SMH go back to harvesting squirrel oil and quit making up stuff.

Anytime that much money is moving through a 501c3...something else is/will be going on. Humans are corrupt by nature and good things will not be left alone by bad people.

Don't twist my words or misunderstand the point I'm making. I'm not saying they are sacrificing student athletes...I'm just saying what in the world is all that money going to? Operating budget of over $3 Milliion? To operate what? A server and website? Salaries? Let's see those. Paying for state championship venues? If they charge too much, F'em, let's give the money to smaller colleges anyway. That's 100% fixable.

And on top of all that you're telling us your on pace to lose about $900k this year? Where is that loss coming from? Yes they hired an outside auditor to review...but he just delivered the results in word salad form...I want to comb through the paperwork.

Also...a bit over my head on this...but they transferred the entirety of their endowment fund into a separate non-profit?

--all these things...most people don't have the time or money to figure out or question. So they can hire someone to do it...but again, who has money? So then the people ask the legislative minions to step in.

If you get too big, people start poking and prodding and asking around, and if your house ain't in order and clean, this is what happens, the big dogs (regardless of intelligence or capabilities) are called in.

Some love it, some hate it, but we all get to watch it.

So sorry. How could the initial ADM numbers be so off on a few of those schools.
Some are new or newer (1 or 2 years) schools...so their ADM is very fluid with influx of possible kids. Theirs is really a best guess and their initial reporting was off.

Some schools have other nearby high schools that don't offer athletics, and their numbers combine. Think, early college high schools. The example near me is Newton Conover high school....the kids from Discovery high school get added. There are numerous schools that have this issue.

As for the others, I'm not entirely sure. But it all seems legit. Most didn't have a huge change. Just initial mis-reporting.

As the association said, they normally get the ADM numbers from DPI...but since DPI didn't have the numbers yet, the association had to get the numbers from the high schools themselves. This caused some issues because the kinks are normally already worked out when DPI puts the numbers out.

I meant the West Charlottes they were off by 100's. Was it a clerical error?

Most likely...but I'm not sure how all the school lines in Charlotte work either. Seems kids can live in a location where several schools are close.

But mainly, Charlotte is booming and growing exponentially...as several areas build up and up...housing costs go up and up, causing families to move to more affordable areas. This may be a result of that...the area around West Charlotte isn't growing as fast as other areas.

I'm not saying the above is the direct catalyst...but seems to be as good a reason as any other.
