Adjusted NCHSAA rankings

Who at the NCHSAA comes up with this idea? There are probably just a few idiots on some board that think they know everything there is to know about football.

Maybe use a system where there are “playoff committees” from the east and west to seed the teams. The committees would be more familiar with the teams in each region than some “know it alls” in Raleigh. Just common sense.

The NCHSAA is located in Chapel Hill.

The "know it alls" in Raleigh wear Red.;)

Well the "know it alls" in Chapel Hill are feeling "Blue" this football season.....pretty blue myself after my Wolfpack got taken to the woodshed by Clemson.....

How secure do you think Larry "The Hat" 's job is??

Regardless, this adjusted version makes no sense at all. I am one that is never overly critical of the NCHSAA's workings but this model for ranking teams is pathetic.
Many longtime posters who are not complainers but are knowledgeable fans are saying the exact same thing. Not sure who makes the call on this but it would to me be very hard to justify!!

I believe one more year. But I’m not in the big money crowd, nor willing to adopt the win at all cost philosophy.
In my opinion, there are three schools in the ACC who can produce bigtime football consistently. And none of them are in North Carolina.

If Hibriten isn't # 1 then the rest of it has to be incorrect.
South Point moved to 18th from 23rd while Shelby fell from 24th to 25th. Someone help me with the logic.

Wow, these polls get more weird each week. Who are these ignorant people? And why do they call it the MaxxPrep poll anyway? The Maxxprep poll has SouthPoint rated 4th but this craziness has them moving all the way up to 18th this week from 23rd I think.

Unless some of the big boys come up with $14 million between now and January 1 to buy out his contract, his job is pretty secure.

And the big boys are in no mood to write the big checks now.

Watch what former Clemson QB Kelly Bryant does and what Sun Valley's Sam Howell (presently committed to Florida State) does. If either commits to UNC, then Fedora will be back next year for sure.

The Mule, UNC is also having to pay enormous legal/lawyer fees that have accrued over the past 5-6 years. There are in no position financially to pay the lawyers, buyout a contract and pay a new coach (and potential their buyout) that would be worth their salt in bread. Bottom line, UNC's stuck with their football coach. Bryant? he's going to Arkansas where the offensive coord. that recruited him at Clemson now works.
Now for something more complimentary, I've felt for years if the NCHSAA really wanted to form a good football playoff, they should scrap what they're doing and enlist the services of you, TGT and some other knowledgeable people, (not coaches)' to pick the teams and seed them. Sure t won't satisfy everyone, but I think it would be more fair and equitable. Just saying....

For all the people complaining, what is really the difference between the power poll and drawing straws??? Top two conference finishers are automatic qualifiers. If your top two are real strong teams the third place squad should make the playoffs through the wild card syste, I will reserve full judgement until after the final week.

The issue seems to be the removal of the point differential from the NCHSAA ranking as compared to the standard MaxPreps rankings. That does not only cause a change for the team in the games they played but determines their opponents SOS. I do not like an unlimited point differential but I do think a capped one would work well, may be 21 or 28 points. Any points over that does nothing for you but if you are under that number it could cause a negative.

SWO wins by 28 and drops a spot. After the last 3 conference games we MIGHT get a 16th seed. Oh well, we have a better playoff record on the road vice home anyway.

The legal fees and all costs associated with the past have long been paid for by deep pockets, a half dozen or so who can pay off the buy out if they decide to do so.

Bryant may want to stay closer to home so UNC has a real shot at landing him. Sam Howell (Sun Valley Monroe) is listening and might decide UNC is his best bet for starting soon.

TGT had some great ideas about seeding teams, as does Simmons. Hopefully they will refresh their ideas and someone will take them seriously.

If UNC lands Howell no way Bryant goes and vice versa. Going to be interesting who makes the first move.

Well since we apparently don't have a clear cut Div I QB in the program ( too early to tell about the true freshmen) I suspect both realize they could play soon.

Bryant has one year of eligibility and most likely than not if Howell comes he would be redshirted that year. Almost impossible to learn the offense and play as a true freshman.

So, no its not one or the other. I would be thrilled with either!:)

The $ situation is not what I've heard. The potential buyout is nothing compared to the millions and millions of dollars of legal fees that accrued. I don't think UNC's financial pockets are bottomless!

While cursing the Internet I found this ......... Now thats where NCHSAA got the idea for rankings and playoff berths.

Thanks SWO. Problem with this plan is that it says just numbers but if the teams you play have winning records doesn't mean they are better. To me there are pockets of areas in NC that play subpar football as opposed to strong areas. This maybe be more simple for them but it absolutely isn't apples to apples!!

You hit the nail on the head when you stated "it maybe simple for them". Most things that are done because they are simple suggest taking the easy way out. They do what is simple rather than doing what is right.

Wiz, Bryant is visiting UNC for a second time a week from tomorrow for the Ga Tech game. I repeat, he just might want to stay closer to home.

Also, Les Miles might, I say might, be a possibility if a coaching change is made.

Do not underestimate the $$ boosters can come up with if they see possibilities.

Good luck with your conference games rest of season. Would love to see your Clinton bunch get a good seeding.

The Mule, the DarkHorses host Wallace-Rose Hill tomorrow nite. It's always a shootout. Last year we thought the Horses had the game won at their place only to have Javonte Williams take one about 60 yards with 54 seconds left.

Yeah, we know about Javonte. Took one about the same distance on their first play from scrimmage in the state championship game last year.

At least you won't have to worry about him this year.:)

Too many numbers to keep up with. Why not go with 42 points as the cutoff for margin of victory since that's the running clock number?

The concern is teams running up the score. If you are trying to score up by 20 I believe there is a different perception than trying to score when up by 40. Not saying right or wrong but 21 seems like a number that can be a maximum point.

With an involved and very strong coaches association these would be the type of items they should decide.

Up by 21 is nothing guaranteed. If that's a secure number, start the running clock then.

Please do not take Kelly Bryant

Hate the running clock...I don't care what the score is.............I guess I'm too old school.....play the frigging game.....that's why teams have back-ups.
BINGO!!!

Just another example of what our society has become. Award mediocrity, award participation and let's not try and hurt feelings in the process.

If teams would give their guys on the bottom of the bench all the playing time the blowout games, maybe the running clock rule would never have been started. Ever seen a team winning by a bunch put their defensive starters back in when the downtrodden team threatens to score and ruin the all-important shutout?
