Ac Reynolds @ Shelby

ACR was not really that outstanding last season I guess Ill have to change my thinking about the Rockets now. Considering Asheville losing 24-0 to Kings MT that makes for an interesting match up when ACR and AVL play. Would be a good one to watch considering there wont be 300 fans at that game no matter which stadium its played in.

Got backs! Need to borrow some?
No but we could use some defensive standouts ...

No excuses here, we got boot stomped by a very good team, but we aint dead..... (not yet anyway)
Lest ye all forget a few short years ago we started 1-3 and won it all..,,. I still think we will be there deep in the end ..... MAYBE lol

Big win dogs79.... good luck to those Bulldogs...

Thanks Lion. Shelby still king in 2a until they’re beat. Nobody will be overlooking Shelby. To be the man, you got to beat the man. I was thinking we could lose 4 games and possibly return to ship. I’ll be honest Princeton and ED ain’t no joke

To be fair Reynolds has owned 99% of WNC teams in the past 20 years. I hope Asheville can beat them but I dont see it this year

45 to 14... 4A style thumping

Well, we’ve been waiting on this.
The perfect teaching moment.

We will stretch a little, but not really.
The point will be made.
The point we have made for decades.

Chambers played “up” this week. They lost.
Hough played “up” last week. They lost.
Mallard Creek played “up” this week. Lost.
Weddington played “up” this week. Lost.
Dudley played “up” this week. They lost.
Shelby played “up” this week. They lost.
Reidsville played “up” this week. They lost.

The top teams in the State, across classifications, played “up” this week (or last), and they all lost.
But every losing coach will tell you, it will make them better….for the season.
The loss will expose the weaknesses, with time to correct or adjust to them.

“So what?”, you ask. Most understand that, correct?
No, they don’t.
We have had the biggest arguments and most aggressive abuse trying to make this point, primarily to the 4A crowd, but also to 3A and 2A folks as well. Play “up”, it will make you better. “But 4A can’t play “up” “, they said.
They just did. And lost.
Powerful Indy, at their finest, played “up” in Ohio. And lost.

Some thought, play it safe, schedule cupcakes for non conference, go undefeated, and you will get the highest seeds, and now, perhaps a bye.
Some still think that way.
It is past time for strength of schedule to be considered in year end seeding.
We will not hold our breath.
But finally, many are starting to see the great value there is in scheduling non conference play against a team that may be better than you.

Want more proof?

There is a high school football program in NC that has been playing “up” forever.
Many years, 40% of their schedule has been against teams from higher classes. Some years, it was over 50%. Many years, including this year,
scheduled teams 2 classes “up”.
That program has won more games and more State Titles in the last 60 years than any other.
They have won 92% of games within their class.
The closest other program of any class is at 80%.
But in only 3 of those seasons were they undefeated.

Now you know why.

I knew we would have problems on defense this year, at least to start with. What is so disappointing to me is we had 4 returning offensive linemen and added a 6'5" 320 lb behemoth for the 5th one. However in two games poor Daylin has been running for his life. I also agree with one poster above we seem to be playing uninspired football. I know these were two very very good ball teams we lost to and that most 2A school won't be nearly as good, but a fire has to be lite under some of these players. Shelby never has lived on press clippings, we live by going on the field and actually playing hard fundamentally sound football.

I completely agree with you on playing up, it just in the end makes you better. Beating up on cupcakes is boring and doesn't help a team at all. Just hope we can turn it around. Normally playing up we don't lose as bad as tonight. There is like you said time. Now on to them donkeys and hopefully better fortunes for the Lions.

4 returning lineman. A 4 star prospect for the 5th. A returning senior QB with school records in passing, and we get blown off the field?

I'm sorry all the talk about playing up is an excuse. Shelby has always expected to win these games, we haven't ever considered ourself a 2a team!

We flat out have gotten smacked around two weeks in a row. There's no clear leader on this team, and we don't play with any passion.

Of course we'll be ok when we play highland tech etc.

But let's not act like this hasn't been a complete disappointment that needs to rectified quickly.

I didn't notice any kids or coaches upset in the 2nd quarter. They gave up and were ready to go home. We can't coach pride, come on man!

Run the helll out of these kids, set some defensive goals for the rest of the year. Make Daylin lead!

This is why everyone laughs at our 2a titles. We "played up, we'll be alright, but were the best team in the state because we beat cupcakes every week"

I'm worried about our head coach again, if no one else will say it, i will!

This is called poise under pressure, u know like when you're calm and balanced, especially when you have to come from behind.

A couple early loses to high quality opponents and calling for the coaches head 🙄

i wish they stop wasting plays, running power with #5. If you’re going to incorporate him into the offensive on a situational basis, get him on the perimeter, he has enough speed, or maybe let him pass, and catch the defense off guard. He’s too light, running in between the tackles. I’d rather see them stay in their base offense, with #21 running power on short yardage situations. Despite him being even smaller, he runs harder, and has better vision.

People have said it and I will also, Shelby will be fine. ACR typically has struggled with Shelby but this year is different because we are much better then past years. We have a new OC this year, and experienced OL and a very good and experienced defense. We threw maybe 2 passes last night because we know we have to run the ball with the talent we have. Last year and years before we tried to force the offense by throwing the ball every other down. The new OC has great game plans so far this year and adjust each game depending on opponents. Am I shocked by the ease of the victory, yes, because I thought Shelby’s defense would be better. However this years ACR team plays with fire and desire to be the best, and they have great leadership and great coaching. Shelby fans stick by your kids they will get it I am sure if it, too much talent on that team not to!

Only 2 passes? Love it. Keep calling the running plays till they stop it. And they obviously didn't.

We cannot stop the run period. 77 gets double teamed almost every play. Our line backers are small. We have 4 former line backers in the ACC.And one @ GWU. We don't have that so far this season. Our O line will gel and get better, but I don't know about our LB's. Kicker being out yesterday didn't help. If we had a everybody healthy we still get smacked. I still have confidence in this staff from head coach to the bus drivers. We haven't played well yet. But it isn't the first time. Hopefully we can get some leadership and play with some piss and vinegar. GO Lions.
