I will add to my previous post. Clinton and East Duplin are the best of the East. I honestly believe that the winner takes the east.

These teams are equal in just about every way. Talent, coaching and pedigree. Like I said before whoever makes the fewest mistakes wins. I left out something that will be a big factor and that is the forecasted the weather. This will be the first time both teams have had to play in the cold this year. Cold can be as big of a factor on the grip of the ball as rain. Cold hands dont grip a cold ball well just as Tom Brady. Some early fumbles could happen and that could be the difference in the final score. It is just one of those things you can not simulate in practice. Either way I hope that the winner goes and gets to play Burns in the state championship game. I have watched that teams tape and they are not all they are being made out to be. They are the Princeton of the west and by that I mean very beatable. They just caught Shelby on a down year. Now yall go back to arguing and wear you thermals friday night.

You’re right about the weather; this is the mildest fall I can remember. I don’t know if we actually had a real frost and it’s the middle of November! . We even had a hurricane last week! I don’t know how such it will have on just holdincarrying the ball, but catching the ball passes/kick returns are more difficult. As you said you can’t simulate it.
It will even be hard on the fans if they don’t have their cold weather gear onAs I posted earlier Weather Channel shows it clear and 40 degrees at kickoff and about 35 degrees around games end.
Are you coming to the game?

Just curious as to you comment about ED and Clinton being the best still playing in the east.

Even though it was in week #2, Clinton lost at Wallace by a couple of scores. Princeton came back to beat ED by one. What has either done or WRH and Princeton not done since that time to cause you to have that belief?

Dont get me wrong, both are obviously very good football teams but I think that WRH, Princeton, Hertford and Whiteville are all legitimate candidates to represent the East. I am not sold on Cummings or Nash yet.

sportscribe, obviously you weren’t at the WRH/Clinton 2nd game.of season. Anyone that did would tell you it was much much closer than 2 scores. I’m sure both teams have improved since then. I can’t say a thing about Princeton or Whiteville . I know Hertford Count is essentially the same team(same qb) from last year and they were very good and well coached . Clinton was very fortunate to beat them. This is the 3rd round. Everyone is good, there are no patsies. It’s survive and advance from here on.

How is it obvious based on my post that I was not there? All I stated was that WRH defeated Clinton by a couple of scores.

My question was to an unbiased observer, which you are most definitely not, on the reasons why he thinks the way he does based on earlier results.

I too have been around football for a long time and am fully aware of how the NCHSAA playoff system works now and in the past. I am also fully aware that this week is the 3rd round and everyone is more than capable.

I really hope I can make it to this one. Always enjoy going to games in Duplin County.

I'm sorry I must have insulted you by making a comment. I didn't understand it was directed to a specific poster. I'm think your opinion of me is influence by another poster I and many have had issues with for some years. I don't have a history of posting with you I don't think, when I finally saw your post about the ERD/Hilbreten game, I think I came across as appreciating for clarification. My point at the time was why didn't they punt? I think it would have made a diffence. That’s nit hindsight I felt it at the time but I understand coaches have to make decision that sometime don’t work for many reasons. The 2002 Cumming/Clinton game was a good example many don’t understand.. Yes, I’m a biased poster. Not many on this board aren’t. I would mind meeting you at Fridays game if you get to come. Of course I’ll be on the Clinton side and can be easily found.
I think the Coach’s post about this game is fair and accurate. Straight up I think his prediction is accurate but as you know everything doesn’t always go straight up and as I heard a great coach say once” you gotta have a little luck along the way.” No way to predict that!

Not insulted at all. Take more than something on a message board to do that.

I too thought he had very astute observations in his posts. That is why I was curious why he thinks the way he does. I figured the WRH guys would have jumped all over it by now.

You Clinton posters have always been a treat. Before I started posting last year I would get a kick out of "official" Twitter pages, no fans allowed at practices and all of that. Then last year all the posts about the questionable calls that went against you in the ED game last year. Whats funny was in the week leading up to the game it was pointed out time and again how successful Clinton was in the past at ED and then it becomes "so tough to win there, they always get homecooking etc.." You and I went back and forth after the game last year on these boards.

Still, Clinton has an outstanding tradition, many great players and a fine team this year. I also enjoy listening to the radio broadcast from home on occasion though I usually only watch a small portion of the game.

I may take you up on the offer IF I make it. Going to be pretty chilly so I may stay inside and catch it on NFHS. Should be a good game.

Burns is legit. If I’m not mistaking, their group seniors won it at every level, high school to middle school. Burns is a big and physical bunch, athletic. But, that’s why you play the game. If the eastern teams haven’t improve their passing game, they have no chance, period.
I will keep on saying this, the team that wins the East does not necessarily have to pass, They just have to be able to DEFEND the pass.

If they don't pass they won't be able to defend it. This will be New Bern's Achilles heel in 4A

That 97 playoff game was 33-0(not 35-0)

easy to see why the Darkhorses aren’t popular in that neck of the woods eliminating ED in 96,97,2001,2002,2005,2006 in return ED knocked Clinton out in the first round in 2003 and 2nd round game last year. Good omen for Clinton a victory over ED in the playoffs seems to always lead to a state championship appearance.

Overall series in favor of Clinton 30 wins to EDs 14

Of course none of that has any bearing on the game this Friday but always interesting to see the breakdown of the rivalry.

May be in for another instant classic bias of course but I think this will be the best game in the state Friday night.

Don’t know about that Otis. Can’t wait to see it played out. Some nfl teams are becoming more run oriented
I think statistics will back me up. There are some really good teams with great athletes that beat the odds though. I mentioned New Bern because this has given them trouble. They have as good a football team as you will see this year. I think pass defense is what will give them fits.

He obviously has me on ignore. He is wrong on everything he has posted about the 17 Hibriten/ED game.

It was 9-7 just before half. Hibriten stops ED on the 4th down play and then scores just before the half making it 16-7 at the half. ED scores a TD just before the game ends, final score 16-14.

Usually I wouldnt care but I love to prove the angry guy wrong when I know he is wrong.

Anyone want to help me out? Good info in the link. Page 105 gives the rundown on the game in question.

He's wrong about everything he posts. He's just an old man who yells at clouds and believes in conspiracy theories.

Shouldn’t be like that towards wiz. Yeah, we disagree a lot but shouldn’t disrespect him like that. Y’all got to have thicker skin

I don’t remember the exact score, but wasn't it more like 35-16? Anyone remember?

Sounds right I was there. Main thing I remember was Clinton had #2 as a RB and I felt he needed to be out in the slot as a receiver or even out wide as a receiver. I think they have done this since with success. 34 and I discussed this on here post game.
Well he has since proven me wrong in that regard I mean obviously a talented running back over 1100 yards on the season now just felt it didn’t fit for that game running into the teeth of Wallace’s defense and #6 obviously it’s strength. One on one I’ll take #2 vs any DB in space just as dynamic as #3 up at Northeastern. But definitely a threat as a runner one crease one juke he’s off to the races. Starting to pick up Power 5 offers so others definitely see it. Hence the term “Wide back” lol baby Deebo Samuels

The biggest factor in that game was Clinton not scoring in plus territory I know the first 3 drives definitely. Add 14-21 points left off the board it’s a different ball game. Moral of the story is you can’t have turnovers and leave points off the board and expect to beat a good team everytime

I can answer the wrh part of that question, as it’s a simple answer. Clinton got out coached by the wrh staff. That was the difference, Clinton came in with a game plan and deserted it. IMO Clinton has several game changers, but didn’t have the depth. Ed has better coaching and Clinton has more D1 talent. We all know it’s a team sport and takes everyone doing their job to advance. Good luck to both squads, it’s going to be a classic!
