Auto bid to Grimsley over Northern Guilford based on tie break procedure (RPI)
Mountain Athletic - Alexander Central is out b/c cannot leap frog South Caldwell.

Determining NCHSAA Playoff Representatives
1. Conference Standings
If a tie, tie break decided in the following order:
2. Head-to-Head
3. How the tied team fared again the rest of the conference, starting with the number one team and moving down throughout the conference.
4. NCHSAA RPI standings.
5. Draw will be held by the tied teams for the seeds available.

Page/Northern Guilford would be an incredible rematch from the 24-21 come from behind last second field goal thriller from a couple of weeks ago.

NW Guilfords RPI is 7 and they are a non #1 seed from their conference and 2nd highest RPI from non #1 seeds. Independences RPI is 22 and they also are a non #1 seed as Catholic has won that conference.

How is Weddington a #1 seed over Grimsley or East Forsyth? Weddington was a #1 last year...and I thought they were suppose to rotate conferences for those teams that go 12-0.... I'm pretty sure they still rotate conferences but maybe I'm wrong. BTANGO might know.

Mt Tabor will be a #6, #7 or #8 seed, they are easily the best of the 2nd place teams in a conference. Yea, this is way off........... if Mt Tabor is made a #12 seed. Hough is going home 2nd Rd.

It's based off of RPI. You seed your conference 1 seeds based on RPI and then everyone else based off of RPI. There are 9 conferences in the 4A west and they will occupy seeds 1-9. Mount Tabor will be an 11-12 seed after this week and very well could play Hough in round 2.

Thanks, I guess that's okay. West Forsyth should boost East Forsyth RPI.

According to this bracket, The Metro is getting 7 teams in and the CPC 5. Riddle me how the CPC is the best conference in the State? lol

It doesn't really matter how teams are seeded anymore. This is why the playoffs have become so predictable. I'm sure many more think this than say it. The transfer portal teams will always be there in the end. It's rigged that way now. Maybe not rigged, but the non-transfer portal teams really don't have much of a shot. So no matter how these teams are seeded (it truly doesn't matter), the transfer portal teams will be there in the end. Scratch out everyone else except Hough, Grimsley and Weddington.

Hough would beat every team in the CPC.
Agreed. The way I see it, weddington and grimsley are the only teams that will match up with Hough. Mrhonda is right. These playoffs will come down to the transfer portal teams once again.

That's a joke! Hough.. lol...That Conference is so weak that GLENN 0-7 in the CPC just beatdown playoff bound Chambers by 3 TDs. GTFO

I'll take the top 3 in the CPC conference to slap around Hough...Give me East Forsyth, Mt Tabor and West Forsyth but I'm bias just like you...Carry On

After last nights close loss to SE Guilford, Page sits at 3-7. While it was decent showings in tough losses in close games with Northern Guilford and SE Guilford, I think it would be a good lesson to learn for the young players and coaches if Page didn't make the playoffs this year. Let this create a chip on the shoulder for next year. Finishing 5th in the conference, just isn't good enough to make the playoffs. Even if we sit at 24th in the RPI. Very young core on the varsity team, and a very talented JV team and feeder middle school. Time to start lifting weights on Monday, and get ready for next year!

Look at some successful programs that have gone through similar struggles; they often use those tough seasons as a springboard for future success. For example, teams that focus on building a solid foundation through hard work and discipline, like lifting weights and refining skills, often see a significant turnaround in subsequent seasons. Having a talented JV team and a robust feeder program is a great sign for the future, as these players will be ready to step up and contribute when the time comes.

I believe Asheville High could get to the 3rd round in that scenario of a Playoff bracket in the West!!!

Here's week 11 Projection going in to tonight's final 4A West Games

1 Grimsley
32 Ardrey Kell

16 TC Roberson
17 Reagan

8 Charlotte Catholic
25 Porter Ridge

9 Palisades
24 Page

4 Watauga
29 Butler

13 West Forsyth

14 Mallard Creek

11 NW Guilford
22 Independence

6 Mooresville
29 South Iredell

7 Asheville
26 Marvin Ridge

10 Northern Guilford
23 West Cabarrus

15 Sun Valley
18 Southeast Guilford

2 Weddington
31 AL Brown

*Alexander Central is out because they can't leap frog South Caldwell. If Alexander Central wins tonight and Watauga defeats South Caldwell, then Alexander Central would be in and that would bump Ardrey Kell out.

*The winner of the Asheville/TC Roberson game will be the 7 seed

How could Northwest Guilford be an eleven seed and Charlotte Independence seeded twenty second ? Thanks in advance.
Apparently the seeding is not based on a teams W/L record, but on the W/L records of the teams they played.

That seems a little too subjective to me. (Maybe I should say too objective, who knows?) Under this system you can come very near to going undefeated, lose one game by a very close margin, and barely make the playoffs. I know computers can be filled with information and split hairs, but they may not consider common sense. Artificial intelligence is on the way, but it may not be here yet. Apparently it's better to play a good team and lose than play a weaker team and win.

This approach can indeed feel overly convoluted and at times unfair. The idea that a team could have a stellar record, maybe even go nearly undefeated, only to be penalized for the strength of their schedule doesn’t seem right. It raises questions about the value of winning versus simply playing against tough opponents.

I mean, consider a team that plays in a weaker conference and finishes the season 12-0, while another team in a stronger conference goes 9-3. If the undefeated team faces lower-tier opponents consistently, they might find themselves at a disadvantage when it comes to seeding. This can lead to a scenario where the team with a better record and potentially more momentum gets overlooked in favor of a team that lost more games but played tougher competition.

This system can also disincentivize teams from scheduling games against weaker opponents, as any wins may not carry the same weight. In sports, we often celebrate the spirit of competition, and it seems counterintuitive to reward losses over wins based on external factors.
