2A West Discussion Board - 2nd Round

8 Salisbury (6-6) @ 1 CD Owen (11-0)
5 North Rowan (10-2) @ 4 Mount Pleasant (10-2)
6 Carver (9-2) @ 3 Shelby (10-2)
7 Polk County (9-3) @ 2 Reidsville (10-2)
 
There are 3 really good match-ups in the 2nd round. There will be lots of speed and athleticism on the field when Carver and Shelby meet.

Although, after what Shelby did to this bracket last year, its hard for me to imagine any of the teams in the West really challenging them.
 
Not discounting this weeks games but I look forward to a possible Reidsville vs Shelby game. NC Preps 2A will get a lot of action between two historical powers who hold very little back on a message board. I predict victories for both.
 
Polk stunned Reidsville with a 13-0 early lead last year before the Rams battled back to lead 27-13. Then Polk scored again to make it 27-19 and took the ball to the Reidsville 1 before a goal-line stand got Reidsville off the hook.
With so many players back from that Reidsville team, doubt they have to be reminded to focus on the task at hand.

Polk has a great talent in junior QB Wheeler ... a lefty like former Reidsville QB RamBBQ but just a bit quicker.
 
Let's go Jackets!!! People killing me with the Reidsville vs Shelby stuff, kinda premature. Carver is one of the best football programs around as well, we've been flying under the radar all year. Hopefully after Friday we make a big bleep.

Jopastillmyhero.Most Shelby fans know Carver will be a test...and In football anything can happen....
But Carver will face a Defense like it. hasnt seen before...fast...big..and fly to the ball....
Our offense not as good Imo.as last years, but can have quick strike plays..also Chad Reid is a bruising back that can bust play..
any doubt? Go watch game flim.....win or lose Carver will have there hands full..To me.....at this point of year Shelby can only beat Shelby

Yawn... You guys just did beat a bad Lexington team, 23-21. This game will go one of two ways in my opinion. It could be competitive and you lose, or you could get blown of the field. Get at us after Friday as well.

Looking at Carver's schedule they allowed themselves to be in some very competitive games against some bad, suspect teams teams. Surry Central and Lexington comes to mind.

Carver looks like the type of team that plays to their competitions level. One thing I'm sure of is Carver has the athleticism to match up with Shelby however there are many more variables beyond that. I think it could be a competitive game giving the right circumstances. Carver is moving in the right direction and will be elite again in the near future...too much talent not too. If I were a betting man I would pick Shelby 34-16. Close 1st half and Shelby pulls away in the 2nd half.
 
Here's a clip of Carver's win over West Stokes on October 31st. It's only a minute long and you can't tell much from it but it looks like someone has been working with the quarterback on his form.I thought he looked pretty good completing the pass it shows...By the way, it may take the video several seconds to download.

Yall get out of here with that Carver hasn't seen this or that. Yes we've seen it. Dudley one of the top 5 teams in the state regardless of class, Mt. Tabor who probably would beat Shelby. Our starting qb was out most of the first half of the season with those questionable games. Carver does play to their comp sometimes, it happens. That might not be a good thing if they play "up" to Shelby 's level.

We also can look at the Shelby schedule with Chase out in front 10 to 0,21 to 20 in the RS game and losing to South Point.
 
Shelby sucks at wrestling. Can't get help from a cuzin. Better keep playing football.

You're sure about that? Let me get Lance Ware on the phone who functions as the athletic director as well. I'm not bragging, but we have won state titles in seemingly everything... soccer, tennis, swimming, and we have a basketball state title as well, and I think at least one in track. Can't imagine us sucking at anything.
 
Lion we were talking wrestling. Have seen them for many years. Not even in top 200 in North Carolina in wins in three years. Bottom feeder in 2A for sure. 2-23 and 6-20 is not good. Fast kids yes. Fight like girls. Make that call to Ware.

You got pinned by a wrestler from Shelby when you were in high school though.
 
We started the season very slow, too slow for many of the Carver faithful. And we do feel that we are a year away, but these young kids have progressed better than I expected. We are playing our best football now and with that said it still doesn't mean we are winning tomorrow. I've spoken to a couple of the coaches and they are confident(as they should be). Then I spoke to an assistant that I know who will keep it real with me. He told me that Shelby is scary good and they are fast. The defense is real good and very fast and he hopes our kids(lineman) adjust to the speed of the game quickly. We must avoid the early onslaught and if we can get settled into the game we will be fine. He also seems to think that Shelby will come after us with their aggressive defense and we must make them pay with big plays. He doesn't envision us driving on Shelby with any amount of consistency but if we can get a couple of kids in space we can hit them with big plays. So in his honest assessment he thinks that we must make big plays and avoid giving up the big play. I said do we have a shot and he said, "C'mon we are Carver, we definitely have a shot". So with the info I've been able to gather, we wouldn't win a series but all we have to do is win one.
 
There are many teams that will have a say before its over. Not gonna give Shelby the title. They are gonna have to earn it.

How in the world did a weak Hendersonville team score 54 points on you guys? Smh. Counting on North Rowan to "upset" you guys next week. That would be sweet.
 
How did south point beat you? How did RS Central and East Rutherford play with you? You can compare scores all you want but Polk beat everyone in the WHC worse than we did then we beat them 35-0 so it really don't matter. You gonna have to come to Black Mountain so get over it.

We beat East Rutherford 64-10. Smh. Hopefully, the refs stay out of the game and North Rowan beats you next week. You're already down a touchdown before you even get off the bus playing mountain teams at their place.
 
A highly overrated Mt. Pleasant team was down 19-7 to East Rutherford for 3 quarters, before storming back and stealing the game, 20-19. Salisbury, traditionally very good, is simply not good this year, so I definitely see an Owen vs NR matchup next week.
 
The Mount Pleasant North Rowan game honestly seems like a tossup. I'd take North based on their playoff experience last year.
 
We don't have to scare you we just gotta beat you. We ain't afraid of Shelby either but you Cleveland county boys think everyone should fear Crest and Shelby. Respect but not fear. All yalls fans have done is brag brag brag. Pride comes before a fall.

Shelby will destroy Owen if it happens. They will turn your field into their field and laugh at you while they're doing it. I applaud your effort here, but your team simply isn't good enough, and I've never saw them play. Speed will overwhelm you. Mountain football sucks.Unless you're ACR or Asheville, and sometimes ERWIN.
 
Owen Shelby game in the late 90's when Shelby had the QB that went on to play professional baseball was a good one.
