Looking at the 1A state of things based on my best estimate of who has or may field a football team. I counted 20 1A football schools and 8 of those that have a wrestling program including charters. I can see a 1A football playoff but they may not have to split it East/West? As for wrestling, looks like it will have to be a split 1A/2A dual team, regionals and states. I counted a total of 25 wrestling schools between 1A/2A. This past season we had two regions in 1A with about 22 schools on each side. Will be interesting to see how they handle these playoffs and state level events this coming season. I assume basketball will not be as big of a deal as all those charters typically have teams. More split leagues in the 3/4/5A' than I thought they would have.

So what conference will Thomas Jefferson be in? As an Alleghany fan glad we went back to first draft. Much rather play ashe and Wilkes schools and have a chance instead of getting blown out by mt airy East surry and West stokes
It's funny that you worded it like that. It was entertaining listening to people go on the livestream and talk about travel, class time missed, etc. when what they really wanted was to create conferences that give them the best chance to win/compete in. Most of the schools they didn't want in their conference for "travel" reasons are schools they will play non-conference - one school even said as much lol.

Some schools should be careful what they wish for! It appears that every time ES and MA ended up in a conference all of the others complained. It seems they are looking out for wins and losses, not travel. Elkin and Starmount would rather drive to Ashe County than MA. Give me a break.

If we could trade starmount for forbush then conference would be perfect. Starmount has this conference won easily the next four years

Starmount would be a good game for MA and ES non conference. Who if anyone will be the next best team behind SM in that new league?

Starmount was ok with either league proposal and had already penciled in MA and ES as football opponent after draft 1 came out.

Draft 2 came out and had penciled in some good out of the area teams to play. Murphy was one that was penciled.

I can’t speak for the other schools but Starmount plays MA and ES consistently except the last 3 seasons with ES (former coach’s decision).

Thomasville used to have some good games with Starmount back some seasons ago. It was a good game for both of them non-conference.

You could have been in the conference with Mount Airy & East Surry if not for the change this week by the NCHSAA. So you have a chance now of coming in 2nd instead of 3rd or lower in the original 3rd draft. Smile and be happy about the change. 😉 😉

This was the 2nd draft
(3A) Surry Central
(3A) West Wilkes
(3A) North Wilkes
(4A) Forbush
(4A) Wilkes Central
(4A) West Stokes
(4A) North Surry
Exactly, the teams from Wilkes County did not want to be with West Stokes. They would rather have smaller schools, except for Ashe as opposed to the Surry and Stokes teams. It is all about opportunities for wins. Distance is not the issue. WS to WW 1:21 SM to Ashe 1:10 Wilkes County just wanted to not be with Stokes and Surry, bottom line. Starmount will go wherever. They were not the ones raising a hissy fit.

I liked the 1st draft which is what the NWC is back to now with one change, Forbush replaced Walkertown.
Walkertown would have been a better game but I take it this way or that.

Just looking forward to the nonconference games being named !
