The regular season is over and some teams had wild rides to its finish. Even those with guaranteed slots lost games they were expected to win. After figuring out the top 3 seeds from each 3A conference, the 2 autobids from split conferences, and any others who can report 6+ wins, 55 spots were taken.

The number of teams with 5-5 playoff records total 10 which means eight will go on and the remaining two will hit the hardwoods. Below are those teams, along with their record and conference winning percentage (from highest to lowest).

Team O/A P/O C/R CW%
Forestview 5-6 5-5 4-3 57%
SW Randolph 5-6 5-5 3-3 50%
Hibriten 6-5 5-5 3-4 43%
St Stephens 6-5 5-5 3-4 43%
Cuthbertson 5-6 5-5 2-3 40%
Sun Valley 5-6 5-5 2-3 40%
Williams 5-6 5-5 3-5 38%
Eastern Guilford 5-6 5-5 3-5 38%

Northern Vance 5-6 5-5 2-4 33%
Swansboro 5-6 5-5 2-4 33%

The first eight (in blue) should be in; this leaves out Northern Vance and Swansboro Swansboro has to be considered the biggest loser as they were virtually guaranteed a slot had they won over West Carteret (then 3-7). Among the other teams which were projected to be in but didn't make it: Cedar Ridge, Rockingham County, Westover (all three ended the season 4-7).

Here is my breakdown of who is in, broken down by largest to smallest and east and west. Sorry, I don't do brackets.

Great work Sasha. Seeing EG and SP as two of the smallest 3A schools further frustrates Gaston County decision on placement of Cramer.

Wow sasha, how long did putting that together take? Nicely done!

If you include all the hours entering in ADMs, checking schedlule records, entering data and tracking results for the last three weeks, about 40 hours. However, the last bit took about 4 hours. It might have been less, if I weren't a perfectionist.

And all that to spite a South Point education? Impressive.

It should make us all appreciate people like Brian Simmons who keep track of all the information, calculate team rankings, make predictions, and try to figure out what the brackets will look like. The chaos in the standings with the Big South that we have seen the last three weeks has been mirrored in at least a half dozen of 3A and 2A conferences.

Yes, an under the table decision by corrupt politicians and school board members. Bailed out a land developer who had declared bankruptcy and voila, now he is a millionaire. How convenient. The net result: spending millions of tax dollars on a new high school the county didn't need and as a bonus, locating it in an area where it was the least needed of all. Good old GovCo.
