What's your thought on number of playoff teams

Too many classifications, too many playoff teams.
Five or six classes of 32 teams would be perfect.
About 390 schools have football programs. Five classes of 32 would be 160 qualifiers. That is over 40% of the schools in the playoffs. More than enough!

The number sounds to be about right to me. 6 games to Championship for 1 through 7A, if it is 1 st round some byes to get to the proper number of teams remaining at 32.

With regards to 1A I think 16 is enough since you only have a handful of teams some of which as mentioned earlier are Charters and aren't playing Football. 16 to me is enough

The state had already said 1A and 2a would be combined. Will be combined for wrestling as well. In any sport if less than 50% offer it they get combined with the next higher class.

Can't say I agree with that, but oh well!! Less surprising when your dealing with a bunch of clowns which is what the NCHSAA is!!!

SMC is not going to like it if they are combined. Robbinsville counting on being state champions for the next 4 years. lol. just kidding, someone else had posted that Robbinsville had it wrapped up for a while.

They will have to beat teams like Starmount to get out of the west. I think Starmount may be the 2A team to beat this year.
I had Murphy as my favorite but Starmount coming out the West wouldn't shock me at all. East Wilkes will be tough to. If 1a and 2a merge together robbinsvillie would be a contender no doubt. But team to beat overall? Idk about that

In the SMC Murphy will be a contender, but Robbinsville will be the team to beat!! I personally don't like the idea of combining 1A/2A but it is what is if thats the direction it goes!!

Gotta disagree on part of this one. Murphy should be absolutely loaded this season. Not sure there will be a glaring weakness anywhere. Sure Robbinsville “could” beat Murphy, but going into the season Murphy should IMO be the odds on favorite to win SMC and make a deep run in the 2a playoffs.

Is it a fact that 1a and 2a will be combined in the playoffs? So outside of MA, MH, ER, and a small handful of others moving up to 3a, the 1a/2a playoffs will be basically the same as the 1a playoffs of the last four years?

I think Murphy is one of the teams to beat as well, and yes it's a game that could go either way, but respectively I got Robbinsville but it's a close!!!

Guess they had to do it with the number of teams but not sure I like the idea of a split playoff but it is what is I guess as I mentioned earlier

You could be right. Both teams should be very good. I wonder if Robbinsville will drop off any since Walsh left, but I’ve heard really good things about their new coach too. He played there and has coached there for years, so they probably won’t drop off any. But you never really know until some games are played.

Yeah I was hoping 1a and 2a would both have their own playoffs. Would like to see some new challenges was hoping the SMC could have two state champs, like what happened in 2011 in 1a/1aa.

Agree 💯 percent

I think Starmount is the team to beat in 1a/2a West this year....As always Tarboro sleep walks to title game in the east
As always taking shots at the Vikings. But you don't hate Tarboro supposedly right? Yeah ok🤣. BTW Edenton is in 2a this year but I'm sure you ignored that. Six of the last 8 years Surry county schools sleepwalked to the title game so what does that say about the West? Funny how you refuse to discuss that part🤣

Sleepwalking meant they are a million times better than anyone in the east like always....that's the truth right?...don't know how that's taking shots
