What, if anything, did we learn in 1st round ?

Not sure we learned much. However, Mt Airy played as if their life depended on the game. Played nearly a perfect game.
Pretty efficient. Touched the ball 5 times-4 tds. Still need to clean up a couple penalties. Glad to see the coach having some one on one conversation with some players. Saw at least 7 backs run the ball with success.

South Stanley stood up pretty well in their win over Avery. They come to Starmount next Friday and while fully expect Starmount to win, it could be interesting.
Corvian and Mitchell will say more about Corvian's ability to play against a team that has a pulse, assuming Mitchell shows up to play mountain football.
And Bessemer City against Robbinsville could be the game of the West this week.

Reactions: Old Mountaineer
Folks, I am not still trying to be that guy, but the Mitchell game will not be that close. This is not the typical Mitchell team. Love the guys but they there is just some things missing. I hate to be critical of teenagers and will continue to support them till the end. I hope that Mitchell will show up and play with a little more heart. Way too many times the effort seems lacking. Wanting to arm tackle instead of hitting someone. The last 3 weeks have not been pretty. I know some are still dealing with Helene issues but something is missing.
If this game is close it says more about Covarin than the Mountaineers..
Having said that I hope Mitchell stomps a mud hole in them. (Without injuries of course).

Go Mountaineers

I really do hope they have safe travels…
Hard for people when they see the metropolis that is Ramseur, NC for the first time…
Sometimes those street lights can be intimidating, not to mention the topography. Flatland combined with the breeze coming off the ocean is hard to process for some…
Very easy to get disoriented in a big city

And a big pointer running across the road. Don't get distracted somebody might be following him

If the Mitchell team I saw Friday night in the first half while they might not win but it would be a game. Not sure what happened in the second half maybe Mitchell thought it was already won but also Draughn came out looking like a different team because in the first half I kept wondering how in the world did this team beat Avery 37-0.
Not sure what Covarin has, ether they're a good team but playing a weak schedule or the 10-0 in the regular season is simply a really good team playing a weak schedule seeing because they did put up some big numbers.
Mitchell needs to stop with the bomb passes the QB is much more accurate in the short and medium passes seeing they have some fast receivers who just need to get the ball in the open , plus sometimes with the longer passes it not as much as accuracy as bad decisions to many times throwing it with the receiver is in double coverage .

South Stanley is located just outside Norwood, which sits just off Lake Tillery. Some consider it a southern suburb of Albemarle.
MA played their in 2006 on way to the west Finals at Thomasville. Played again in 2008 at MA won both. 2006 as a 6 seed. The Coach for S Stanley played in 2008.

That’s what’s supposed to happen when playing a team you’re far superior than also
Actually, the score was a side point. What I looked at, and was attempting to evaluate, was the actual play of Mt Airy, its execution, its players staying in their assigned lanes, etc.

One thing that Thomas Jefferson figured out was how to stop Mt Airy RBs from scoring every time they touched the ball: grab a face mask.
I am not saying this in an uncomplimentary way. They were able to tackle the runner, and trade a touchdown for a 15 yard penalty.

It was the only play they had and it worked pretty good.
