We already see the message boards flowing with some of these games. But check out the four games that have Deana intrigued for the 1A Division this week.

But we also want to hear your thoughts on other games around the state involving 1A teams, as we know there are several other big games out there.

Let's hear your thoughts!

Swain hosting Smoky mountain, two long time rivals going at again!! This one should be a dandy, the mustangs are on the verge of Turing things around & just one big game away from becoming a super power in the 2A ranks again, the Maroon Devils will have to play mistake free football if they hope to stay in the game with the Mustangs! Could just be the top game in the state this week!!

Here is a link to last week's game between Charlotte Country Day and Myers Park... MP won 19-14, granted, MP is a 4AA school and CCD (the high school part of it) probably has 1AA numbers. Seems like CCD always plays hard but so do the Knights.

smokey a super power is a joke right...... 2a is a whole different world than the small 1a or big 1a teams you are playing...... smokey will not ever be a power with the shelbys reidsvilles and lincolntons of the world there.

I wouldn't put anything past them. All they need is a good coach ('scuse me, a *great* coach... don't want to disrespect anybody, but great coaches, like great anything, are few and far between... oh, and maybe some community support) to be fearsome. Sylva-Webster, which is most of Smoky Mountain, ruled 2A back in the 70s when Babe Howell was there. They had three championships and would have had 5 or 6 if they hadn't played up in 3A for a few years in the middle of the decade.

Oh, and they'd probably need to rejoin the SMC, which they belonged to while they were 2A's daddy. :)

Don't know how else to say this, but in the days before they became known as Smoky Mountain, they were that Power that Shelby, Reidsville and Lincolnton wished to be.... Just saying.

Without being there to see how the game unfolded I think perhaps it speaks to both teams. First games are usually a little iffy. My thoughts are perhaps Robbinsville came in trying to find their new identity, not with style but with personnel changes. Smokey came in pumped up and excited and ready for a fresh start. You mix the high of emotion and a new crew in the skills department you get a potentially close game which we saw. I look for the game tonight tonight with the Maroon Machine to be a good one. I do think that if Swain plays mistake free we will win going away. If not...could be very close and/or go the other way for the Mustangs.

I'm pretty sure they were good but I will say they will never be Shelbys daddy or Shelby has a tradition unlike any in NC. but to say one big win will turn Smokey into a superpower is nuts. Just saying. They had a nice run in a few year span. Shelby and those guys have done it over 50 years

Oh, nothing like that. Even if Smoky beats Swain tonight, which I don't think will happen, that won't turn them into world-beaters.

Sylva-Webster vs. Shelby in, say, 1976... now that would have been a game worth watching. But it didn't happen because Shelby was in the WNCHSAA in those days...

If they win at Swain tonight, it wont turn Smoky into world beaters. I'm saying that if they ever get some momentum this season, the next few years may be promising. We never know. Smoky has a lot of seniors this year. So could also go back to the Smoky from the past 5 years if they aren't careful

Your right BK. You can never compare scores from one game to the next. Every game is different.

Rabun scored 39 on us last year in the first game. Murphy only scored 34 on us in two games. Was Rabun better than Murphy,? No. Hayesville scored the second most on us last year and that was 23. I just dont see Smoky hanging around with Robbinsville if this game was week 4 through 11.
