Week 2 : Crest @ Burns

Burns doesn't have 8 WRs like Crest, but we do have 3 really good ones (2, 17, 19) and maybe the best QB in the county and two well above average RBs (3 & 4). Honestly Burns offense if just as good as they were last year, that was never gonna be the issue. The 8 new starters on D that haven't been tested yet is the concern.

Burns will be a tough test for the Chargers. Ben Mauney is the real deal, but so is Tater Huskey & Co.. Crest best come to play and leave that hooray we beat Gaffney mentality in Boiling Springs. Burns was the best team at the Clev Co Jam. That was then and it’s two weeks later. Mauney and that little RB#3 will be hard to stop. That other little RB/LB that’s built like a German tank is a load on both sides of the ball. Both Burns lines have good size and quickness. I’d bet Burns tries to lean on the Crest DL more than Gaffney did and use PA. Mauney can run and is a very smart gamer. Don’t sleep on Mauney. There’s a reason he was offered and committed to GWU. Depth might slow Burns down late, but this should be a shootout.

Tater is the equalizer and if Burns can’t get him on the ground Crest wins. They have so many play makers it’s not funny.

One or the other wins a close one.

Good luck to both teams having a safe and injury free night.

Graham Warlick had a great game vs FV. Is McGowan seeing time on offense? Looked like he played well on the defensive side of the ball. I know Burns has 3 guys they can put back there at RB but I think at the end of the day, Norris will need to be the guy that totes the mail.

Graham was my preseason pick to have a big year this year. He just didn't have that many opportunities last year, but he'll get plenty this year. McGowan is a grown man at LB, and yes played some TE against FV.

I said Mauney is probably the best QB in the county, by that I meant he has the best arm. Husky probably scrambles better. But in the article I read this morning it said Mauney runs a 4.5 40. I'm sure Husky is around that as well.

Two great quarterbacks. I don’t know who has the better arm. As great as Mauney is, I have never seen him go deep, push the ball down field. Last year it was just screen passes to Ryan Thompson who was deceptively strong as an ox, and would break tackles, and gain big yardage. Screen and intermediate passes is all I saw from Burns last season.

Huskey is by far the better scrambler, in my opinion. He’s elusive back in the pocket, and buys himself time. As a runner, period, he’s elusive, strong, and doesn’t shy away from contact at all. He’s tough as nails, a real warrior out there.

Mauney is clearly faster, in my opinion, but less elusive. He uses his speed to get as much yardage as possible, before getting out of bounce. He’s avoids contact like the plague, which is what you really want your quarterback to do. I have the quarterback battle equal. Mauney, the more efficient passer. Huskey, the better runner and improviser.

I can agree with that. Last week Mauney threw deep and dropped dimes. It was nice to see and something we all knew he could do. I know it was against Forestview but I am speaking on accuracy and arm strength alone. Last year, he just didn't have to. I think we see more of it this year as far as the deep pass but if the short slants and screens are open I say go with it.

.You know and we know Burns is going to run the ball to try and keep us off the field. I don't blame Burns one bit. The QB and the backs and the O-LINE look good.

I have no idea how the passing game is up that way. But I presume you don't want that kind of war. I just do not understand how Burns will cover everyone. But Devine is good.. real good..

It is what is.... Cleveland County Football is ruthless.
Should be a classic.....you are correct Devine is a great coach and it appears y'all made a fantastic hire .
