WC vs 71st 3a Title

May sound like sour grapes but I feel if QB and RB were at full strength WC would have held 71st well below their scoring average but 71st wins a close one like 28-24 or 21-17. The injury to Nance took out the most powerful weapon,Nance being able to pick up 15 to 20 yards on keepers repeatedly really opens up the 71st game. WC defense was stout however, would have still held down a healthy 71st offense down to below their normal output.

We need to acknowledge 71st and their defensive effort. Their defense kept them close and in the game. WC won, but there is no telling what the outcome could have been with a healthy QB and FB/LB for 71st. You can't mark those tangibles in the box score.

I may get some crap for this but this game makes me think there were a couple teams in 3a that were better than these two.
WC beat #3 Hickory by 16. Hickory beat Crest. They beat #5 Dudley by 26. Dudley beat JM Robinson They beat #1 Erwin by 58. 71st beat Jacksonville, who beat Havelock. So who are these teams, I like to know?

No offense and not taking anything away from Dub-C but we all know that Erwin was nowhere near being the top team in the 3A west. Impressive run regardless though.

lmao dumb ass take honestly 🤣 but ill leave it there
Im an eastern guy myself. I know you are a Havelock guy. So tell me who would have had a chance against the western powers other than 71st? 71st smashed everyone in the east with ease. They smashed Jacksonville. They would have easily beaten Havelock as well. I still go on record saying if healthy 71st would have won but I don't see anybody else from the east competing with Hickory, WC, Dudley. I remember Cape Fear winning the east and getting spanked by Dudley. The west is simply better at the top, much better.

There's a different style of play in the west. It starts with Pop Warner, goes on the 7 on 7 and to the high schools. The emphasis is not size over here. It's play fast, disrupt the line of scrimmage to change it, athleticism and play with no fear.

I've mentioned on here several times that these kids playing football aren't settling for Friday Night Lights to be a hometown football hero. They want to change theirs and their families lives by getting to the next level for a chance to get to the highest level of the sport.

Forgive my mistake about Cape Fear getting smashed by Dudley because both were small 4A at the time. But my point in general still stands. The last eastern team to win 3A was New Hanover in 2017 in 3AA. Before that you have to go back to 2015 Rocky Mount. Then before that you go back to 2013 when your Havelock and Southern Durham both won titles in 3A and 3AA. So that leaves a whole lot of times when the east has gone home with an L. It's more than a trend, it's pretty predictable if you are inclined to bet. 4A level has pretty similar results with the exception of the Wake Forest string of title wins. Im from the east but Im not blind to reality.

football is about match ups so again that was a dumbass take lol just because 71st match up well against jacksonville doesnt mean they match up well vs havelock just because jacksonville beat havelock when they have two different styles

same as just because wc beat hickory doesn’t mean dudely would have or wouldnt have

doesnt mean 71st would have lost to hickory or dudely same as jacksonville or havelock williams etc football is about styles 71st match up well against run teams havelock was a passing team which not saying 71st wouldnt have won thats why i dont like the whole west better than east off one game thats like saying every team plays the same

and its the same for east teams when they win thats like if u beat south point in states and trying say u would beat crest hickory dudely west charlotte when they all have different styles

if the top teams played each other every week in the west and east every single year they would all beat each other thats the point im making different styles make different games
I can buy that to a certain extent, reasonable take. You would certainly by math see more eastern teams wins in that scenario.

just saying we seen how close the game was with dudely and jm robinson jm robinson is not better than havelock jacksonville or williams if you have nfhs go watch all their games then go watch all the other 3 and tell me they were better please lmao dudely numbers look good cause they played nobody not saying they wasnt a good team but its easy to put up crazy stats when u haven't played no one all year when u got teams like 71st havelock Jacksonville williams all played 4a teams that are actually good like richmond, new bern etc etc

i honestly believe wc, hickory was the two best teams by far in the west then followed by crest and dudely then south point, jm robinson

the best teams in the east to me was 71st by far
havelock jacksonville williams capefear NN SN( had significant injuries on their teams)

and any of these teams would have competed with any of those teams in the west not saying they win but the games would be alot closer than u believe

How they manage to hold 71st down, even with them offensive issues, shows they been preppin’ and doin’ work right.

Congratulations West Charlotte on capping your season with a state championship. Well deserved! Also congratulations Seventy First on two back to back magnificent seasons that came up just a little short. Unfortunately there can be only one winner. These were definitely the best two teams in all of 3A ball and I would put both of these teams in the top ten of 4A ball also this season. Both of these teams are full of dawgs and as a football fan I just love these type of tough gritty games and players. I believe both programs will continue to be strong over the next several years. Congratulations!!
Top 10 in 4A? These two teams? Not even close
